Now I see why Beerus wasn't written to intervene. Merus was specifically written for this arc to give Goku his power-up and then be killed off, when this could've ended in a different, and better (in my opinion) way.

Well, I guess Merus was written to be the character that sacrifices himself/angel powers, instead of having Beerus intervene and destroying Moro for the threat he poses to his own Universe. It's nice to see someone to come to the rescue, for sure, but an Angel doing it before a God of Destruction ...

Universe 7 could be at risk for erasure because of this, and Beerus not intervening at all does not seem realistic to the situation.
