Kiyosu became a city in 2005 , before that it was the district or area of Nagoya where Toriyama lived.

In relation to what Toriyama has said in interviews he names Nagoya as his "hometown" here. The November 1996 issue of WIRED Japan also lists Nagoya as Toriyama's birthplace.

As far as I knew, biographies indicated that Akira Toriyama had been born in Nagoya, but after his death, many news reports indicated that his birthplace was Kiyosu, a city next to Nagoya, both in Aichi prefecture. In any case, the correct information is that in Chile the official transmission began with Dragon Ball in April 1997 ...
