As far as I knew, biographies indicated that Akira Toriyama had been born in Nagoya, but after his death, many news reports indicated that his birthplace was Kiyosu, a city next to Nagoya, both in Aichi prefecture. I know that Mr. Toriyama lived in Kiyosu, in fact his house and Bird Studio are there, but I still haven't found a reliable source that can corroborate one information or another.
Do somebody know some reliable sources/interviews?

I wonder if Toriyama ever wondered "An Irishman knowing where I was born on that NEWFANGLED INTERNET!?"
Apoligies if that term is a no no.

I often wonder how much of a shock it must have been for Toriyama that this series he originally thought was just going to be a silly little spoof of Journey to the West became such a global pop culture juggernaut.
At one point Bird Studio allowed requests for autographs (without illustrations) but eventually they stopped (likely because too many fans wanted it). I guess it didn't help that no one really understood Toriyama other than maybe his really close relatives.
The one time he went to New York attendees got the impression he was super tense and anxious. It's nice being told by people that they loved what you do, but even that doesn't always make someone feel comfortable (although obviously those giving the compliments mean well), but it says a lot about the person as Toriyama was incredibly humble for someone who became so successful.
If anyone really wants to learn about the legend himself I highly encourage you all to read the first book in Derek Padula's Dragon Ball Culture series. Don't think anyone could have written a better biography about the man.
