Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Just thought i'd chime in here with some news. Paul Dobson (Zarbon in FUNimation's 1996 dub) confirmed that production of the Canadian DBZ Kai dub is, in fact, going through Ocean Studios. He also went on to say that "there's been word of re-casting [and] there's been word of holding onto members of ...

Young Gohan: Saffron Henderson . Her voice was simply more natural in the role. Stephanie Nadolny's Gohan was far to raspy and deep for my liking. However, I do enjoy her performance in the Cell Games arc, when her deeper voice for the character works a little bit more to her advantage. Jillian ...

I'd love a faithful re-dub. The closest thing we got to one were Pioneer movies #1-3 -- quality acting by the Ocean cast, Japanese BGM intact, uncut, and good scripts. If FUNimation could apply these same fundamentals to the series, i'd thoroughly enjoy it. If Ocean's cast was onboard, that'd be ...

I've caught a few episodes of Blue Water dubbed GT. It retained the original JBGM and had pretty accurate scripts. These are its only merits.
The FUNi dub has the original music(now), and the scripts are a bit more accurate; the Blue Water dub had characters spouting off cheesy one-liners, in ...

Wow, everyone here gets on Funimations case for being a poor dub, but imagine what would of happened if Ocean and AB kept working with Dragonball.

They did, actually, though it was Blue Water instead of Ocean (though they are technically the same, except Ocean is BC while Blue Water is Alberta ...

I remember, especially in the Buu arc, loads of instances where they removed the word "death" or "kill" in the Ocean version. There was one scene at the top of Kami's Lookout, when Super Buu first arrives to fight Gotenks, Piccolo says to Buu in the FUNi version "...There's still plenty of people ...

Yeah, pretty close, I believe 1 metric ton is equal to around 2205 lbs.

And 60 kgs is around 130 lbs.

hyperventillating rant

He's a short and trim guy. The weight seems accurate to me.

I agree.

In base form, Vegeta isn't a character thats meant to have huge, bulging muscles. Instead, he has a toned trim build. You have to also factor in his height which is likely around 5' 3 to 5". Realize ...

Toriyama's original stlye (the rounded edge one) was his preffered style.

It was the producers of the anime who asked him to slightly change it, making the corners on the characters more sharp because it would be easier to draw and animate altogether....

Interesting, thanks for that insight ...

As far as I know, with DBZ Toriyama intended to make a series of Dragonball made for older audiences, hence the fact of drawing DBZ more different than the Dragonball series. And then, when the SSJ came the figures got more "pointier" to give a more sense of action into the battles.

Ah i see ...

Change in Art Style Throughout DBZ

I apologize if this has been discussed before, however, I searched for a similar topic and wasn't able to find it.

Throughout DBZ, the art style changed drastically from the Saiyan Saga compared to the Buu saga (as you all likely know). In the beginning, characters had rounder facial features and ...
