Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

SSJMan.

To get to the point of the conversation and their original question...

If you were authoring this set on 3 disks following spec, how would you author the disks differently than Funimation did?

I think that's all you would really need to answer to move forward from here.
And I did. But ...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

MANY THINGS!
All players can handle 4:3. Show me one player that cant take it.

But once again, you are missing the point.

I don't need to test a 1440x1080 4:3 BD in a single player.

Do you know why?

It isn't in the spec. If it isn't in the spec, you don't do it. Because you don't build in a ...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

No, it was how I would do it. Someone creating a blu ray disc may do 4:3 if they want. But for the most part its done with letterbox.

Sure someone could do it and throw it on the disk, but it wouldn't match the spec.

If it doesn't match the spec, it's worthless as far as being a commercially ...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

I don't think there was ever any doubt you could do 4:3 in an AVC stream. The problem is if it's valid to use that on a commercial Blu-ray -- last I heard, it's not.

Both dvd and BD may do 16:9 and 4:3.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

If you can remember I said that it was the last time I was going to talk about it. The bit rates were fine and allowed compression to go up to 40mb. As for 4:3 and AAC in bd. Its not standard for blu ray but Yes it can be used. I use it all the time. AAC is most commonly found in MPEG-2 Blu rays ...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

So many comments making my head spin.

I'll only comment on one at the moment...

The colours also make a difference. Also some blu-rays players upscale really well I agree you will never get proper HD but it close. A ps3 does not count as even that can technically be classed as outdated Blu-ray ...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

Since you haven't responded to Marc's latest post yet, SSJMan, I thought it might be helpful for everybody if you could explain how you would set up each of these three disks to make them work with the numbers you're suggesting. Leaving aside increasing the video bitrate by a third and adding an ...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

So, er, amongst all this technical jargon, I'm really loving it. I unforuntately don't have the Dragon Box to compare but the picture really is beautiful. Yeah, the lack of NEPs and Japanese title cards are disappointing, but considering I personally watch it in Marathon Mode when given the ...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

So now that we have graphical evidence about the bitrate, I hope this argument is over. People can draw their own conclusions from the images. (It looks like a ~23 average to me.)

I realize these video tangents are kind of relevant, but at the same time, people come to this thread for news and ...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

The data never really pasted correctly (not sure why, but it didn't for whatever reason) so I'll just use the graph he posted before to prove the point.

This is his graph from earlier, with a single pixel red line put on 30. It clearly isn't an average ...

Your right. Is possible that they did not put in the right settings. I dont think that is the case. But who knows maybe that is what happened. Are there any credits to show who worked the authoring of the Blu-Ray disc? Credits for Java menu, encoder, graphic artists etc?

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

When it comes to FPS yes. It would be off my a little because it only allows 2 numbers to show up, only the media player needs to know that. But if it where wrong about memory and space it tells you down to the dot how much. If the computer operating system does not know, than the computer does not ...

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray

If the Compressionist couldn't get an almost artifact free transparent encode with a peak bit rate of 29Mbits with h.264, I would question the competence of the Compressionist Funimation has on staff. I doubt a company like FUNimation would have a skilled dedicated Compressionist.
Its posable. But ...
