Didn't Toriyama himself say Krillin was the strongest?

Re: DB is not better than DBZ

Vegeta technically had to "cheat" by going Oozaru, but it counts. Wait, why is that cheating though? Its his own ability. It definitely isn't. Vegeta won that fight fair and square. Only villains Goku legetimitely beat by himself in DBZ are Nappa, Recoome, Burter, Freeza/King Cold and Yakon.

Re: Could have Dragon Ball survived in the English Speaking world without Cartoon Network?

Of the top of my head I can recall Mickey Mouses's Steamboat Willie, The Mad Doctor and Fantasia - all of which predate my existence by a long shot. Plus, Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny are still getting TV series. Micky Mouse is even a character on South Park.

Re: Could have Dragon Ball survived in the English Speaking world without Cartoon Network?

As ABED said, you can't compare a medium to fictional characters. A more apt comparison would just be Superman and Dragon Ball/Goku. Even in that one I'd say that, going by the past two decades so far I'd say Superman has way more product awareness in the US. Dragon Ball's had two new cartoons, one ...

Dunno if they can recapture the 80s feel of it. Soundtrack still incredible to this day.

Re: Could have Dragon Ball survived in the English Speaking world without Cartoon Network?

But anime almost always gets limited releases here in cinemas. Sure some films like Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Your Name get attention from film enthusiasts, but it's a pretty rare occasion. I doubt a lot of people would say Disney/superhero films are their favourites, but they get a ton more vie...

Whole lot of citation needed there.
YOU'RE the one who needs citations when you argue "anime wasn't mainstream until Toonami," an objectively false statement that MULTIPLE people have told you is false.
Show me where in the thread I said Toonami made anime mainstream.

Re: Could have Dragon Ball survived in the English Speaking world without Cartoon Network?

Animes always had a limited audience in the Anglosphere, before and after DBZ. I mean by that metric, even Game of Thrones was a niche show. It's true that there are many more cultural niches nowadays, but something being in the mainstream doesn't mean literally every person in the USA was aware of...

To answer the OPs question, I think so. After all Kai was completely fine on Nicktoons.

Re: Is InuYasha A Shojo Dragon Ball?

Inuyasha actually feels like an alternate universe Dragon Ball had Dragon Ball stuck to the beats of the original arc. Girl meets powerful guy, their group gets bigger as the story goes on and the the protagonists goal is to collect an item to get a wish.

One shotting Freeza wasnt too big of a deal since Goku would have just done it anyways.

That's true. Possibly count Goku beating Bebi Vegeta GT too. I prefer Buu arc Trunks; he actually has a a personality. Not only is Vegeta undefeated against Goku, but his son is undefeated against Goku's son. Future Trunks has a personality. It's just more reserved & different from main timeli...

Gohan. Spends the entire TV show being the only character to avoid death only for his death in the Buu arc to basically be a footnote.

I also agree this form was severely underused. Apart from his first appearance, all he did was blow some islands and get his ass kicked.
And sucessfully kill the main character off.

Wonder if Gaffer will mention Kaioshin being a 2P Future Trunks.

Mysterious character shows up, easily wins a fight with an established character, warns Goku of the villains and then does fuck all rest of the arc.

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 5/25/20!)

Problem with human characters there just too outclassed at this point to do anything significent in the film. Personally, I would have like to have seen a film with the human characters in the year before Nappa & Vegeta show up. As one who somehow finds little fun Mario Kart and much prefers Diddy K...
