One might ask why Piccolo and the others didn't disappear when the Saiyans killed them. Some dialogue from Yamcha seems to imply that they only got their bodies when they met Kami in the afterlife, so maybe their corpses disappeared (or rather, were transported to the afterlife) when that happened ...
