Re: I still don't get why FUNI never redubbed DBZ from start to finish

It was a given that it was limited. Why would a high priced set with different episode titles that defaults to a foreign language be anything other than a limited release? Not saying there isn't logic behind making it a limited release, but you'd think they would have said that from the get-go. Hec...

Re: I still don't get why FUNI never redubbed DBZ from start to finish

Was it really? That was my understanding going in - it was a limited release. FUNimation made no mention of that in their initial press release for them, though. Actually, their initial press release also mentioned that they had gotten the Dragon Box masters for the (DBZ) movies as well, and those ...

-The fact that FUNimation's Dragon Boxes for DBZ were only described as a limited-run DVD series after the fact. Was it really? That was my understanding going in - it was a limited release. Re: I still don't get why FUNI never redubbed DBZ from start to finish

It's mind blowing they wouldn't be able to fund a DBZ redub. And as said think of this long term. Dragonball Z is an evergreen series that sells forever. They would have a new dub for a new generation of fans and they could sell that for the next 20 years. Being able to afford it, as others mention...

Re: I still don't get why FUNI never redubbed DBZ from start to finish

I always see him complaining when he finishes voice work on a show and says, "I need a new job." Dragonball has given him a consistent source of income because he's always dubbing the videogames every year as well...so he's almost continuously voicing Goku outside the shows. Just because the income...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased

I noticed it said, "available subbed and dubbed in the United States and Canada ." I didn't realize FUNimation's streaming service is available in Canada and I wonder if that could explain any hangups or red tape? Potentially. The holdup that sticks out to me more, though, is that apparently--for r...

Re: Does English Dragon Ball need higher profile actors?

They definitely don't "need" higher-profile actors, no. They need actors who are good at their job--and thankfully, they have that. I'll also let you guys in on a...not a secret per say, but something that's not talked about super-often. Quite often, when a descision is made to hire a celebrity for ...

Re: Preserving the Nicktoons Airings of DB Material

Kai is definitely worse than DBZ overall, and I'll admit, I'd have no interest in Kai if it weren't for the dub. That said, the dub is pretty much the reason I watch Kai . I know it's not an English-language show in origin, but I mentally think of it that way because I'm primarily watching it for t...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased

From what i've gathered online Canada has less films and TV shows on Netflix then the US version does, but it does have some exclusive content that the US does not get. Yeah, every country has their own unique deals with Netflix over what shows/movies can and can't be streamed there. The first plac...

Re: Preserving the Nicktoons Airings of DB Material

This will sound oddly weird/specific, but there was one thing that the Nicktoons broadcast did as a result of a necessary edit that I actually really liked. For the episode where Freeza stabs Kuririn, they of course couldn't show the stab as graphically as the original Japanese version showed it. So...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased

I've-- briefly , I must emphasize--met Ian Corlett a few times. Like I said, the word "briefly" can't possibly be emphasized enough, he most definitely wouldn't know my name if it was mentioned. That said, we used to be repped by the same agency, and we crossed paths a few times in classes taught by...

Re: Humble Background

Protagonists certainly don't need to have a humble background, no. However, it is typically the easier choice from a writing standpoint to write them that way because they are more relatable and more set up for an arc showcasing their development and changes...both of which are generally regarded as...

Re: Bruce Faulconer - DRAGON AMNESTY Kickstarter Project

Eh, this isn't for me personally, but at the same time, I'm having a hard time knocking somebody for trying to find a way to make money during a time when so many aren't working (assuming of course that the way they're making money is legal and ethical, which it appears to be in this case). So, what...

...people apparently screaming softly or away from the mic or something, etc) This is correct. On a purely technical level, the German dub of Kai was mixed very poorly. It's not that the audio sounds muffled or unclear or anything like that, it sounds crystal-clear. The problem is that not nearly e...

Re: Dragon Ball Z Level Sets or Dragon Boxes?

The only way we'll get anything like it again is if Funi ever gets their head out of the sand and properly remasters the series again, which will likely never happen as evidenced by the 30th Anniversary Set. They made it loud and clear that they have a distinct vision on what they want the show to ...

Re: Dragon Ball Z Level Sets or Dragon Boxes?

Problem is, at the end of the day, Level Sets stil used 3rd rate master, i would love to see how it would look if original masters were used, sadly, knowing Toei, while not as bad as Funimation, they would just remaster it automatically and upscale it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jWfw-rrZrE Th...

Re: Dragon Ball Z Level Sets or Dragon Boxes?

On a purely visual/audio level, I prefer the Level Sets myself. I would argue that their colors seem both more natural and more akin to the colors of the original broadcast than the Dragon Boxes do. The Dragon Boxes--especially the older episodes--have a bit of a red tint to them as a result of the ...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased

I'm sure we'll see this get released eventually, there's no way they would spend all that money dubbing this just to sit on it forever. As much as I'd like to believe that, apparently it happens quite often. By the way, does anyone know if Peter Kelamis worked on this dub? We do know, and the answe...

I totally get the appeal there. The part of the Ocean dub of Kai that I was looking forward to the most was being able to watch episodes for which there is no Ocean/Westwood counterpart.

Re: The worst we could have gotten in the 90s

I'd say the Speedy dub was more like that as far as actors speaking language that isn't their first, because apparently it was done by people from off the streets in Malaysia or Singapore or wherever by Speedy Video who weren't too fluent in English or something because their accents are so off the...
