Re: How much dialog was actually changed from the Funimation original uncut Z dub and the orange brick “uncut redub”

I could certainly be wrong, and if anybody can point to a source for this comment of Schemmel's, I'm happy to listen to it. That said, this sounds to me like a story that got inadvertently changed as a result of being passed along verbally by a multitude of people. My guess is that he meant that he ...

Re: How much dialog was actually changed from the Funimation original uncut Z dub and the orange brick “uncut redub”

Unfortunately, I doubt there's a whole record of everything that was changed (outside of FUNimation itself, of course). Most of it was very small changes, but there were a lot of very small changes. For example, when Freeza confronts Moori (the first elder Namekian we see) over the location of his v...

Re: If a woman were to voice Goku in English, who should it be?

I must respectfully disagree. To qualify as prejudice, the reasoning those people are using would have to be something along the lines of, "A woman shouldn't voice Goku period," or, "An old woman shouldn't be allowed to voice Goku." Yes, that would be prejudiced against women, old people, and old w...

Re: If a woman were to voice Goku in English, who should it be?

When I hear Nozawa I don't hear a woman's voice. People who use the slight that Goku in Japanese sounds like an "old woman" are just being prejudice. I must respectfully disagree. To qualify as prejudice, the reasoning those people are using would have to be something along the lines of, "A woman s...

Re: If a woman were to voice Goku in English, who should it be?

Barbara Goodson. -She has some experience under her belt voicing Goku. -She can do several different boy voices, which would allow some differentiation between Goku, Gohan, and Goten. -She could sound relatively similar to Masako Nozawa. -She's great at screaming...Tony Oliver once told me at a dub...

Re: On the subject of missing insert songs in Funimation's dub

While bad audio/visual masters and a lack of care on the original animation company's part were often reasons for missing insert songs back in "the day," in this day and age, any modern anime made that doesn't have a song in a dub is a licensing issue 99% of the time. That's why, for example, "Fly M...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" dub seems to be coming...

Also, has there been any studies to prove this? I'm not familiar with Portuguese viewing habits, but I'm sure that there are plenty of Portuguese who like to enjoy foreign content such as anime dubbed just like English speakers. Again, it's not a replacement for the original version, but a suppleme...

Re: On the subject of missing insert songs in Funimation's dub

Another important part of the equation to keep in mind here is that Toei doesn't care about the show... that ...much. To elaborate, I certainly don't mean that Toei doesn't care about the quality of the show at all. Rather, I mean that they don't think of the show as being as important as people in ...

Re: On the subject of missing insert songs in Funimation's dub

No one knows for sure, but chances are it's either a money thing or a "the audio masters that Toei gave FUNimation just didn't have those songs on them"-thing. Neither would surprise me, but my inclination is that it's the latter. The reason I say that is because FUNimation's dub is not the only dub...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread

I know virtually nothing about video editing, so I offer my apologies in advance if this is a stupid question with an obvious answer. That said, how labor-intensive is it to dim and ghost footage as opposed to cutting down the frame rate? I'm essentially trying to understand if ghosting and dimming...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread

For what it's worth, I don't really agree with this assessment. Japan has to adhere to those standards too, and Fuji TV dealt with this like any other channel does: dimming and ghosting. It looks significantly better than absolutely gutting the frame rate down to single digits. Here's how Fuji hand...

Re: All voice actors of Goku and Vegeta around the world

German dub: Goku: Tommy Morgenstern (DBZ, DBGT), Amadeus Strobel (DBZ Kai), Stefan Bräuler (DB Super) Vegeta: Santiago Ziesmer (DBZ Saiyan Saga), Oliver Siebeck (DBZ, DBGT), Florian Hoffmann (DBZ Kai, DB Super) There's a slight note to be made here. While Tommy Morgenstern and Oliver Siebeck were b...

Re: A dub before Harmony Gold?

The real tragedy isn't that this might not exist, it's that if it does exist, there's no way it ever will be released. Funi just don't do releases of the sort that would have this, and no one else puts out their own, independent English releases of the show. Worse still, even if the masters still e...

Re: A dub before Harmony Gold?

Frontier's dub of Dragon Ball was never released, so it's probably lost to time. Toei also doesn't have a particularly good track record of preserving things. Exactly. Toei is unfortunately not even good at preserving the original Japanese broadcast audio of their own shows. What a pity...it would ...

I don't see why they would cancel the con just because of the Vic shit. That makes no sense.
Unless said Vic s*** involved threats of violence (not necessarily from Vic, but from other would-be con-goers). Sadly, I could see that being the case.

Re: Looks like Netflix picked up DBZ for the Netherlands (and other EU countries perhaps?)

Without knowing about the legal ramifications of this, I'd say it's possible--though not necessarily likely--that the dub audio track that appears on Netflix for the Netherlands (and possible other EU countries) may be a different dub entirely. Netflix has been known to commission new dubs of anime...

With respect, AgitoZ, it's not false. Unfortunately, it's here that things get a little tricky because, like you noted, people who take a stand one way or another seem to be subject to harassment, so that prevents me from naming names. However, as somebody who lives in Los Angeles, is quite familia...
