Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

One thing I like about this arc is that, in a way, Merus is the main character. He hasn't had the most page time, but I like the idea that Goku and Vegeta are intruding on his story. The arc has been about Merus' mission to recapture Moro. He was planning on doing it without Goku/Vegeta's help in th...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

Merus may just be my favorite thing about this arc. He's so cool. There have been intelligent characters in Dragon Ball, but none feel as smart and generally competent as he does. I like the dynamic of him having to work with a bunch of idiots who do what they want, like the Saiyans and Boo. I reall...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

I absolutely love everything that's going on with Boo. His buffoon-with-no-rules essence is perfectly preserved. I'm most looking forward to seeing what happens with the Dai Kaioshin.

Seriously, what was he doing for three days?
I really think he was learning how to sense the Dragon Balls. It takes him a moment to figure out where the one hidden in that village was, and it doesn't seem that he would've known how to sense them before arriving on New Namek.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

Every Toei movie is "Bad guy shows up, the heroes fight, there's some hijinks and gags, final fight" That's boring. That's the same formula here. I'd rather more chapters without fighting while both sides do other things, and that way the anticipation of when they come to blows will grow and grow u...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

Hell yeah, this is the chapter I've been waiting for. -I like how Moro continues to treat Cranberry. -Moro sensing the Dragon Balls is a great idea. Why the hell not? He's a mage, they're magic, and we know they they radiate energy. The way that information is revealed also leads me to believe that ...

According to a Bing translation of a French tweet translating Toyotaro's twitter post, tankobon 9 will have additional pages that Toyo didn't have time to include during serialization.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

It may be possible that my feelings on the current arc are largely affected by a lack of anime to temper my expectations. In the past, a significant portion of my enjoyment of Super was to see just how much less the manga was butchering things compared to the anime. Now, that sort of thing isn't inf...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

This reads like fanfiction. I agree with this sentiment overall, but I hesitate to describe it as "fanfiction". That term carries a lot of other baggage that I don't think fits here, but there does seem to be an outright refusal to step outside of the established sandbox...at the moment, anyway. Mo...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

I don't have too much to say about this chapter, really. I thought the action was nice to look at. I constantly found myself thinking "that would look cool in FighterZ". To be honest, I'm pretty burned out on Dragon Ball fights at the moment. I've watched Broly about 6 times now, and considering how...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

I picked 7 chapters that I remember having specific fights in them, and it turns out they all have establishing shots: Most of those aren't establishing shots. You're also misusing the term. An establishing shot is a technique (primarily associated with filmmaking) used at the start of a scene to e...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

Shaddy appears to have deleted his post, but in it he confirmed what I suspected. We're talking about he perception that Toyotaro does not draw "establishing shots", which is so blatantly false that I wish this wasn't necessary. For those of you who don't know, an establishing shot lays out the cha...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

If the desire is to actually get anywhere in this conversation, I think we need to get more specific. It's totally unproductive when this thread devolves into debating debate tactics. A lot of people have an abstract sense of what characters in Dragon Ball are supposed to be, but if we can provide s...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

That felt very out of character. Not Vegeta feeling responsibility and desire to protect the Namekians, but flat out saying it outright is what didn't sound natural or in-character. That felt like it was done solely as exposition to explain his state of mind (and I'd argue that there are better way...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

I have some concerns moving forward. I'm not sure about how much retread I can put up with at this point, and there are certainly familiar elements at play here. If Moro wishes for his youth back, I'll be disappointed. That being said, if he consumes planets and is able to restore his youth that way...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

I'm really liking Moro's personality. Despite the actions that Vegeta has taken against him, he has not come close to losing his cool. That's pretty unique. It's not. Goku Black and Hit never lost their composure in the anime. Anime Goku Black's response was too masochistic, which I did not enjoy. ...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread

Really? Villains in dragonball tend to start smug and break their calm facade when they start losing. Since Moro isn't losing yet, he still has his calm demeanor. Vegeta stole his first meal in millions of years, and he seemed to find it more amusing than anything. Vegeta kicked him in the face, an...
