Re: Does Dragon Ball as a Franchise goes in your right Direction ?

No. I don't mind the idea of new stories in Dragon Ball, but I feel the genuine sense of progression has been lost for the most part. It feels like everything has been stopped in its place. The lack of any significant psychical growth for Goten and Trunks epitomise this current stagnation in storyt...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

I like that Mike and the moderators can articulate a cogent response. Other fansites and facebook pages aren't quite as good. Even if I disagree, I can respect them.

Re: FYE Announces Dragon Ball Z Orange Brick "Collector's" Box Set

The Dragon Boxes weren't a mass release and the level sets were discontinued after only a few volumes. The Blu Rays are the only release you mentioned that got a full mass release.

Re: What happened to Oob?

DB wasn't anywhere near as popular worldwide as DBZ was. Regardless of what you think is better, audiences (especially western audiences) really dug DBZ's structure of having Goku frequently adopt a lesser role until he shows up to save the day. DB was popular BEFORE the Z was artificially added. A...

Re: What happened to Oob?

I can't because it doesn't work well. After a lengthy run with the same main character(s), to put someone else in the lead role is not a good idea. And no one here is saying the story should be ENTIRELY about Goku. It's his story, but damn near every story has multiple characters. Why are you and ot...

Re: What happened to Oob?

He's the main character and stories are about characters. DB is as much about Goku as 24 is about Jack Bauer. I have no clue what your point is about the Goku is a Saiyan plot twist. Goku being put out of action for a few episodes does not in any way shape or form make the story about someone else. ...

Re: What happened to Oob?

Dude...no character is bigger than story. Period. GT plain sucked cuz its pacing, plot right off the bat with Black Star DB hunt and its execution was flawed af, its character designs, jokes, were all plain bland and boring. Simple as that Imma Goku fan myself, and I can perfectly understand why du...

Re: What happened to Oob?

You say that as though other stories haven't successfully replaced the hero with a successor. The reason it wouldn't work for DB is simply because Goku himself is too popular, not because a story focusing on characters other than Goku wouldn't work. Yeah, it would have a different emotional core, a...

Re: Does Dragon Ball as a Franchise goes in your right Direction ?

I personally wish the fights became about skill again and less about raising your power to the maximum, which on paper makes no sense as in reality the world's strongest man would get killed in a fight by the UFC heavyweight champion. DB was never our world. How the fights go in DB make sense in it...

Re: Does Dragon Ball as a Franchise goes in your right Direction ?

I can't say that I agree with you, because you need to build a bits of a world to make your story believable. Bits being the important word. A story should feel like there's a world outside of the frame, but not so much that it's distracting to the story. Story comes first. Let's not let the tail w...

Re: Does Dragon Ball as a Franchise goes in your right Direction ?

No, nor do I think it's a good thing for fans to have a direction they want the story to go in. The only direction I would like to see it go in is towards a finale.

As for lore and world building, no, I don't have a direction on that as it's boring.

Re: Serious Dragon Ball Questions For Fans About The Voice of Goku

I've never seen anything from Kelamis about him having to imitate Corlette. I know Schemmel was instructed to sound like Corlette/Kelamis, but has also said he wanted to smooth the transition anyway. He said it bothered him as a kid whenever they changed Ronald McDonald's. It was around the time he ...

It's a bit of a tangent, but I like that the episode guide booklet in the season sets can be found in PDF form on funi's DB websites.

Re: Serious Dragon Ball Questions For Fans About The Voice of Goku

I know the in house cast was told to, but I don't hear that out of Kelamis. Corlette is much more subdued. If he was trying to sound like Corlette, he missed the mark by a mile. As bad as Sabat's Drummond impression was, I can hear that he was trying to sound like Drummond.

Re: Serious Dragon Ball Questions For Fans About The Voice of Goku

Fair enough. He's moderately better, but it's mostly because of the script. As to your point about sounding like Corlette, I don't see it, and I don't know what you mean by "I was speaking of his performance. Not specifically his vocal tone."

Re: Serious Dragon Ball Questions For Fans About The Voice of Goku

That's not enthusiasm, that's hacky over the top cartoonish voice acting. Why is he so enthusiastic? It's picking out a drink. It's over the top. He's practically at an 11 when the moment requires a 2. I really wish I could demonstrate why it's such a ridiculously bad performance. He's picking out ...

Capitalism was a mistake.
We don't have capitalism. We have a mixed economy.

More importantly, FYE is still around?
