Re: What are the chances of Freeza becoming a genuinely good guy?

None, nor should there be. He may respect the likes of Goku and Vegeta as warriors constantly striving to better themselves, but it will always be a means to an end, he will see them as potential henchmen at best. Also the trope of villains having a change of heart is overdone in Dragon Ball and it...

Re: The original DB Manga and anime adaptations don’t reflect their era much

The original Dragon Ball manga and anime would be considered politically incorrect today (atleast by Western standards). I'm sure this has been discussed to death, but the tasteless jokes/crass humor were common in shounen fare of the 1980's. A modern remake may tone down a lot or adapt things diff...

Re: GT continuation

I agree with Mike on this, but for what it's worth, GT's most notable antagonist, Baby, was a member of a race that was a creation of the anime and from what I can remember, the Tsufuruians were never mentioned in the manga.

Re: Most underwhelming character death in the franchise?

While I do think Piccolo's death was SO underwhelming, I didn't have any expectations. It's just an event that came and went like nothing. Baby's death on the otherhand did have expectations. The arc was building to that moment and it ended in a really pathetic way. "That's it!?" is not what you wan...

I get taking characters from boring movies in interesting situations would make them more interesting, but not the movies.

Re: Do you still enjoy non-canon Dragon Ball content?

How does anything subsequently done with those characters retroactively make the movies more interesting? You really love to keep going in cicles and asking people the same things, don't you? Alright, I'll keep copying and pasting the same answers, then: Because movies themselves aren't remarkable....

Re: Do you still enjoy non-canon Dragon Ball content?

It's not that "I wouldn't enjoy it", I would be mostly neutral. There's nothing really remarkable about the movies. So, like Dabura, one piece of information/lore made them interesting. In this case, the fact that the movies happen in an alternate dimension means we could see characters reacting to...

Re: Do you still enjoy non-canon Dragon Ball content?

Also, it's nonsense. You don't need to explicitly define what's canon. The original story is implicitly canon. And canon changes. I feel like some fans want canon to be this clearly defined set of events in the story and for it all to fit together like a puzzle.

Re: Do you still enjoy non-canon Dragon Ball content?

But in continuity is exactly what people mean when they are talking about Sherlock Holmes stories. Regardless, I agree that it's stupid. I don't know why anyone cares about this stuff and places more importance on it than a good story. thus making me enjoy them. So unless they were in some alternate...

Re: Do you still enjoy non-canon Dragon Ball content?

Canon changes. Why does it matter what anyone acknowledges?

Creators declaring things in or out of continuity is fine, but throwing around the word "canon" holds a different weight. Things can have a canon without sharing a narrative continuity.
In this context what does that mean?

I would like to hear from people in their own words, those who place importance on canon, why they care so much about it.

Re: Do you still enjoy non-canon Dragon Ball content?

It didn't try to be emotionally manipulative and give us the cliched bad childhood so we should feel sorry for Broly. In the original he was just a psychopath. He wasn't made one.

Re: What is the lamest thing to come out of modern DBZ?

The Zamasu arc didn't need fleshing out. It's a plot heavy complicated arc as is. It lasted as long as it needed. The problem wasn't the episode count.

Re: What is the lamest thing to come out of modern DBZ?

What are the episode numbers you're referring to? I want to go back to them so I can refresh my mind. If I'm not mistaking, episodes 64-67. Essentially everything after Vegeta's fight with Black. I'll raise you the wedding dress arc which was one of the worst batch of episodes the franchise has eve...

Re: What is the lamest thing to come out of modern DBZ?

I know this was like 4 years ago, but I can't blame people who dropped Super after the whole shit festival that was this arc finale. Those final 3-4 episodes are without a doubt among, if not the worst ever written episodes in the franchise. It doesn't help that the arc is stuck between 2 very unde...

Re: Minority representation for minority characters in Voice acting

If Uub becomes a big character again, he needs to be recasted. This valley boy voice does not work with him. And it's totally insulting to have a caucasian person play him. Valley boy? Because of Funimation's extremely small talent pool during Z and GT, many of the characters are voiced by locals i...

Re: Do you still enjoy non-canon Dragon Ball content?

The only reason I put any stock into "canon" is because whatever is currently canon is usually what's talked about. Otherwise, I couldn't and wouldn't care less, but it's just the way things go. I prefer to just view things on their own merits. In recent times, "canon" has been appropriated by the ...

Re: Most underwhelming character death in the franchise?

Baby. He enslaves and overpowers the most powerful characters in the franchise and his ending is trying to run away in a spaceship and gets blasted into the sun. It's an anticlimactic ending. instead of a cathartic one. Future 17 and 18's death felt cathartic. He doesn't waste time and it was nice s...

Re: Minority representation for minority characters in Voice acting

I think the people in charge need to take a step back and rethink their decision making process. On Fatman Beyond, Marc Bernardin brought up a statistic that the length of time between a female director's first and second film is three times as long as men's first and second movies. It's not because...
