Saiya and Saiyan?
I read the side story "High Pride! Saiya Prince Vegeta" and I noticed it was spelled as SAIYA and not Saiyan or Saiya-jin. Was it a early translation like "Gokou"?

Re: Saiya and Saiyan?
'Saiyan' is the romanization for 'Saiya-jin'. One who is from Saiya is Saiyan, as one who is from America is American.
I'm not entirely sure why they chose to use 'Saiya' in that instance, however.

What I don't get is that some dubs use Saiyan. Other dubs use Saiyajin. A few dubs use Saiya or Saiya people.JulieYBM wrote:'Saiyan' is the romanization for 'Saiya-jin'. One who is from Saiya is Saiyan, as one who is from America is American.

Re: Saiya and Saiyan?
The Japanese title says "Saiya no Ojii", which translates to "Prince of Saiya". The term "Saiya-jin" is written with the Katakana "Saiya" and the kanji "jin" (which literally means "person"). The term is literally translated to "Person of Saiya". They are referring to the Saiya-jin race, but they could have done it as "Saiya-jin no Ojii" or even "Vegeta-Wakusei-jin no Ojii".
So mondo lame.

Re: Saiya and Saiyan?
"Saiya" minus the "jin" is just a slightly alternate term for the race that's used sometimes. Besides the side-story title, it's used for the SF game "Super Saiya Densetsu", in GT on occasion, and some other random places.

I'm guessing that was a "Gokou" that got caught by the filter.
