What Japanese-only thing would you like to be brought state-side?
So recently i've been getting more into Dragon Ball's merchandise and behind the scenes type of stuff rather than the in-universe canon. So, I've been thinking of all the awesome things we will never see here. Personally, I would love a release of the Kikuchi soundtrack, and the three Dragon Boxes we will never get to see (probably). Those being the Dragon Box GT, DB Dragon Box, and the Movies. Lastly, a release of Ultimate Butouden would be amazing as it looks like such a fun game. What about you all?

Honestly, I just want all of the specials that haven't been given proper releases, such as Episode of Bardock, the 2007 special, and the RoF manga. Anything of that nature would be fantastic, I'm not much on collectible merchandise or anything like that.

The others Dragon Boxes, and the 2008 Special and Manga. I don't really care about Episode of Bardock or PtEtSS, since they were on the vjdeo Games.

Re: What Japanese-only thing would you like to be brought state-side?
The 2008 Jump Super Anime Tour Special is really the only item I feel needs some kind of release at this point. Episode of Bardock and Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans had pretty awful game-only releases, but the very fact that they got a contemporary release at all shows that there's potential for a better one down the road. It's the JSAT Special that needs some licensing love! It would be a shame for the actual piece of new animation that kick-started the resurgence to be relegated to an essentially-unreleased footnote in history.

Sadly, it was over a decade(!) ago, but I would have loved to have seen Super Dragon Ball Z in arcades outside of Japan. It would have been awesome to see Dragon Ball next to some of the other classic arcade cabinets.
Re: What Japanese-only thing would you like to be brought state-side?
Super Dragon Ball Heroes, or Ultimate Mission X. The fact that those games haven't been released in America yet is an enormous sin.

An uncensored kanzenban release (including Jaco amd Nekomajin), the rest of the Dragon Boxes (they could probably include the two TV Specials and Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans in the Movie Box), the 2008 OVA and its manga release, the various spinoff mangas, Dragon Ball Heroes...
More realistically, I'd love for us to get the rest of Full Color Manga (that means the Boyhood Arc too), and the Extended RoF cut (maybe make a limited edition that contains the introductory manga).

The Daizenshuu, a mainstream Dragon Box-esque release, All the animated shorts/OVAs; I have to say, as much as I don't care for (DB's) FUNi dubs, I can't help but feel they aren't giving it spotlight it deserves by letting it go sub-only.

-Dragon Ball's Dragon Box. Funi's complete series set of GT is good enough for me but I would like a better release for the first series.
-All of the bonus features on the Dragon Boxes including Z's.
-The original OVA version of Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans.
-The 2008 Jump Special.
-An uncensored release of the manga. (With a new translation while we're at it)

I have to ride with everyone else on this. We absolutely need a Dragon Box release like right now.

Do we really, though? I mean, it's a fine release, but it's dated to the point where a new transfer would be preferable no matter how you look at it, assuming one actually thinks another release is warranted.SupremeSSJ wrote:I have to ride with everyone else on this. Basically this, plus the other daizenshuu (or at this point, the chozenshuu) would be my main wants. Sure, Dragon Boxes for everything else would be nice too (not to mention maybe re-releasing the Z ones), but I've already got the shows via other releases, so at least I do have some form of them - it's stuff I don't have at all that I want more.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:Honestly, I just want all of the specials that haven't been given proper releases, such as Episode of Bardock, the 2007 special, and the RoF manga. Re: What Japanese-only thing would you like to be brought state-side?
For the manga...
For the anime...
- The Kanzenbans, uncensored. Preferably with a cleaned-up translation*
- The Daizenshuu and Chozenshuu books
- The boyhood/pre-Z material in full colour, and actually released on a reasonable time table
For the anime...
- The original series Dragon Box
- The 2008 special
- The Plan To Eradicate The Saiyans OVA (Preferably both versions, although I'd prefer the '93 version if we can only get one)
- All three series(Or at least the original) on Netflix, using the Dragon Box video masters (Yes, Japan has this)
- A re-release of the Dragon Box Z
- The GT master audio (Which is currently used in Japanese TV airings of GT)
- Dragon Ball Heroes/Super Dragon Ball Hereos
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.
Re: What Japanese-only thing would you like to be brought state-side?
What?? I don't think Netflix Japan has GT! And I wish Dragon Ball was on Netflix USA. Netflix Japan has the TV specials and some European countries have the Movies!Robo4900 wrote:For the manga...*No need to re-translate it, just clean up the naming conventions(I have no problem with things like Vegerot, but Hercule, Djinn Boo, and Light Of Death are pretty bad), fix up some of the other inconsistencies like Piccolo's weird speaking style in early Z, and base this all on the earlier, uncensored translations from the initial printings, with things like Raditz saying "Dammit!" instead of the "!!!" they changed it to for the censored reprints.

I'd just be cool with any OVA's or specials that never made it's way over here. Fireman special included just for shits and giggles.
But especially the 2008 special.

The kanzenban, with all art 100% intact and preferably with a new translation written by someone who isn't on trial for possession and distribution of child pornography.

Re: What Japanese-only thing would you like to be brought state-side?
I'd be good with the Jump special, Episode of Burdock, and Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans. I'm not saying this because they're fantastic pieces of work or anything, but just for a feeling of completion. Would a fully uncut DBZ manga be nice? Yes. Would the Daizenshuus be good? Oh hell yes. But I feel like you can get them (as I do) in their native language. These specials are pretty rare that unless you're getting bootlegs, you will have a hard time finding them. Yes, Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans is on one of the DBZ video games as a bonus (which I appreciate), and Episode of Burdock is on a video game that I'd never have because I never went to team green. But the Jump special is just lost out there. I have both the Jump special and Episode of Burdock bootlegs that have iffy subtitles, but at least I have something.
