Yamcha's son's name? need translation from Japanese
I've had this pic on my hard drive for years, and I believe Akira Toriyama drew it. It's a hypothetical "What if..?" regarding Yamcha and Bulma having a son. Can someone translate this? It'd be wonderful to know what he named him.
I don't really care who drew it, but if there's a name for their hypothetical son, I'd be interested in knowing it!

I don't see any mention about a name, but I can't read the little comment above the son character. Do you have a bigger scan?

I don't think that's an authentic Toriyama sketch. I think that's a sketch/blurb from a doujinshi done by artists Milk and Waya. They've done numerous Yamcha-centered doujins over the years and the art is always excellent. I own quite a few, though not that particular one that I recall.

Unfortunately that's the biggest I have Herms. If you use Firefox, you can press Ctrl + a few times to make the picture and text bigger though. Press Ctrl 0 to return to normal size.
Aremke, you could be right.
I had some fun with another DB fan friend of mine, and he decided that since Yamcha's name is based on Yumcha, which is apparently the act of drinking tea, that it would be fitting to name Yamcha's son after tea. And guess what? Bancha is a name of a green tea in Japan. The perfect befitting name for the son of Yamcha and Bulma.

Well, looking at it closer, it looks like it says "It looked hopeless, and sure enough it was". So it doesn't look like there's any name anywhere.

The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.
Thanks for translating and letting me know Herms, I appreciate it.Herms wrote:Well, looking at it closer, it looks like it says "It looked hopeless, and sure enough it was". So it doesn't look like there's any name anywhere.
If anyone happens to own whatever it is with this image in it, if you could post a better scan without watermarked URLs on it, that'd be great!

I've got plans to have a Yamcha/Bulma son in a fanfic. And to avoid confusion with Trunks, I named him Boxers.

<Xyex> Original Freeza never sounded like a chick to me.
<Kaboom> Neither does Rita
<Xyex> Good point.

Seeing as Trunks is named in the Bulma tradition and not the Vegeta tradition... why wouldn't a hypothetical replacement Yamucha/Bulma baby from the same time period just be called Trunks as well?

I kinda doubt that Vegeta was around when Trunks was born, let alone concerned about his name. Vegeta was all "KAKKAAROOOOOOTTO! SSJ WILL BE MIIIIINE!" at that point (well, that's an over simplification, but eh). There's a whole nine months (unless Saiyans screw around with gestation periods) between conception and birth... plenty of time for Vegeta to go train in space, or something.Sprite Satan wrote:Seeing as Trunks is named in the Bulma tradition and not the Vegeta tradition... why wouldn't a hypothetical replacement Yamucha/Bulma baby from the same time period just be called Trunks as well?
Yamcha, on the other hand... Well, I get the feeling Bulma would still be able to shoot down whatever she doesn't like. XD. So yeah... probably still Trunks.
I like Bancha, though.
