Why does noone use the nyoibo anymore?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Yeah, but you would think he would have given it to Gohan, like he did the 4 star dragonball. Gohan could have used it, or told Goten to find it for his training and used the pole during the great saiyaman saga.

I do remember there not being a pole in place between Kami and Korin's towers in the Saiyan arc.

I suppose it's the same reason why he never used the Kinto'un (typo?). It's a shame. Would have been awesome seeing him bash in Freeza with a stick :D
Rewatched pretty much everything from Gohan starting his training through to the beginning of Goku Vs Vegeteta... maybe I missed some things because of my eyes ... but I couldn't figure out where the sword came from (I buy the Piccolo gave it to him though) or where it went... because he didn't use it at all outside of his training...
Piccolo did his magic clothing technique and the sword came out of midair :D
I suppose those things have a time limit?

Eh? Goku used it in the early parts of Z, and once later on in the Freeza saga to go to Dr. Briefs house to pick up the spaceship. And later, Gohan used it to go to school.

Okay, I know the answers to these questions. I have Manga answers for those who want that only and Anime answers for those that want answers that include everything.

First on the matter of young Gohan's sword. Piccolo watched over him his first day in the wilderness. He dropped the apples off for Gohan the first night, remember? Then he says the boy will have to fend for himself. Gohan gets up to take a leak and sees the full moon. Piccolo quickly has an Oozaru problem on his hands. After blowing up the moon and subsequently ripping off Gohan's tail, he uses his power to materialize clothing (Sword included) for Gohan. Orange and blue colors like Goku, but with the Daimao logo on it. Piccolo then left for the far end of the wilderness to prepare himself for the saiyans and left Gohan to his own devices.

(Just a side note on this: Kami could re-materialize Goku's clothing at the end of DB, and Piccolo materializes an hourglass sand timer to try and stall Majin Buu later in the series. So everyone always complains about the Super Saiyan 4's materializing thier own pants and shoes upon transformation. We see Both halves of Piccolo able to do it in DB and Z, and we know the characters often learn each others techniques. I have never been surprised that Goku and Vegeta eventually were able to do as much for themselves. But that is a side issue altogether to be discussed elsewhere if waranted..)

Goku does indeed have the "Power Pole" with him at the 23rd Budokai, in the Anime and Manga both. In the Manga, that is the last time it is ever seen. All we can assume is he either returned it to Korin or it remains at his house somewhere in the Manga.

In the Anime, Goku has it with him when he and Chi-chi try to put out the flames of Mount Frying pan. In the Anime Canon, Movie 1 does take place, otherwise the Garlic Junior saga makes no sense. Very slight plot issues aside, Movie 1 at the very least is a part of the Anime continuity. That is the last time we see Goku use the Pole in the Anime. Sometime after that he returned it to Korin in the Anime version of the story. For one, we see it connected between the tower and the Temple lookout again in the Cell arc. I have always assumed that is how Korin himself gets to the Temple if need be. Also earlier in the Garlic Junior Saga, Korin wagers the Power Pole in a card game with Yajerobi and Marron. So it very clearly is back in his possession.

It originally belonged to Korin anyway. Korin loaned it to roshi when he was young to get Roshi to stop begging for it. Roshi passed it to Son Gohan, who in turn gave it to his grandson, Son Goku. It makes sense that it was finally returned to its original owner.

About Bulma flying up there in the Cell arc, there is an explanation for such. Back when Goku first went up there he was being tested by Kami himself. Recall in the Anime during the training, they send him to a mountain top to claim a crown and he has to dodge lightning. We often see weather affected by the power of the various fighters. I always figured Kami had mastery over such things and by use of his own power caused the lightning strikes and prevented anyone from reaching or seeing the Temple.

By the Cell arc, the world looks like it is going to be destroyed for one. Secondly they are temporarily without a Guardian. Third, Kami and Daimao Junior have remerged, and he does nothing to prevent Bulma from reaching them, so it seems he approved or at least allowed it for the sake of her being Goku and Gohan's friend.

Also, as was stated, by the time someone like Cell was around, the Power Pole would probably break if used against him anyway.

Now, about Kinto'un, Goku continues to use it whenever he needs it, even in Z. Think back, to after the fight with Baba's fighters at her Palace. Roshi tells Goku that the Kinto'un will not allow him to become stronger if he uses it all the time and forbids its use for a time.

Goku used it to go after Raditz to avoid being picked up by the scouter and to conserve energy, since he'd already been smacked around once. Goku again uses it after returning to life on his way to face Nappa and Vegeta. He gets a Senzu from Korin and then summons Kinto'un to take him to the battle so he can arrive at full power without having wasted any Ki yet.

Also, as was mentioned, he uses it to fly to Capsule Corporation to pick up his spaceship and head to Namek during the Freeza story arc.

Anytime after that I can pretty much explain why he wasn't using it. When Goku returned from Namek, they were immediately warned about the Androids from Trunks. Thinking back to Roshi's warning about the Kinto'un, and the fact that Goku wouldn't use it while training anyway, that explains its non-use during those three years, which we see very little of anyway.

If you don't buy that reasoning, there is always the little fact that Goku knows Instant Transmission by that point and really doesn't need to fly anywhere anymore unless he chooses to. Also, the original Kinto'un was killed by Tambourine, and had to talk to Korin to get another one. So aside from its uses against the Saiyans, I doubt Goku would put it in danger again unless he had to.

After the Androids was Cell and after Cell Goku was dead. We see Gohan and Goten making use of the Kinto'un early on in the Saiyaman saga. Then in the Kanzeban Manga, Goku ultimately gives it to Uub in the end. So it, unlike the Power Pole is never forgotten and is seen throughout the series in places where it makes sense.

Thats about all the explaining my fingers can take for the moment..

 Long post! I liked that pole too!It would have been awesome if Gohan or Goten used it. Anyway, it might have been put away as a keepsake like the forth dragonball. Oh!By the way... did anyone notice that the Dragonballs were a lot smaller in DB than in DBZ?Or is it just me?

Haha, you're probably thinking of the Namekian Dragonballs. Porunga has bigger balls then Shenron. (^_~)

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

He couldn't have been, or he would've been wrecked by the Ginyu Force.

*wonders how Gohan lost his sword*

You know, I just thought of the auras in Legends, for some reason.
The only time I think Goku has the red aura in Legends is in the fight with Freeza, which instantly suggested Kaioken to me... or maybe that was just the only time I noticed it. *used the PS1 dbz games to gauge decrease in vision*.

Since Nyoui Bo's purpose was to get to the lookout, and everyone could fly up there... you'd think it wouldn't be necessary until like, Goku JR starts training or something?

And just for the record, I greatly enjoy Akira's posts... because I feel like I'm learning something... which needs to happen more.

Gohan didn't lose it per sé, he apparently never saw the need to use it again. And, as Goku points out later on with the help of Trunks, swords are absolutely useless anyway against high powered fighters. (and therefore staves probably are too. =D)
