Re: How long have you ever left the Dragonball series before
I'm pretty sure I'm about to leave it now. I'm choosing to wait until Super gets a proper American release so that I can watch it with Steve Simmoms' subtitles and with a dub. I don't want to spoil it. I got a Battle of Gods Malaysian blu-ray with subtitles before FUNimation's came out and apparently the subtitles weren't very accurate. I'm going to buy Super when it's released, so why spoil it for myself? It seems like Super is all everybody talks about, so once I get my Resurrection F, I'm probably done until Super is released by FUNimation. If it takes 5 years, so be it.

I've actually been trying to piece together my fandom, as well.
I'm 29 now, and started watching the initial airings on Toonami like a lot of us. I definitely remember watching during the switch over from the Ocean cast, but also gave it up prior to the end of the Freeza saga. I did have a lot of the general story and characters from future sagas spoiled from friends, DBZ Uncensored, etc. that I came to regret. Also watched a few of the DB episodes (I believe they aired immediately before DBZ), but pretty on-and-off there.
Anyway, I can't recall why, but in 2007/2008, I got interested again. Ended up watching the entire series -- and I remember being strangely familiar with a lot of the episodes from the Cell and Boo arcs, although I couldn't remember ever watching them. Ended up going through all of DB as well.
Went on another hiatus again until late 2009 when I found out about Kai. It was at that point that I discovered this forum and started posting. But ended up losing interest again after the end of the Cell arc. Funny enough, I actually think I gave up on it right when the whole Yamamoto BS went down.
And that brings us to about a month or two ago when my interest was again rekindled, for whatever reason. Finding out there was a Buu Kai arc, two new movies and Super was a nice surprise. As long as new stuff keeps getting pumped out, I think I'll continue being interested.

I don't know maybe 2003-2009. I grew out of it once I got older like many things from my childhood.

I only ever "grew out" of the English version. I can maybe take a break from the Japanese version, but I don't think I'll ever grow out of it.Son Edo wrote:I don't know maybe 2003-2009. I grew out of it once I got older like many things from my childhood.

I don't think I've ever "left" the series. I've always been a fan and I always say that I'm as big a fan today as I was when I first started watching it 15 years ago. There was however a spell after Dragon Ball had finished airing in the UK where things were very quiet. It was like "oh I've seen everything now" and because I generally had no friends who watched Dragon Ball, it wasn't brought up very often in conversation. I didn't own any DVDs of it at the time so I wasn't watching the series all that often - just occasionally checking fansites and watching the series in really poor pixelated quality on my computer. So my interest in it hadn't waned or anything and it was always in my mind. The series just wasn't as accessible to me as it is now.

From the mid-2000s to the end of the 2000s. I remember around that time stuff like Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon started to be considered 'uncool'.

Just coming back from a 5 or 6 year break.
Not sure what started it. Seeing a lot of Dragon Ball related memes popping up on facebook.
As big a fan I was back in 2002, still realize I have a lot to catch up on. Watching the last couple movies I never got around to. Video games like Heroes and XenoVerse. Finally completing my DB Saga Sets and GT double-discs. Scrounging for manga in the 90's Viz larger editions for a more uniform collection.
