What if the movies were adapted into anime episode filler?
I was just thinking since Super adapted Battle of Gods into episodes, what if something like this always happened?
What if TOEI also put Cooler, Broly, etc. into anime filler arcs similar to the Garlic Jr. saga? They would be re-tellings of the movie but with continuity into the anime to fit them in better. It would also help appease the people who want to see Cooler, Broly and some other characters in anime canon.

The problem with this is that a lot of the movies are basically already retellings of stuff that happens in the canonical story, so it could be redundant.

I think a long time ago Tree if Might was split into 3 episodes but they didn't really try to fit it in the actual story

That was just during the American syndication broadcast in its original 1996-1998 run. It just aired that way out of nowhere, yeah.jamiljamtheman wrote:I think a long time ago Tree if Might was split into 3 episodes but they didn't really try to fit it in the actual story

Did they add any ED/OP or title cards to the split episodes? Or did they literally just air it like that just split up?VegettoEX wrote:That was just during the American syndication broadcast in its original 1996-1998 run. Yeah, they had title cards, thought it was all probably just "The Tree of Might".Baggie_Saiyan wrote:<br abp="692">Did they add any ED/OP or title cards to the split episodes? I would actually like to see some of these made into short arcs, like 5 or so episodes. Goku's comebacks are usually pitiful. After getting the crap kicked out of him for almost a long time, he usually gets in a few hits and then a finisher. It's not as cathartic as say the Freeza arc where he just beat the piss out of Freeza and humiliated him.

Re: What if the movies were adapted into anime episode fille
I think it'd be very interesting, If they were to do the Parallel Universe thing, I could see them following up with it, but to fit it in the Actual Super storyline would be rather hard, because Goku and Vegeta are SSG's and the movie character's would need insane power-up's to make them threats.
Another idea I think they could really implant the movies as filler while Goku and Vegeta was gone to Universe 6, say Cooler came to earth while they was gone, and it was up to Gohan, Trunks, and Piccolo etc to protect the earth, and it would also give the other Z warrior's some spotlight.

If they tweaked the storylines enough to make them fit in the timeline and changed the parts which are too similar to the series to avoid redundancy, I'd like the idea.

Wasn't necessarily out of nowhere, if I'm remembering correctly. I believe they aired the entire series (what they had up to that point anyway), which ended roughly when Goku knocks out Reacoom. They then aired all 3 movies as stand alone episodes, in order, with Deadzone being split into 2 episodes, World's Strongest being split into 3 episodes, and Tree of Might being split into 3 episodes. After that, the series would start over again and the process was repeated until Funimation was able to begin dubbing new episodes for Toonami to air.VegettoEX wrote:That was just during the American syndication broadcast in its original 1996-1998 run. Re: What if the movies were adapted into anime episode fille
I don't remember it that way at all. I don't think syndication aired the other two films, just Dead Zone. I remember because when it aired, I was confused. How did they get back to Earth? Did I miss something? Airing the third movie as 3 episodes strikes me as something done to fulfill an order for a certain number of episodes. I find it interesting is that the Namek arc cut out considerably less material, to the point that many of the edits are imperceptible. They then aired all 3 movies as stand alone episodes, in order, with Deadzone being split into 2 episodes, World's Strongest being split into 3 episodes, and Tree of Might being split into 3 episodes. Re: What if the movies were adapted into anime episode fille
Those were the days when I had my VCR recording the episodes every day, haha (man how times change). Obviously I have no evidence to back up my claim factually, aside from the fact that I watched those old recorded VHS's constantly. And I explicitly remember the 3 movies, split into episodes, as a result.ABED wrote:I don't remember it that way at all. I don't think syndication aired the other two films, just Dead Zone. Whoops, that should be "Tree of Might" not Dead Zone.

A title card with a CGI tree was made, using the same creepy Saiyan/Namek saga title card music. I'm pretty sure it was used for all three episodes.
FUNimation has never released Tree of Might in the three episode format, and recordings of the episodes have never surfaced online, so it's unclear whether or not they actually made recaps/previews for it.
The edited Tree of Might dub was made back when Dragon Ball Z was on The WB/UPN. It originally aired in the middle of the Namek saga, just before the Ginyu Force arrive.the1payday wrote:Wasn't necessarily out of nowhere, if I'm remembering correctly. The third Legacy of Goku show how Fusion Reborn could have work in the show. Ditch the villains returning back from Hell on Earth and just have Goku fight Janemba while Goten and Trunks are still learning fusion on Earth. However Kaioshin would need to take notice with Janemba's actions though.

They'd need to be drastically expanded, and I'm not sure they'd be very satisfying for it. Most of their plots are just digest versions of in-series plot points meant to facilitate flashy fights. And that's fine, but that's not very compelling for a series.

I remember the Tree of Might broadcast that was split into 3 episodes, I watched it. Did no one really record it?
Cool stuff that I upload here because Youtube will copyright claim it: https://vimeo.com/user60967147

Re: What if the movies were adapted into anime episode fille
It was really funny. You'd be watching Goku about to square off with Jheese and Butta, the narrator says, "Is Goku really the legendary Super Saiyan? Stay tuned for scenes from the next episode of Dragon Ball Z!" There would be a preview for the next episode. And then...the next episode is the Tree of Might. It was hilarious. Though it was the version with Ian James Corlette, never before released on DVD until the Rock the Dragon set. So it must have been the first movie they recorded, before Peter Kelamis came on board.

Re: What if the movies were adapted into anime episode fille
If the movies where adapted into episodes of the show, they would have been rewritten for them to work. This is how I would adapted the 13 DBZ movies into anime episodes.
DBZ Movie 1 - Set it before Radditz, replace Krillin with Yamcha and don't have Goku and Piccolo make any comment on their weight clothes.
DBZ Movie 2/3/4 - Maybe have it set right Trunks kills Freeza. Vegeta goes off into space to train while Kochin ends up wishing Dr. Uiro out of his ice pit. The Z fighters mistaken Dr. Uiro for Gero. Goku ends up beating Dr. Uiro as a SSj and blasts him into dust with a Kamehameha. Meanwhile in space, Vegeta finds Turles on another Planet and kills him along with his henchmen before they can go to Earth. Vegeta also bumps into Lord Slug and defeats him on his training journey across the galaxy.
DBZ Movie 5 - Set right after Trunks kills Freeza as well. Vegeta comes back to Earth after training in space. Vegeta, Tien, Chaozu and Yamcha also join to help fight against Coola and his squad.
DBZ Movie 6 - Can be set before the Cell games. Just have Trunks join along and have Metal Coola be defeated quickly as possible.
DBZ Movie 7 - Same with DBZ Movie 6. #13-#15 show up before the Cell games and Cell chooses not to absorb them as they are not worth his time.
DBZ Movie 8 - Same with DBZ Movies 6-7
DBZ Movie 9 - Set right after Cell and have Goten appear as a baby.
DBZ Movie 10 - Set before Goku returns to Earth. Have Goten not know who his dad is, remove Videl, have Piccolo, Krillin, #18 and Vegeta join to help.
DBZ Movie 11 - Set before Goten and Trunks finds Vegeta fighting Buu. Just remove Krillin and replace him with Yamcha since Krillin would be stone during the time when the movie was set.
DBZ Movie 12 - Just see how Legacy of Goku 3 did it.
DBZ Movie 13 - Set after Buu and a few years before Super. Have Mr. Satan and Buu appear. Mr. Satan gets credit for saving the day again.
