Re: SSJ Black?
Just a little heads-up, so your future posts don't make you sound ignorant or racist, try simply saying "Japanese" or "JP" if you must abbreviate it. Saying "Jap" isn't as well accepted in today's era, and in fact is a disrespectful remark. The same can be said if you're gonna refer to Akira Toriyama simply as "Akira", unless you're a real good friend with the man, the proper way to address him is Akira Toriyama, Mr. Toriyama, or even just Toriyama.tainted saiyan wrote:So, I was looking for DBZ figures and found this: http://www.toysrus.ca/webapp/wcs/stores ... ctId=95601

On topic, I have no idea what that figure's from. Though it seems to be a definitive potara merging of SSJ3 Goku and Raditz.

Thankyou, at least someone pointed it out. I'm not even Japanese and it pisses me off.Conan the SSJ wrote: Just a little heads-up, so your future posts don't make you sound ignorant or racist, try simply saying "Japanese" or "JP" if you must abbreviate it. It's not so much that anyone took offense, I think we all knew you were using it as just an abreviation. It's just that in the past (and maybe even currently, don't know) the term was used as a racist remark, and most of us would like to distance ourselves from that as much as possible.tainted saiyan wrote:It was meant as an abbreviation. Sorry if you took any offense,
Come to think of it, this isn't the only weirdly colored DBZ figure I've seen lately. Funimation has a new line of action figures in their online store that are colored black and white. Maybe they're trying for some kind of authentic manga look?

If you look at basically any of the recent "Ultimate Figure" series from Bandai, they're ALL in this... black and white look. I think there were some others, but I know this is the series that uses it the most.
In fact these are all that are on the shelves in some stores when it comes to dragonball z figures. And it sucks, cause they're like 10 - 12 bucks a figure, and they're tiny! But they do have the most articulation any dbz figure has ever had, and they come with removable shirt tops, or armor in vegetas case, and interchangable hands: open, and closed fists. It's not going for an evil look or anything... but I have no idea wtf they're thinking...
But I say if anyone is interested at all in getting these, look for the colored versions instead

That's a JP figure from the Ultimate Figure Series. I guess they tried to make the series "cooler" by giving a sort of pallet swap. What I like about these figures is that they've got more points of articulation than your average figure, so you can pose 'em in any you want (please, no dirty comments).
EDIT: Aw crap, nathantheguitarist beat me to it! And yeah, I'd suggest only getting the b/w versions if you want to do some kind of custom paint job.

Technically, shortening a name doesnt make you ignorant or racist, just lazy.
I'm sick of people using that word all the damn time.."ignorant". They just throw it around like its birdseed.
Besides, diminuitives are meant to be AFFECTIONATE not RACIST.
I'm not offended by "Ameri", or "Scot" or "Celt" or "Cauc", so what makes a difference if someone is a "Mexi", a "Viet", a "Pinoy", a, "Jap" or a "Aleut"?

To be honest, I don't see the big problem either. Though if people find it offensive, which normally someone always does, you should just call them by the full name of being Japanese, just to save arguments. To be honest I have said things like that my self and thought nothing of it (not meaning it in a nasty manor)and I'm sure some Japanese people don't care either but since we live in a ''politically correct'' world, where most people do take offense it's probably best to be carefull what you say.
Back in WWII when America was fighting against the Japanese, propaganda started using the term "jap" (and "japo") as a slang term for the Japanese, very much the same way they called Germans "Krauts". It was intended as a derogatory racial slur; even though it isn't used today, it still is a racial slur.aarondirebear wrote:Technically, shortening a name doesnt make you ignorant or racist, just lazy.

The word "Jap" was used derogatively during World War II, in propaganda and in general by American citizens, and it still has that connotation. That's the difference.aarondirebear wrote:Technically, shortening a name doesnt make you ignorant or racist, just lazy.

Since he changed the word anyways, and this hasn't got anything to do with Dragonball I'm hoping to end this now. In Japanese dictionaries, the term Jap is only defined as a disparaging term used against the Japanese people, like it is the case in many English language dictionaries.
Enough said, you shouldn't really be saying it.
