Episode #0059 (07 January 2007)
Moderators: Kanzenshuu Staff, General Help
Listened to it all, great podcast. I'd just like to say something. Battle Stadium D.O.N is available on Gamecube as well as P.S.2. So, if you think about it, it is less expensive to simply buy a Freeloader and the game rather than the entire Japanese PS2 and the game. In conclusion, if all you want outta Japan is D.O.N, Gamecube is totally the way to go.

Nice episode! Very interesting to hear you go through the import games on each system and how to play them. I would kill to see Mike and that mom arguing. I have seen people like that as well and they irritate the hell out of me. I'm happy to hear the European version of Sparking NEO! will get additional characters the US version didn't get as it makes me a little happier about how ridiculously long the game is taking to get to Europe.
Awesome that you are giving away the DB/One piece crossover. I'll definitively enter it when i get the time to send in an email. Cool to hear the D.O.N ending at the end of the episode. It has been such a long time since i last heard it.
Looking forward to more video game themed episodes!

My bad... I totally forgot about D.O.N. being on Gamecube, but you're right. That's probably the way to go, especially with the Smash Bros.-esque controls.
Be sure to get in those contest entries! Yes, all you honestly need to do is the send the e-mail as mentioned in the episode

Oh wow! I had no idea that was you guys who bought my Dr. Slump piece! I mean, I knew you were there but you didn't seem like the kind of people to visit the art show. I'm HONORED. Yes, the Otakon staff is pretty slow with sending things out. I didn't recieve my check until two months after the con and I thought THAT was a long time.
Very interesting topic this week. I would never allow myself to tamper with technology that way of course, I just don't trust myself, but still maybe someday...

Great podcast! I'm usually not into video game subjects in the podcast, but I liked this one, since it talked about the ways one can get around stuff. The whole thing with the pliers and the SNES sounds pretty interesting (and following along with the pictures put up makes it even better).
As for Top 5 suggestions, I might think up some suggestions and send 'em to you guys.

Boy, if there ever was a week for the podcast to be white and nerdy, this is the week! And I mean that in a great way! The Genshiken-like otaku intro (Mike sounding like Madarame), the plethora of video gaming information, and the random out-of-place ghetto-speak here and there. Yay.
As for those DBZ box sets starting to come out next month, I'm going to get the first box set and we'll go from there. Again, as a recent convert to the Dragonball world, I'm interested in seeing this in one sitting, or at least over the course of several days. I even already have a rough idea for an AMV in mind depending on what footage I'm hoping to see. Oh, and it'll be exciting for me to hear the English dub with the Japanese music... DBZ just isn't DBZ without Hironobu Kageyama.
(BTW, "Navarre" has 2 syllables (na-VARR), and "Geneon" doesn't grant wishes (JENN-e-on).)
I noticed that one of the e-mails discussed the "Watch the show in Japanese or English?" question. Interestingly enough, just last night I pulled out the Trunks DVDs I got at AWA and decided to watch a couple of episodes, first in Japanese, and then in English. It's a world of difference for the two versions as far as voices and music go, and I think both hold up equally well in conveying the tone of the episode. However, I could tell the "green-ness" in Eric Vale's voicing of Trunks in those episodes as compared to the stuff he's been doing today.... and I'm hoping that FUNimation might do some pick-up lines to sharpen up the delivery of some of his lines when those episodes come out on DVD down the road. However, I like BOTH the Japanese AND English versions of the show. As for you, DVD technology is great because you know you can switch to whatever language you want for the audio. Try it in Japanese. You might like it. This is coming from someone who prefers English dubs and knows a lot of the English voice actors and their works. All you need is an open mind.
As far as gaming, all my friends are into the Bemani games, and they all have modded their PS2's as opposed to buying the Japanese PS2, and I am very familiar with the swap discs and slide cards. They have pretty much no problem with those things and their imports work just fine. Like Mike & Meri said, though, your mileage may vary, and you mod you stuff at your own risk.
This was a good podcast this week, a very informative one that extended further than the usual DBZ fan. Big thumbs up. The learnin' never stops at Daizenshuu EX The Podcast.

I've never done it. We're gonna do a little segment later with Castor about it, including the Barcode Battlernathantheguitarist wrote:I might have missed this in the podcast, but why wasn't the NES/Famicom covered on how to play import stuff?

I note you mentioned something about Shinpan's picture being kinda bent when you got it. You're fortunate, considering that LauraNeatO, who bought another one of Shinpan's pictures from there, got hers in a ridiculously crumpled state. Not quite the best service to give someone who bought something at your convention... and something that wasn't even yours to begin with. >_<
Should I ever go to Otakon, I'll probably veer away from submitting any art to the galleries, especially for sale...
Oh, and... Cardcraptors. LOL. xD

I just got Guitar Hero II a couple of days ago, and it is indeed quite awesome! I had to run out and buy a second guitar controller right away so I could party with my friends.
Also, sorry if this is slightly off-topic, but have you guys (Mike, Meri, and Julian) ever posted pictures of yourselves? I'm curious to see who I'm listening to!
And finally, props to going to Mitsuwa. I love that place.

Guitar Hero II, is awesome besides Free Bird.
Anyways, here's Mike & Meri and this is Julian.
(Never seen Julian before, and only seen Mike/Meri because desirecampell linked it some time ago).

That's okay. I always play horrible in front of everybody at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, EB, etc. I happen to be really good at home. Unfortunately, this only occurs when nobody is around..! I'm surprised this game has become so popular all of a sudden. Before I forget, "Heart Shaped Box" ftw.SSj Kaboom wrote:I tried the Guitar Hero demo in Wal-Mart today. I sucked at it. >.<

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Ugh quick question, why is GH2 being spoke about, was it mentioned in the P/C?
[Edit: Fuck it, I'll listen myself. It's been a while, heh then I'll edit so this post is actually related to the podcast.]
