Dragon Ball Z Trading Cards Past and Present
I happened to stop by my local Gamestop today when I noticed that apparently Dragon Ball Z trading are back under the title of Panini Dragon Ball Z TCG.
While I had no interest in buying them because I am an adult and I have better things to do than play a children's card game (I'm lying), I couldn't help but remember back then during the golden age of trading card games when Yu-gi-oh and Pokemon and even Digimon cards were big that I happened to have a few Dragon Ball Z cards myself. Despite not ever learning how to actually play the darn game, I remember really liking each of the cards and taking care of them fairly well while specifically cherishing a holographic Trunks card that my sister crumpled up as vengeance for accidentally deleting her Animal Crossing game.
So did anyone else ever have any of the Dragon Ball Z trading cards? Did you play? Do you still play with the new or old version? Any memories regarding them being in your life in any way?

Re: Dragon Ball Z Trading Cards Past and Present
I used to collect those cards like crazy. They were more readily available than toys were, at least in my location, so oh man did I buy them/have them bought for me like crazy. My collection shot up insanely at one point too when I found some kind of huge box thing at a local Dollar store for like $20 or so, that had a starter deck and like 20 or so smaller packs from various 'sagas' and stuff. Somehow or another I also ended up with a bunch of other Dragon Ball related cards to, including some that kind of detailed the story (sometimes out of order though) on their backs, as well as some Japanese cards of some sort, and some sort of French GT cards that seemed to be from a playable game of some sort as well. I don't even remember where the heck they came from.
Nowadays though, the cards just sit in the cardsleeve folder I have, along with old Digimon cards, the few Pokemon cards I had left (I think most of those I gave away to someone at some point), and various other things that I somehow ended up with at some point in time. I've been kind of interested in picking up a pack or so of the new version of the game just for old time's sake, and maybe occasionally getting some of the old packs off of RightStuf (cuz they still have them, shockingly) as order padding, but...I just don't have the room. Or any real use for them at this time, I guess.
I never got to play against someone else really, but I would occasionally make up two decks out of the cards I had and play against myself sort of, which was actually sort of fun in it's own way. I actually learned to play the game from the GBA game of all things.

Someone has to be playing with them. Panini just recently announced a new set and are hosting a world championship next month.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

I don't think I ever got any good at Score's CCG. I remember a scouter/sword combo piece of plastic thing that measured your power level. I wonder if we can dig up some ol' cards and throw them into the endless power canon debate...
I also had this weird Cell Games-era card where you play it, your opponent draws five cards, and if he doesn't have anything that can beat it, you win the game. It was more or less the Exodia(Yu-Gi-Oh!) of the game. I used it successfully exactly once.

I have a ton of DBZ/GT cards, but I never was sure how to play them, they all had power levels and such. They are from my childhood but I still have them. when I was younger around 10 years ago, I put them all in a plastic zip lock baggy to prevent them from being damaged then put them in a box since I never played with them, nor had anyone to play with. As far as Yu-Gi-Oh! goes, I played the hell out of that game and have thousands upon thousands of cards from my childhood, and the rare ones such as Exodia, God cards, etc I have all in sleeves. Even though I stopped playing the game after my friends and I grown up, I started collecting again when 5d's and Synchros came out, though I stopped collecting again after the end of that show. I always loved these card games but sadly in my time growing up no one was interested in DBZ cards around my area so I never collected them as much as Yu-Gi-Oh!. Everyone would rather watch the DBZ anime, read the manga, or play the video games instead. I have no idea why I bought the cards in the first place unless it was just a matter of them looking cool. I don't know much about the DBZ cards themselves or the sets, but I have this card if anyone knows what set its from or how collectible it is. ( My DBZ cards all are from the same set or manufacturer as this one)

The scouter was used to slide up on the card whenever you would gain or lose power from using attacks or playing certain cards and what have you. The sword was used to measure your anger level, going up to 5, and going up to 5 would allow you to 'level up' your main personality card - so if you were playing with a Goku deck, and you hit Lv. 5 in anger, then your 'Lv. 1 Goku' would go up to a 'Lv. 2 Goku' card, and have new power levels listed (though despite having higher numbers, that didn't really affect anything I don't thin), and a new ability with the card. If you could get your main personality up to Level 3 (or later 4 and I think they got up to 5 even), then you won a 'Most Powerful Personality' victory or something like that.

Re: Dragon Ball Z Trading Cards Past and Present
I only have 50 Panini TCG cards but only by accident as my mom got them for me thinking all DBZ cards were the same (I wanted the Hero Collection cards). I also have a few Ani-Mayhem cards, anyone remember those? I never learned how to play since most kids were busy with Pokemon which I never learned how to play either yet have binders full of cards.
Funny enough when my house flooded one of the first things I grabbed was my card binders along with my PS2 and copy of FFXII. During a disaster my priorities are very much in order
Now I mainly collect the 90s Japanese card (Carddass, PP, Visual Adventure, etc) since I couldn't get a hold of them as a kid.
