"Dragon Ball Super" Series Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
All you wondering why it still look a little weird is because, first of all these are still shots. Second of all, they most likely touched up some mistakes in the episode rather than fully redoing it (which makes perfect sense for a company to do.)
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
That is simply one of the upper shoulder muscles. Normally in Dragon Ball you see 2-3 drawn per arm and depending on the angle. Look at my avatar.Ajay wrote:It's not a third pec, but it is a little odd. They've done it for decades, and I'm still not 100% sure what exactly it's meant to be. I guess it's meant to be a way of fusing the arm to the torso? Not sure.Retan wrote:Great; but is the new version the one where Goku has three pecks?

Ah, I guess that sort of makes sense. By the way, you might want to consider a new image host for your avatar, as I had to disable my script-blocker to even view it. I imagine others will have the same issue.Cetra wrote:That is simply one of the upper shoulder muscles. Normally in Dragon Ball you see 2-3 drawn per arm and depending on the angle. I don't see much difference. But at least, they bothered to do something.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

So that was it? I also noticed a few days ago that his avatar stopped appearing, lol.Ajay wrote:Ah, I guess that sort of makes sense. Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Hopefully some more frames have been redrawn.
I don't get why people are being negative about it.
Episode 5 was an all time low, not because "it looked bad", but because half of the episode had not been corrected AT ALL by key animators. It was impossible to recognize the character if we made abstraction of his clothes.
Now he definitely looks like Goku. And it might not be "stellar" but it's perfectly fine for an ongoing series. If Goku looks like Goku all is good.
The horrors from the first half were just a nightmare. Hopefully they fixed some of them.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Goku's chest muscles now looks crooked by the angle they left it in. I guess barely on-model is better than vaguely on-model right Toei?
I mean, changing frames a bit won't mean anything id the fight's choreography is still just Goku jumping and missing for 5 long minutes. They could very well just copy + paste the BoG fight and stick it in there, and that would be an improvement in itself. I just hope they fix up the SSJ3 and that Hadoken scene.

Zephyr wrote:The fandom's collective fetishizing of "moments" is also ridiculous to me. No, not everyone needs a fucking "shine" moment. If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

I'm so relieved that they're fixing these types of scenes for the Blurays.Ajay wrote:Yup! Sure seems so. Though the improvements appear to vary. Some are really good:Sodhi wrote:Dragon ball super Blu-Ray episode set 1 should have come out today. So is something fixed or not?.
And others are... passable, at best.

What do you mean won't mean anything ? This isn't even an argument when the episode in question looked like this :SingleFringe&Sparks wrote:Goku's chest muscles now looks crooked by the angle they left it in. I guess barely on-model is better than vaguely on-model right Toei?

This isn't about changing Super, this is about finishing and correcting drawings that have clearly not been touched up by the key animators back in production before it aired on TV.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
There are definitely improvements in the new frames, it's not saying a lot considering Episode 5 of Super was the worst Dragon Ball has ever looked, but I definitely won't lose sleep over the retouched images when I'm finally watching this on my own Blu-ray player.

It looks much better now, especially the SS3 part of the fight. Still curious to see how it looks in motion, though, I'm sure the blur affects they added will make the scenes seem a lot more pleasant to look at.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I'm extremely happy and relieved. Props to Toei for fixing those frames.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
They didn't fix anything.
That's the normal correction the team led by Naoki Tate did, they just lacked time and aired the unfinished episode.
So I'm not sure we should praise Toei. I doubt they'd actually go back and fix any episode that was completed. In fact the typos and error of colors on finished episodes have not been touched upon on those blurays.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I wonder why they removed Beerus' snout in the third image, he looks weird without it plus there was nothing wrong with the way he was drawn in that frame.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I'm pretty sure whoever took these shots just snapped them at the exact same timecodes. The timing probably changed due to the corrections (there are other examples of this happening, too), so Beerus is mid-headturn when he took the shot. I imagine the final key-frame is still in tact.Kakarotto92 wrote:I wonder why they removed Beerus' snout in the third image, he looks weird without it plus there was nothing wrong with the way he was drawn in that frame.
