Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I mean, it's nice that they touched up the animation at all, but that still doesn't fix the fact that it was one of the dumbest fights in anime history. Goku is supposed to be this experienced, refined fighter, but he just wildly punches at the ground a bunch of times? I get that he misses because Beerus is too fast, but c'mon.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I was thinking of a similar theory, where in Uni 6 Bulma and Chi-Chi were born as saiyans and Gokû and Vegeta were born as humans. It was a different thread than this one that I was talking about it in though.DainIronfoot wrote:Evening lads,
I've asked this before but never seen anyone's thoughts on this. **spoiler if you haven't read Manga chapter 6**. I was imagining a scenario where 2 of Champa Sama's team are Saiyan females. One that resembles Chichi and the other Bulma. I thought it'd be interesting, especially after that bit about strong willed women and that Champa was thinking of getting Saiyans too.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Maybe Goku and Vegeta will purposely throw the tournament so they can stay in Universe 6 with their new wives.
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

Anyone, and I mean anyone would look dumb if they were throwing moves towards a target that was too fast to catch.batistabus wrote:I mean, it's nice that they touched up the animation at all, but that still doesn't fix the fact that it was one of the dumbest fights in anime history. You might be confusing martial arts with choreographed scenes in movies.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Is there still not a video sample of the animation fixes?
There's room for only one snake, and one big boss.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Actually, I fixed that on Photoshop and then posted it on Twitter. The user that originally uploaded it was complaining about the mistake, so I tried to make it right for fun.Sodhi wrote:

What episode(s) are the flashbacks in? Is it just the recap in Episode 1?omegalucas wrote:Have they redrawn the Z flashbacks?
I'll take a look at Episode 9 too.

Off the top of my head, there's a flashback in episode 2 about halfway through, I think.

They are also flashbacks in EP 19 and 21 which use the old DBZ footage.TripleRach wrote:What episode(s) are the flashbacks in? Is it just the recap in Episode 1?omegalucas wrote:Have they redrawn the Z flashbacks?

This first set only goes up to episode 12, though, so we'll have to wait for the second set to check any of that.Lord Beerus wrote:They are also flashbacks in EP 19 and 21 which use the old DBZ footage.
(I doubt any of the flashbacks will be touched.)

Am I the only one that is completely okay with the flashbacks being recycled?

It's inconsistent when they redid Goku and Kuririn's training, but then have all the other old footage for other flashbacks.Zetto wrote:Am I the only one that is completely okay with the flashbacks being recycled?

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Yeah, the flashbacks I noticed (in Episodes 1, 2, and 3) still use the same Z/Kai footage as the TV airings. Episode 9 seems to be untouched as well. The issue with 9 was just a lot of doofy faces, right? But here's the screenshots I took anyway, so I don't come empty handed. I didn't upload the corresponding TV screenshots because there didn't seem to be much point.
Here's a (crooked) menu photo too. Sorry I don't have a software player to do something cleaner. The Disc 2 menu is identical, save for an additional option to see the creditless themes.
The video stream on the discs is indeed 1920x1080, but to my knowledge digital TV anime are rarely (if ever?) actually animated in 1080. The level of detail here seems like it may be lower than that. However, I don't want people to get the impression that Toei or Happinet failed in mastering or encoding in some way, after all those angry rumors from last week. This is standard stuff.

Some other tidbits:
- No sponsor cards. No Japanese captions either, but you shouldn't expect those on TV discs anyway.
- I didn't notice anything in the preview for #5 at the end of #4, but the recap of #5 at the beginning of #6 does seem to have some touch ups to Gokuu's face.
- Those couple of frames of Vegeta with two left hands in the preview for #6 were corrected. It looks identical to the way it actually aired in #6.
- Videl's leggings are still missing in the preview for #3. I can't remember, was that corrected when #3 aired? If not I'll check, but rough time codes would be a big help for that.

I do as well cause it makes it feel more like a sequel.Zetto wrote:Am I the only one that is completely okay with the flashbacks being recycled?
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Yea I am ok with dbz flashbacks. It brings the nostalgia back. Plus I know they reanimate db flashbacks anyway, as it never had treatment that dbz got from the multiple releases.Zetto wrote:Am I the only one that is completely okay with the flashbacks being recycled?

I like it. Yes it may be inconsistent with other flashbacks to Dragon Ball, but let's be honest here when was this series ever consistent?Zetto wrote:Am I the only one that is completely okay with the flashbacks being recycled?
It is a nice way of creating a bridge to the past and recognize what Super is following on from.

Yes, that's how I feel. I don't mind flashbacks, but at least keep them consistent. Episode 21 is a great example. First, Freeza recognizes Krillin; flashback Namek footage. Cool! Then minutes later, Freeza remembers Gohan; insert off-model Kid-Gohan created by current artists. Why couldn't they just use the footage from the Krillin episode? Or redraw Namek Krillin? It really feels like two animators on the same episode are not communicating with eachother.Doctor. wrote:It's inconsistent when they redid Goku and Kuririn's training, but then have all the other old footage for other flashbacks.Zetto wrote:Am I the only one that is completely okay with the flashbacks being recycled?
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Personally, I'm totally ok with it. Most of the flashbacks up to now have been about 30 seconds long, it just isn't enough to justify paying someone to re-draw them. If they were perfectly fine to air for Kai, then it is fine for them to air now.Zetto wrote:Am I the only one that is completely okay with the flashbacks being recycled?
There was a scene in One Piece last week where they re-drew Zoro Vs. Mihawk at Baratie, but in total, that lasted for more than 3 minutes. If the scenes they were using for Super lasted that long, then they would have been re-drawn, no doubt, but 30 seconds here and there, not worth it.

The decision to re-use shots from Dragon Ball Kai are made by the episode director and storyboard artist and almost certainly a case of being low on time.LuckyCat wrote:Yes, that's how I feel.
