Narmy scenes
Narmy scenes
Just as simple as the title. Point out any scene that was supposed to be serious but had you ROFL/cringe instead for whatever reason (too much drama, awkward animation, cheesy lines...etc).
An angry Final Fantasy fan wrote: And after all the outrage, when I'm ready, I'll go out on to GameStop and buy a Persona 5 copy. And when my mother finds me investing my precious time trying to bond with this hot anime girl, I'll look straight into her eyes and say "but have you looked at the menu screen? have you actually seen the menu screen? In that very moment, she knows. She fucking knows. As she handles me the nugget pieces she previously cooked for me, she leaves my room with these words: "Persona 5 is the true savior of the JRPG".

Practically every line the original FUNi dub of Freeza:
"Pop goes the weasel."
"Yee-haw! Ride em cowboy!"
"I'll have to gag him to shut him up."
Oh God...

Re: Narmy scenes
I immediately thought of this.

I get that it's supposed to be creepy, but it's supposed to be creepy in a 'Why is Vegeta acting so nice, what is he up to, oh crap watch out Gohan' way...but instead this look just turns it into being creepy in a 'I NEED AN ADULT' way.

Vegeta standing on that cliff for 3 days without moving until Gokû arrives to tell him about the Room of Spirit and Time. I was like "Three days?! When does he eat or use the bathroom?!" It didn't look cool at all. It looked absurd in a clearly Vegeta way.
Honorable mention to Future Trunks for sitting there the same amount of time, watching Vegeta stand on that cliff.

"Narmy" is when a scene is supposed to be serious, but the scene is written badly and it is either not taken seriously or fans find it funny instead.

Is it cheating to say every moment of the Big Green/Speedy dubs? Haha. Pretty much every time in movie 7 when "Super" #13 and Piccolo (actually, pretty much everyone) fought was kind of unintentionally funny to me, which is part of the reason why I thought the TFS parody of the movie was hilarious. It was slapstick type stuff. Then again, that might've been intentional. That movie tried to have a little fun. You know what? It was probably intentional, but it was still funny.

Re: Narmy scenes
Okay, then I don't think a lot of the season 3 lines count as they were intentionally hammy. It's more like in Rocky III where Stallone's incoherent babbling and crying over Mickey's death comes off as funny instead of the intended effect - sadness.
As line's go, it's not awful, it's not as satisfying as the original, but it's not awful, nor Nar... I can't use it, i don't like the term.I didn't realize how much that line was changed... What a dumb decision.

Me either. I don't understand why TV Tropes had to invent this term when everyone else in the English speaking world already has a perfectly fine way to describe this phenomenon: "unintentionally funny."ABED wrote:I can't use it, i don't like the term.
One scene that never fails to crack me up is in the Big Green dub of Movie 2 when Piccolo shouts "Ready! READY!!! AAAAAGGGH!!!" and jumps at Dr. Uiro. It's just so over the top, and the way the camera is two inches from Piccolo's raging face just makes it that much funnier.

Re: Narmy scenes
It's more due to things sounding differently in another language than in another, would say Vegeta's line about his heart being pure evil after turning Super Saiyan. I'm guessing it sounded cool in Japanese, but in English it makes him sound like an over the top, card-carrying supervillain. For anime and manga in general, saying "This is unforgivable!" or "I won't forgive you!" sounds badass in Japanese, but in English, narmy.

Re: Narmy scenes
Probably because "unintentionally funny" is too much of a catch-all description for what Narm is about. Narm revolves around sheer hamminess, whereas something that is just merely unintentionally funny doesn't have to have those over the top qualities.Thouser wrote:Me either. Re: Narmy scenes
1 - I don't like TV tropes, they'll take anything that's used a couple of times and consider it a trope, 2 - Narm is too goofy a term for my liking, 3 - hamminess doesn't make it Narm if I get the definition. The term is derived fromm an incident that was supposed to be serious - a man suffering from an embolism runs words together. Unintentionally funny works just fine. Often times hammy is supposed to be funny.Captain-Sora wrote:Probably because "unintentionally funny" is too much of a catch-all description for what Narm is about. Re: Narmy scenes
Bulma being slapped by Beerus in Super is absolutely unbelievable.
Otherwise, I can't think of many in the original version, as the series knows when to be tongue-in-cheek and generally earns its drama. I'm sure if I rewatched the entirety of the original anime trilogy I could find a ridiculously drawn out staring contest or two though, or some humorously repeated animation cycle.
Also, TV Tropes is awful.

I can't believe I didn't think of that for this. That has to single handily be the most horribly, over the top, attempt to wring out drama only to completely fall on it's face, that I've ever seen. It's...it's almost so bad that it's actually glorious. But then it loops right back in to being just plain unbelievably bad.Cipher wrote:Bulma being slapped by Beerus in Super is absolutely unbelievable.
I don't really have a problem with TV Tropes myself. I don't use them a whole lot or anything, but some pages can make for an amusing enough read when I'm not up to much else. Kind of like Cracked articles.

I cant believe I didn't think of it either. Very cheesy. Also I dont pay much attention to TV tropes to know about how good/bad it is, but it was the first thing that popped up.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I can't believe I didn't think of that for this.
