Broly's Motivation
I almost hate to open this can of worms, but does anyone else find Broly's whole beef with Goku to be absolutely nonsensical? It seems that we're expected to believe that a newborn was so distressed by another baby's crying that he was able to remember him by name, recognize him decades later and this is what sets him on a murderous rampage? If anything, wouldn't it be Vegeta who sets him off since it was his father who stabbed Broly.
Am I asking for too much in wanting a DBZ movie to make sense?

Re: Broly's Motivation
Agreed, they couldve atleast put more effort into Broly's motive. ExperGamez made a good video on how to re-do Broly's motive.
You haven't figured it out yet? I'm the Saiyan who came all the way from Earth for the sole purpose of beating you. I am the warrior you've heard of in legends, pure of heart and awakened by fury. That's what I am. I AM THE SUPER SAIYAN, SON GOKU!

Re: Broly's Motivation
Paragus was the one who gave this idea and IIRC at that point he haven't known that Goku can also turn into SSJ, so he stuck to whatever seemed logical to him. Unreliable narrator. I would also like to see Brolly being triggered by Vegeta, but I rationalise it by thinking that LSSJ saw Goku as an usurper who dared to (unknowingly) challenge him.

Re: Broly's Motivation
I always thought he'd have seen Vegeta and recall the stabbing, because he looks like King Vegeta. If he remembered anyone, it looked like it would have been the stabbers face and the guy that ordered it.
Re: Broly's Motivation
Broly operates almost solely on an instinctual level. He can think and speak like a regular person, but he is basically a slave of his instincts, especially when he is on full LSSJ mode. Being that close to his instincts has its advantages, and those instincts told him that Goku was a rival, a rival that could, ultimately defeat him and he knows this right after seeing him. So, Broly feels immediately the need to crush Goku and the threat that he represents, like an animal that feels that his territory was invaded.Nightmare Wheel wrote:I almost hate to open this can of worms, but does anyone else find Broly's whole beef with Goku to be absolutely nonsensical? The movie itself goes out of its way to transmit this idea of Goku being a threat to Broly despite their power difference via the plot, which is why the scene of baby Goku managing to irritate baby Broly is pretty important. With that scene, we see a weak baby Goku, with a power level of 2, managing to irritate a powerful baby Broly, with a power level of 10.000. That's the perfect metaphor for them and how their relationship will play out. Despite the huge power difference, Goku still finds a way to affect Broly, and that ultimately defeats Broly. That little scene is the movie in a nutshell, and being such a good metaphor of the movie, they even play it out as a flashback when Goku is defeating Broly to emphasize its importance and the culmination of the movie.
So, no, you are not asking too much in wanting the movie to make sense and it actually makes perfect sense. All you have to do is not listen to the fans that claim that Broly went mad simply because he heard Goku cry, or that he doesn't like Goku because he remembers the crying, because that's what doesn't make sense, and instead think from the point of view of the guys who made the movie, and realize their point with that scene and the rest of the movie.

Re: Broly's Motivation
Goku reminds Broly of his past, hence why Broly feels the need to kill Goku.
This video pretty much explains it better than I:

Goku triggers supressed memories in Broly of the horrible stabbing he received as a baby. Along with the death and destruction of Planet Vegeta. Heck, he was probably in pain initiating the lssj while he was a baby, bleeding out in the process too. Itd probably make anyone go insane

Re: Broly's Motivation
In addition to what was said, it should be noted that nothing is indicated that it was king Vegeta that actually stabbed Broly, just that he gave the order to have him killed. All we're shown of Broly's "killer" was a gloved arm and a knife, but the appearance of the glove and arm suggest a sleeveless individual rather than the unitard that the king was shown to be wearing. As such, it seems more a situation of it being an unnamed assassin rather than it actually being the king, thus why Broly isn't set off by Vegeta in any way.Nightmare Wheel wrote:I almost hate to open this can of worms, but does anyone else find Broly's whole beef with Goku to be absolutely nonsensical? Why would he have known or recognized who ordered it? There's no indication that king Vegeta ever actually saw Broly at all (or vice versa), since Broly was always in the nursery with Goku after they were born. Other than being told about it later by his father, there's nothing shown to indicate that Broly would have had any way of linking the assassination attempt on him with king Vegeta, so there's no reason that he'd get emotionally upset in Vegeta's presence in comparison to Goku's.I always thought he'd have seen Vegeta and recall the stabbing, because he looks like King Vegeta. If he remembered anyone, it looked like it would have been the stabbers face and the guy that ordered it.

Re: Broly's Motivation
If I recall, Paragus and Bardock never got along very well. But that still doesn't explain much.
Broly was all brawn and no brains. Just a musclehead. It boggles my mind as to why he has so many fans. He's just a brainless monster.
