The SS1 and SS2 transformation scenes really demonstrate how concise Toriyama could be with plot-turning scenes. Toei probably deserves much of the credit for making these moments so iconic. Of course, the company's adaptation is also largely to blame for Dragon Ball Z's reputation for egregiously drawn-out power-ups. It doesn't help that the animators were clearly working with a crazy handicap. Even in the Goku vs. Vegata scene, which has long been touted for its animation, the staff could barely keep up with capturing the energetic life of Toriyama's panels.
