Why are Vegito and Gogeta so popular?

Post by precita » Thu Dec 17, 2015 3:37 pm

Vegito only got 4 episodes of screentime. Gogeta got literally the last 3 minutes of Movie 12, and 1 episode in GT. When you stop to think of it these forms are barely even in the series.

Why is a character who only got 4 measly episodes out of a 291 episode series so insanely popular? Is it because he looks cool? He's the fusion of Goku and Vegeta? Because he was the most powerful fighter in the Buu arc?

I mean I say this as someone who likes Vegito too, and even I don't get why I like him so much.

I'd say it's definitely due to how much of a tease they both are. That's both in terms of raw in-universe power, and also just how little screen-time they got. There's no time to get sick of them. All you can do is want more of them!

EDIT: Oh, and the over-embellished fansub translation ("I am the instrument of your defeat!" -- which, incidentally, made its way into Buu's Fury) certainly didn't hurt.

I think it's got to do with how strong they are, mostly.

I think Gogeta's also liked because of how "no mess no fuss" he approached battle in his brief Movie 12 appearance. (Not counting GT and how oddly silly he was in GT).

Vegetto's also liked because of how clever he was against Buu, and also since we saw more of him we get to see how Gokû and Vegeta's personalities meld and how the traits balance each other. (I still agree with that old thread that the potara earrings fusion messed Gokû up somewhat and left Vegeta's head in a healthier place when the fusion dissolved. I could even theorize that all of Gokû's "notice me, Vegeta!" in Super can be traced back to the post fusion in Buu since there's some of that in those chapters too where prior to Gokû didn't pay too much attention to Vegeta.).
On hiatus.

Mainly because how OP they are. Both humiliated their opponents and people like that.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Limited screen-time

Even Gotenks (a Fusion character) with loads of tricks & OverPowered af (debates of his Base > SSJ3 Goku is still going on), didn't make much of any impact as Vegito & Gogeta

Cool design? Mark
Badassery ? Mark
Ridiculously OverPowered ? Mark

Btw, Gogeta in Fusion Reborn was dope, while GT's was poop

I think I'm one of da very few (if there's any) who was bored with SSJ Vegito halfway in his battle against Buuhan. Guess it got to do with horrible animation (Uchiyama & Ebisawa). But bland one-sided STOMP didnt help either

Because they are a fusion of Goku and Vegeta, who are both fan favorites to begin with. Also, like someone else already said, their power has something to do with their popularity as well.

Hopefully we will see Gogeta in god form with blue hair in Super.

You're certainly not the only one, the anime dragged it out waaaay too much. That Ebisawa episode, mostly filler (270) where Buu enters Vegito's body and later starts shattering dimensions or something was absolutely awful. I think it's my least favorite DBZ episode, really.

It waz hideous, no doubt
They should've made the whole Vegito segment tight or either have guys like Masunaga Keisugi/Tadayoshi Yammamuro to animate as its such a hyped moment (Goku & Veggie's power showcased)

Alas, we're stucked with Ebisawa

Ep 270 & 275 were easily worst episodes of Buu Arc, esp the latter. Gosh, even Goku would've puked lookin at how distorted his face looked like

Vegito fighting as a candy was absolutely hilarious. Especially with him zooming into Buu non-stop and threw his neck.

Because they're ''Badass''.That is what the majority of people outside of Kanzenshuu thinks the whole series is all about.Thats why guys like Broly,Bardock,SSJ2 Kid Gohan,Majin Vegeta etc.. are also so popular and characters like Monaca,Pilaf Gang and Current Gohan is hated.

Basically this. People tend overhype on "badass" characters. Characters who look cool, are over-powered and humiliate their oponent. Vegetto and Gogeta answer all of the requirements.
I think I'm the opposite of those people, which can explain why I tend to get bored with Vegetto/Gogeta scenes/fights, and I'm more of a fan of the funny and non-overpowered characters like Kuririn, Jaco, Pilaf and Yajirobe.
New User :) A Dragonball fan for over 10 years. My favorite character(s) are Kuririn and Goku.
And yeah, I need to find better signature.

It work both ways realy. Some fans overate Pilaf, Monaca, Jaco regardless if they're well designed and implemented or not. Joke/funny characters get instantly hailed as "true Toriyama", brilliant, pinnacle of satire writing and design etc.

Middle ground exists and not everything is black and white. There's a place and purpouse for clasically looking badass characters in DB, funnier characters and those that mix box aspects. Ideally all characters would have enough going on for them that they couldn't be accused of getting praised just because they're OP/manly-looking Hulk-smash or just because they're playing up to "funny-looking subverting expectations" thing that is really old by now in this franchise.

Less is more. Gogeta and Vegetto in brief appearances left such an impression that the fans wanted to see more of them. Hence why SSJ4 Gogeta became a thing in GT and why Dragon Ball Heroes is obsessed with Vegetto.

Heros will do literally anything that allows them to make new cards. Bulma-Janemba absorbed by Yajirobe-Cell? Absolutely possibe in this game :shifty:

Yes...

idk what else to write. That's pretty much it. lol. Remember, Broly is also a fan favorite character. This is DEFINITELY not because he's in three different movies and has oodles of screen time. He's strong, he looks cool, and he's an evil SSJ. Those are the only reasons...
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

Sometimes less is more and I think that's the main reason for them being so popular because people want to see more of them, but let's say they had some screen time in 20 episodes each. If it was like this in the DBZ days it would have dragged on with Vegitio, which would in turn cause people to want the arc to end already and that would result in him being less popular imo. It's pretty much like the retelling of the movies in Super at the moment, we have three different tellings with the anime, movies, and the manga. Most people are sick of the retellings and want fresh material, but when the movies first came out when it was still fresh material everyone loved them.
