Is Gohan ruined for good?

Post by MysticBenji » Fri Dec 18, 2015 1:39 pm

I'm a huge fan of DBZ and have been watching it since I was a kid. Gohan and Piccolo were always my favorite characters and just from watching GT (which I don't count) and Dragon Ball Super.. Why did Toriyama completely ruin Gohan. why through all his childhood and DBZ altogether they talk about his potential being better then anyone's but now it's completely wasted. I don't even read the manga but I heard from a friend he's not even gonna be one of the fighters for the tournament.

I'm just asking why and do you think it will change? Cuz honestly I've been debating on giving up on DBZ Super because I feel like its so much poorly written compared to other animes as I've gotten older.

So yeah please tell me if you think he's ruined for good or can he make a comeback cuz if not..

Gohan is, was and always will be a terribly written character. Nothing has changed.

Why do you think he's ruined? Is it because he ain't going around bitch slappin' bug men and pink gum monsters?

Wearing green jump suits getting punked by people he shouldn't. The ever constant change in terms of his powers and potentials..

It's just too inconsistent to make sense. IDK maybe people like only having 2 ppl fight the main person all the time but that isn't how an anime should be done IMO which is why dbz isn't the best writing

It doesn't even have to be Gohan but literally everyone not named Goku or Vegeta is basically irrelevant at this point to "Z-fighters" Should just call it Goku Vegeta and the others

That's not true. Beerus and Whis are very much relevant. Gohan and the others were relevant during the F arc considering Goku and Vegeta weren't accessible for half of it. And finally Piccolo and Boo will be getting a major role in the next arc.

If you'd see the past ten or so "Gohan is ruined" threads then you will know I feel almost the same way. I'm not really a Gohan fan but even I can see why some of his fans are upset. I personally don't care if Gohan ever fights a big baddy again. My problem with him is that his actions have become stale. He's nothing more than a punching bag for whoever the main villain at the time is. He's become the new Yamcha. And when the punching bag gets old and needs to be replace he will be cast aside, just like Yamcha before him.

He's become boring. What I would give for some more Gohan high school hijinks... All the writers need to do is find a way to make Gohan+Charts amusing.

People are complaining about his absence in the tournament, but do you honestly want him to be crapped on there? Smart decision leaving him behind, probably the best thing Toriyama did to Gohan writing wise.

You could bring Gohan to the tournament and have him look good.

I'm happy he didn't come, but I'm just saying that Toriyama can do whatever the hell he wants to the character, he's not limited to humiliation.

I think a year or two from now we'll all look back on this and laugh when Gohan becomes Super Saiyan Blue and surpasses Goku and Vegeta again.

Nah, I give it five to six and only be exclusive to DB Heroes.

Yeah I am getting real tired of these threads coming up time and time again. It's kinda aggravating since it's hardly been any time since the last one. I'll simply say he probably is since Gohan simply isn't entertaining at all. He was pretty entertaining playing with Pan and Mr. Satan, but that's about the only time he was in Super. Otherwise as said above he's boring. His job or whatever is no different than Yamcha being a Bouncer or Tenshinhan and Chaozu farming. Neither mean anything to the series, and are simply supplementary info. Goku had a family which beyond the prospect of those who became warriors, didn't mean much. Krillin had a family, and it really doesn't mean anything to the series. Vegeta has one, and really it's to produce Trunks as a warrior. He and Bulma have one moment, but other than that family doesn't really mean shit in the series beyond making more fighters. So it comes to no surprise Gohan also having a family means nothing to the series, cause family has nothing to do with it.

So if Super has Gohan becoming a SSjGSSj like Goku and Vegeta did then would fans start to like Gohan again? Fans didn't seem to like Buu saga Gohan until he became Mystic Gohan.

In the end you can't really please everyone.

I actually have a strong feeling he was left on earth for a reason. Maybe some evil dude will come to earth exactly when everyone is in the tournament. But HEY! Gohan is still on earth! He can take care of it. That way you can make Gohan look "cool" among the fans while not interfering the main story. Plus, I don't think the U6 arc will end with the tournament. Maybe what'll happen to Gohan will be the key to the events happening later.

Depends how that is utilized. What if say he does become one, and then either Goku and Vegeta far surpassed that level so it's obsolete, then I don't think it'd mean much no more. It'd be like if Goten went SSJ2. Doesn't matter since it's an obsolete form. If he did get it, and then had the Super treatment of being a measuring stick, then no I don't think they'd be happy. I'd like Gohan if he actually grew and learned for once. Instead he is like Goku in the end. A child in a man's body, but with different reasons.

Gohan is only "ruined" for as long as Toriyama comes up with a even more convenient way for him to skyrocket to the top of the pecking order without him having to do much. Honestly, I never found myself attached to Gohan or that greatly interested or invested him.

Toie and Toriyam are going out of their way to make him look as bad as they can so chances are we're never going to see him do anything worth talking about or at least talking about in a positive way.

We're getting Buu and Piccolo as major characters in the next arc so at least some characters managed to stay relevant but it's a shame that Gohan was the one who they picked to walk all over but it could've been worse, it could've been Vegeta instead.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
