Toriyama needs to reboot Dragon Ball Z

Post by YamchaLover69 » Sat Dec 19, 2015 12:15 am

He or someone else needs to write a reboot so that the human characters are capable of fighting and live a happy life, have the Saiyans have less screen time and get Wharf affected 50% of the time, Bulma needs to be nice, and Goku needs to be more caring about his family, especially the writers need to show respect towards Chi Chi and have her be useful besides being a baby dispencer for Gohan, and last but not least, I want my favorite character Yamcha, to be relevant and have enough screen time, get married and be happy, and have a legendary werewolf transformation. Oh I just loooooooooooooooooove Yamcha so much. He is my favorite character. <3

No. Dragon Ball is fine as is and to change it would be to turn it into something it isn't. Also reboots are stupid and pointless if the product it's remaking was never really bad to begin with.

Can you imagine DBZ with Super's animation? God no, let's leave well enough alone.

Kai was as close to a "reboot" as you'll get anyway.

I agree, if your going to change it into something it's not and completely overhaul all character traits and characterization, then it isn't Dragon Ball anymore. Let the past be the past so we can usher in new material. If we are going to reboot anything, it should be GT so that we would get a better understanding of SSJ4 and what its true name was to be. :D

ROF give other characters their chance to fight before Goku and Vegeta show up. Krillin, Roshi, Jaco, Gohan, Piccolo and Tien all took down Freeza's soldiers. The 2008 Jump Special also give Goten and Trunks to fight the main villains instead just Goku. We also have Piccolo, Buu and a new fighter joining the U6 tournament. I feel like people are over reacting by saying that only Goku and Vegeta have screen time now.

While DBZ was letting characters NOT-named Goku/Vegeta actually defeat main villains. Piccolo with Raditz, Gohan with Vegeta & Cell. There was a ton more team-work and involvement from everyone. Super/new-movies only use other characters either on fodder enemies or to show how much Goku/Vegeta are needed to do stuff.

Hopefully U6 fixes this, but so far it has been simply sub-par compared to Z when it comes to plotting the big battles and action sequences, way too predictable Goku/Vegeta stage shows.

Toriyama says that he dosen't like human characters except for Krillin which I don't think it's fair. :(

By the time Super is finished you'll have a very long story full of adventures and characters spread across at least 4 series, 13 movies, 3 TV specials& 3 OVA's so you can see there's a sense of history behind this franchise which is the best thing about long running anime/manga so rebooting it will take that history away.

Akira Toriyama never wrote Dragon Ball Z, he wrote Dragon Ball. It doesn't need a reboot, this stuff doesn't work like that and the manga is pretty much perfect. Yamcha is useless because someone needs to be and humans were important for almost half of the manga. Universe is bigger than just Earth.

Is it rude for me to ask if this is a joke thread? There isn't a single point in the original post I am not vehemently against, and while that could just be because I am a different person, but it's suspicious when all the bullet points raise red flags. I mean, there isn't even a reasonable complaint thrown in there to clean up the trail.

Reboot? Hell no. Fix plot holes and explain them? Hell yes.

I'd love a reboot, but not by Toriyama. Let the man continue the story if he wants, let someone new have a shot with the characters and the setting by making a completely different version without running the risk of fucking up everything.

But hasn't the franchise been rebooted a couple of times already? Or, at least, alternate versions of the story exist. The Dragon Ball films, Path to Power and DB Evolution.

Where did he say he disliked human characters?

A. The "Z" title in this title thread needs to be droppe because this series is Dragon Ball itself.
B. The OP has no clue what he is talking about. Goku is fine a main character in the series.
C. And for the record, Super would eventually retcon GT.

Rebooting is silly no matter if people hate that the Saiyans they are main characters that's what Dragon Ball has become now, just like how the bat family has become part of the Bat mythos and why DC never rebooted Batman, there is no point don't try and fix what isn't broke.

It pretty much has. Even before Super came out, fans felt like the new movies and GT can't fit with each other.

It wasn't a reboot but it isn't in the same continuity as the previous story so you could say it's a mixture of both, They started over but they kept what made the previous incarnation so good.

So if DB got rebooted it would probably be the same as it is now cause they won't want to get rid of what's selling the franchise and I think we can all agree that Yamcha isn't a selling point for it so he would either have the same role as he does now or not be in it at all.

I wouldn't like a reboot but maybe something like Earth One? An alternate take on the universe that shares a lot of the same elements but shows them with a twist or from a new angle, could be a really cool, different perspective on the new universe. Plus you'd avert the fanboy pissing and moaning about erasing everything from before.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.
