It lead. He would always come back stronger.
And now he's as strong as Goku. No one said the journey would be easy.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Vegeta's humiliation had him strive to become stronger and ultimately led to him changing as a person.

But at least Vegeta was always acting like an ass beforehand. It felt like karma. Gohan hasn't done anything to deserve being humiliated. All he's been doing is following his dreams, and the story is actively punishing him for it.
I could have gotten into anything...and yet I chose the story aimed at young Japanese boys about martial arts, and later about super-powerful aliens punching each other really hard.

Yeah, following his dream of a mediocre life.
He should know better by then that the Earth and the very existence WILL be threatened again, like it was in the past, and that he has to prepare.
Throwing away your gift as a strongest fighter, protector of the Galaxy, for the sake of 1/2 people is insanely selfish.
It's like Albert Einstein playing video games all day instead of doing Physics and then crying when he can't figure out relativity.

It always lead to something better for him.

After he was humiliated by Freeza he reached Ssj and saved Goku from #19.
After he was humiliated by #18 he reached Assj and beat Cell up before transforming.
After he was humiliated by Cell he reached Ssj2 and finally got his rematch with Goku.
After failing to kill Buu he gave up his life to save Trunks which was one of the best scenes in the franchises.
After admitting that Goku was stronger then him he managed to tap into a power stronger then Goku's when Bulma got hit but he still couldn't do much to Beerus.
After training with Whis he was finally able to close the gap between him and Goku and got to do what he always wanted to do, humiliate Freeza.
Although he defeated Freeza he wasn't able to kill him but now he's in a Universal tournament and will get to fight one of the strongest warriors from U6 who could be a Saiyan prince like him.

So as you can see, when something bad happens to Vegeta there's always something better waiting for him around the corner.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

I think no one likes Gohan unless he rekt and stomp his opponenets in one side fights.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

I don't think that's it. People just don't want to see everything that was built up regarding his character during Z discarded at the drop of a hat.

What exactly was built up though besides him getting strong? The Cell arc has absolutely no allusions to Gohan "taking over" or Goku "passing the torch". Goku just throws the kid into the deep end of a pool because he's a bad father and is banking on Gohan's God given ability to rage out which is the only reason Gohan ever gets anything done.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

Damn, you guys here really love abiding by the "manga law" huh? No worries, I don't judge, but I tell ya, this is why I prefer the anime over the manga, cuz it at least builds up some events.

Anyways, for me, yes and no. While I do think he should still fight, because to me that's good character development regarding his character, I now understand that he ain't really a fighter, as he does have the soft side of his mother. But still, I think people have a right to complain about Gohan's character in Buu and beyond, because after that mollywhopping he did to Cell, you don't think people don't wanna see more?

I've said this many times now, but if Toriyama knew that he doesn't have anymore ideas to write, then he should've either choose somebody else to be the protagonist of the Buu saga, or just ended the series after Cell.

No offense, but you seem kinda, and I'm trying to word this in the most polite way possible, kinda bitter that people don't like what you like. I see you complaining about people holding Toriyama in a higher regard than Toei, and Kikuchi in a higher regard than Faulconer and now this. We're no elitists, you know.

*shrug* Everyone can be an elitist in some form.

Lemme explain here, I never said Toei is better than Toriyama, all I said was that I think the whole "when author does it, it's automatically gold" theory exists in this fanbase too.

As pointed out, many times Vegeta was humiliated and it lead to something here. He's currently the second leading character and that started with his humiliation in BoG (or the Boo arc, depending on your POV)! Furthermore, even when that humiliation didn't lead directly into something good for him, he still got something good later on.

IE, whenever he was knocked down, he was able to get back up on his feet. So it wasn't a problem for him to get knocked down again.

Gohan hasn't been getting that. He's knocked down once, then knocked down again, and he isn't allowed back up. It just makes it seem meaningless for it to occur repeatedly without anything to break it up. RF and Super each had him beat up a Freeza minion as a Super Saiyan, so obviously there was some attempt to give him something, but it really fell flat because it wasn't an impressive moment at all. Nothing resembling progress for the character, but instead briefly showing him get a little closer to the power he'd already lost. He's never been able to get back up to where he fell from before the next time he's brought down again.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!
