Roshi beating up Freeza soldiers in ROF - not a problem

Post by coola » Sat Dec 19, 2015 12:16 pm

I've read, that here are some people, that have problem with Roshi being able to fight with Freeza soldiers, for me personally, i don't find jumping from 139 to about 5000-10000 in almost 20 year that much surprising, Roshi could just keep training. :)

Most of Frieza's soldiers on F arc/movie are quite useless anyways, even in Frieza arc some of them couldn't even use ki. It's obvious that Roshi at full power can handle them for a while since he can destroy a moon in this state.

Freeza himself said that his army became a joke. Roshi can take some of them.
I just got disappointed how they brought Roshi and left Yamcha behind.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Roshi fighting is only a problem for me when superior fighters like Chiaotzu and Yamcha got left behind for basically no reason at all. That and the entire section is pointless since the army is a total non factor to the overall scheme of things and it has de-power everyone just to contrive some weak "tension".

As much as I like Yamucha and Chaozu, and it drove me crazy seeing them left behind for no legitimate reason, even if we ignore that, taking the Muten Roshi over Goten? Trunks? # Flippin' 18?! It's patently absurd!

It's actually moments like that that make me wish Toriyama hadn't made ki-sensing so all-powerful. Then you could have an arbitrary set of characters show up for any given crisis because you could just say certain characters didn't know about it.

Roshi put up a fight in DBZ movie 2 and the bio warriors seem much stronger then Freeza's men. Yet no one bitch about that  . Fans wanted other characters to get a spot light again and they did. Now they bitch about how Goten and Trunks didn't fight in the movie when they already had a major role in the 2008 Jump Special. Not to mention Super had Gotenks join the fight against Freeza anyways.

Movie 2 is a side story that has no bearing on anything. Other characters doing something that keeps their strength levels consistent and something that matters isn't asking for much, and no, killing mooks who will have 0 impact on the overall outcome isn't important. Lastly, Goten and Trunks are just there for a crotch joke, that's it. Freeza seems them, has a flashback then they do nothing until Goku tells them to (rightfully) piss off out of there.

I know everyones loves to prop up DBs simplicity, but when it can't even keep things like some power consistency or find half-decent ways to utilize its cast, the simplicity comes off less as a choice and as Toriyama saying "I cannot be arsed to put any effort into anything." Which is what he did for F, he blatantly admits the movie doesn't even have a script and laughs at the fact.

Better the characters stay weak rather than have it become like One Piece/Bleach/Fairy Tail etc.

The soldiers Roshi took on probably weren't more than 100 or 200 each, and he could easily have reached a quadruple digit power level by then. Besides, he was exhausted after fighting them.

Most of Freeza's soldiers in ROF were weaklings, they got taken out by a giant fish for crying out loud. Besides, any reason for Master Roshi returning to kick ass again is more than welcome from me anyway.

The reason the giant snake was so much trouble for Goten and Trunks was because it had eaten all the talking animals the Dragon Ball world and which lead to its battle power growing immensely. That giant snake was no ordinary giant snake. It was Super Perfect Giant Snake.

It's not hard to believe he's been training in the background for 20 years. Makes me wonder how things would have been if he trained with Kami.

No one asked for Roshi to be in the spotlight again, his character arc was seeing his students rise to glory, and retiring. People asked for the other characters to be on the spotlight, and they didn't get it, so poor example.

I wanted to see Muten Roshi in action again, and his scenes/presence are one of my favourite parts of the film by fair. It's been so long since we've seen Daiamo arc-Roshi, so it was fun to see him take charge and try to do his bit. Does it make sense that Yamucha, Chaotzu, and 18 weren't there too? Not really, and it would've been nice. But I found his hand-to-hand combat style a breath of fresh air, so I really appreciate that he was the one chosen =)

And to be fair, they do make a point to show that he's the first one out of breath and really feeling the strain of battle.

Its rather obvious Roshi was only there because Toriyama likes him and for nostalgia.

I personally have no issues with Roshi being there, I'm actually glad to have him there. My only qualms is leaving people out and my only wishes that came from Roshi's inclusion were 1) Roshi rides into battle atop a fully grown Baby Gamera...who would basically be Gamera at that point! 2) Roshi having fun moments where he's literally teaching Krillin & Yamcha (If he was included.) a lesson mid battle "Krillin! Put more weight into your punches and don't forget to bend your knees! You're losing half your power with that stance! See? LIKE THIS!" or something like that. And 3) Roshi, Krillin and Yamcha (Again, if he was included.) standing in a line performing a Turtle School Kamehameha. Its not Roshi's inclusion that grinds my gears, its the missed potential that having him there would offer.
Going on hiatus. Too much stuff in RL to deal with for me to keep up with posts here for now. Was fun, hope you all have a nice day and future! Volt signing off.

When DBS fans start making wild rationalisations like this... I find it hard to take what they say very seriously. I know we all love Dragonball but there has to come a time when you look at things objectively and say to yourself "this is stupid".

Anyway, realistically I can't see the benefits of training being that great to an old guy like Roshi. He's obviously not a young man anymore so the idea of him making vast gains now in old age just seems kind of ridiculous to me. Didn't Goku and Vegeta basically kill themselves in the DBO story once they were past their peak? Why wouldn't human fighters also suffer from old age? It makes no sense.

I can believe Freeza would bring some low level goons within Roshi's level and maybe he could take on 2 or 3 of them but in the movie he's shown to be fighting hoards of them by himself, I don't buy it personally. Fanservice shouldn't trump basic logic. At least have Yamcha and Chaozu fighting with him if you're going to throw him in there.

I would agree with this statement even with yamcha being the sucky fighter in DBZ I'm sure he could be able to take down Freeza's men without no problem.

Freeza's army being so weak is especially weird for Super because Tagoma made huge gains in power. Its weird that Freeza wouldn't think to see if anyone else amongst his troops could pull off something like it. But then again Super!Freeza wanted to kill Krillin to purposefully agitate Goku again so....
