Smartest character in the series?
Everyone always argues about the strongest character, but what about the smartest?
Some candidates (I can't find the poll option):
- Bulma
- Dr. Gero
- Cell
- Elder Kaioshin
- Whis
- Shenron
- Porunga
- Piccolo
- Kami
- Namekian Grand Elder
- Vados
Or anyone else you have in mind?

It's Zuno.
Re: Smartest character in the series?
Smart, in what sense? Seems like there are two types of smart here: has a lot of arcane/ancient knowledge or can cobble up physics altering science with a box of parts in a cave. Dr. Brief is also missing.
Cell, though: how is he smart in either sense?

Battle smarts:
Overall smart in every way : Zen buu from DBM (He has absorbed every type of smart people)
- Goku
Vegeta
Piccolo
Super buu
- Piccolo
Super buu
Krillin
- Gero
Bulma
Dr Brief
- Kami
Guru
Old Kaioshin

TBH, I don't think cell (atleast after achieving perfection) has shown being smart in any way. But before achieving perfection, he's shown to be really smart, in the sense he escaped piccolo, hid his ki, absorbed #17, tricked vegeta into letting him be perfect.irreality wrote:

I agree its probably Zuno, as far a wisdom and knowledge go.

He is described to be omniscient but I shall make a bet that this statement will become false.Retan wrote:I agree its probably Zuno, as far a wisdom and knowledge go.
But until then I possibly have Akira Toriyama(Tori-bot) as the smartest in his good days when he doesn't forget things.

Re: Smartest character in the series?
I'm surprised nobody has said Vegetto. He did trick Boohan into absorbing him so he could save the other people he absorbed.
Re: Smartest character in the series?
I would argue it's either Bulma or Freeza. I don't count knowledge, but basically how the characters manage to survive difficult situations with less resources.
Bulma provides almost everything the heroes need and she used Beerus and Whis' taste for food in order to keep Beerus from destroying the Earth.
Freeza would be smart enough to win the battle on Earth if Whis didn't intervene.
Cell also has the potential to be pretty smart, but he is far too gifted. He defeated Gohan's arrogance, but was defeated by his own arrogance.
Perhaps I'm forgetting someone.

Every time I think of wise, I think of Kami for some reason, maybe because he was one of the first very wise being introduced in the series.
Whis is up there in terms of knowledge as well.
But the obvious answer is Zuno, though he hasn't even been introduced in the Anime yet.
Maybe later on in Super there will be another being that has the ultimate knowledge of everything in all of the 12 universes in this series. He will be the Kami of all Kami's lol.

Re: Smartest character in the series?
What about Gohan? I always thought that he was pretty smart, maybe not as smart as Piccolo or Gero, but, the kid knew trigonometry at age four. He has to have some brains.
Majin Buu: So, hotshot, you want to fight Majin Buu?
Gohan: Fight you? No. I want to kill you.
Gohan: Now I'll show you why my little brother looks up to me.
Majin Buu: He doesn't. In fact, he wonders why you let me absorb him.
Future Gohan: You cannot gain without first suffering the pain of loss.
Gohan: 16, you loved life. You gave everything up to save it. And you were just an Android. I let you die...I can't do that...I won't watch anymore. I...I feel it slipping. And I won't watch this anymore!
Goku: Gohan! You've got to take Cell down now before he can regenerate!
Gohan: Take him down now? No, I think I'll wait. I'm going to let him suffer for a little while.

Re: Smartest character in the series?
Probably Bulma, though she's not always smart when it's convenient. An example: When she wanted to watch the androids fight Goku and crew WHILE SHE HAD BABY TRUNKS IN HER ARMS. Stupidest non-Goku thing in the whole franchise.

Re: Smartest character in the series?
Zarama is supposed to be able to grant any wish, which means he could know everything. So him I guess.

Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

There different ways of being smart, but overall, I'd say Piccolo. Sometime he feels like the only one with any common sense in Dragon Ball.

There's different facets to intelligence. You have academic genius types like Bulma, the philosophical erudite kind like Kami, then there's the tactical fighting insight. The overall most intelligent prize would have to go to Zuno since his wisdom is universally understood.
I don't know why Vegeta and Piccolo are ranked so highly yet someone like Krillin's name goes largely unacknowledged except for one mention. He's displayed just as much ingenuity and craftiness as any of them. Most of Piccolo's "smart moments" in a fight occur primarily during the Saiyan arc where they consisted mostly of diversionary tactics courtesy of someone else being the target of the enemy. And I'm not even sure why Vegeta is listed up close to the top -- apart from a bluff or two his approach to fighting has largely consisted of rushing the enemy and pummeling them. Now when it comes to war games he's not too bad. He makes a decent grand strategist.
