So has Champa's team members been named yet?
He devolved into saying only one word. Time to hit the ol' cosmic trail.
Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
Ok, I'm just going to come out and say it, you guys are giving Toriyama waaayyyyy too much credit in this. Who said he's writing this because all I heard was that he gave them a brief summary of things and went over preestablished scenarios and designs. All the characters words and actions aren't from him at all. I think this would be apparent especially since Super manga is already detouring from the anime greatly in events. So I don't think this has nothing to do with him not liking Gohan (how did you even think of that is beyond me). I also don't think your logic holds well for any literary work. A writer should be able to write all their characters and interactions well not just go, "well I don't like this person anymore, so I'll just make him disappear."dbzfan7 wrote:
Well it's simply Toriyama not wanting to write for Gohan. It seems like that's what's been going on behind things. Writing Gohan not even showing up is probably the best example of not wanting to write for the character. Say he's off doing something so you can ignore him. It's probably better he write for people he likes, rather than try and write for people he doesn't. He did that, and we got the horrible horrendous Goku and Chi Chi relationship.
I think their relationship is interesting and under appreciated. It's more or less mocked now a days. Simply it's better to stick to writing for characters you're passionate about, rather than force yourself to write for those that don't excite you, and make more mediocre material. Too bad Super is still mediocre anyways.
Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
The Super Manga is by Toyotaro and not Toriyama. The manga is simply an advertisement for the anime. Toriyama also didn't seem to like Chaozu, and quickly got rid of him as he really had no idea what to do with him. When I say he doesn't like Gohan, I mean writing for Gohan. As a character I don't really know. It's clear he doesn't as Gohan isn't around to be developed or having anything important done with him. He's merely around as an established character and that's about it.Brettjr25 wrote:Ok, I'm just going to come out and say it, you guys are giving Toriyama waaayyyyy too much credit in this. I'd say it holds pretty soundly as a writer can very easily get bored of a character they're writing and want to not bother with them any more. He didn't have much interesting things for the humans, so he didn't give them much of anything to do as time went by. He especially was quick to throw away Chaozu. It's perfectly normal for a writer to be disinterested in some of their characters and rather move on to others. Lots of characters stopped developing or doing anything over time as he simply didn't have much to give them, or simply wasn't interested in using said character.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
Am I crazy for thinking Toriyama is going to make Gohan the strongest character once more? This pushing around of Gohan isn't done for no reason. Toriyama isn't IGNORING Gohan, he's GOING OUT OF HIS WAY to show his weakness due to lack of training (he did this to some degree after Cell Saga).
Hints:
- Piccolo dies to save him. He regrets not training and feeling completely helpless, and realizes the importance of training.
- In the manga, Vegeta mentions Gohan has biggest hidden potential out of any character, when they're picking characters for the tournament.
- When they're going to the tournament, everyone is there except for Gohan who is in a "conference". EVEN VIDEL was there.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
A lot of this can be pinned on Toei and not Toriyama potentially. As far as things seem, there isn't any plan to do anything with him. Marketing further shows only Goku, Vegeta, Beerus, and Whis. I'm pretty sure all these "hints" are merely Toei making things up.DragonHermit wrote:Am I crazy for thinking Toriyama is going to make Gohan the strongest character once more? What do these hints have to do with Toei? I'm talking about the manga... Only the first one has potentially something have to do with Toei.
Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
The manga doesn't really hint at anything. Seems more to me simply another case in a similar vein of "I left Chaozu at home." I think it's pretty much the same thing here. Gohan is off doing something not important the readers don't need to care about, but they're at least told where he is.DragonHermit wrote:What do these hints have to do with Toei? Goku was never th3 best father but he was never this bad of a family man. I feel Toriyama is writing Goku like this now to prove his point on Goku is selfish and a doesn't value family.
Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
I don't consider Goku a family man in any regard. He feels more like just a big kid who happens to have a family. He acts like how a child would when it comes to his family treatment. Vegeta simply doesn't care for the most part about earthly customs so his lack of care more stems from how he is as a Saiyan. Though Vegeta still has more of a traditional kind of love with Bulma and Trunks where he does have that fatherly care. Goku seems more like the everyone is just one of his best friends kind of person. Chi Chi is a close friend. Gohan is a close friend. That's how their relationship seems to be to him. Goku never feels like much of a father or husband since he never acts like one. He's a man child.miguelnuva1 wrote:Goku was never th3 best father but he was never this bad of a family man. I still don't understand why the pilaf gang are there? There not even funny and doesn't bring anything new to the table of all the people tori could've brought back ie: launch or android 17 he brought these clowns
Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
I'd take pretty much anyone over them. I'd take Idasa and his family over the Pilaf gang. They'd both share being equally pointless.pacz360 wrote:I still don't understand why the pilaf gang are there? Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
Finally got to properly read the manga with portuguese translation.
I liked how Bulma and Jaco wasted 3 questions
I don't particularly like the way they've been handling Goku lately. He acts waaaay more childish than before. Not that he wasn't childish before, but here in Super he seems more dumb than always, like when he had the conversation with Vegeta in the RoSaT. It's like he's clueless and can't have a proper conversation.
Nice designs for the U6 Kaioshins, Zuno-sama and the 5 U6 fighters. I'm mostly interested in the purple one and in the Mini-Gohan one. The Freeza race one also looked cool, but his background is more interesting to me than his design. The bear and the robot, meh, okay.
Good chapter, can't wait for the next one. I'm curious about how the written test will be, the interactions between U6 and U7 fighters and the fights themselves.

Yes, they've been named. Their names are Hit (The Purple Guy), Cabba (The Small Saiyan), Frost (The Freeza Clone), Botamo (The Big Yellow Bear) and Magetta (The Mecha).kidhero1000 wrote:So has Champa's team members been named yet?

No, Those aren't confirmed yet. They came from a single Twitter user that I showed Herms over on Twitter during Jump Festa. But there's been nothing more about them. That disclaimer should be mentioned.Lord Beerus wrote:Yes, they've been named. We get another DB Multiverse story but now from Toryiama, big disappointment.

I thought multiverse was about alternate story, character of the original story ,while u6 is a twin of u7 not an alternate what if story._FutureTrunks_ wrote:We get another DB Multiverse story but now from Toryiama, big disappointment.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
DB Multiverse and Universe 6 saga don't have anything in common expect for they are tournaments set against each other in a multiverse. DBM is just other DBZ characters from other universes while the U6 fighters are brand new and original. Besides DBM is fan fiction while this is the first time DB has ever done this._FutureTrunks_ wrote:We get another DB Multiverse story but now from Toryiama, big disappointment.

Well, it's the "New" Room of Spirit and Time according to the narrator, based on the translation that seems to be commonly posted around.eledoremassis02 wrote:How were goku and vegeta able train in the room of spirit and time for 3 days? Wasnt there a limit?
The manga hardly had any family moments in the first place though. Most of the ones you're thinking about likely came from the anime. Really, in the Cell Saga, there's even that bit about Piccolo understanding Gohan better than Goku, in spite of Goku having just trained one year alongside Gohan in the RoSaT.miguelnuva1 wrote:Goku was never th3 best father but he was never this bad of a family man. Goku's negative reaction to Gohan not going to meet him is odd, but that had never happened before either though. In spite of his absences, Gohan was always there waiting for him with open arms, this is the first time Gohan just doesn't show up for one of these reunions.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
I'm dying of curiosity to know 3 things:
Is the Saiyajin a girl or a boy?
The Freeza race guy's background
The Purple Guy's personality. He looks very interesting.

Re: Super's manga by Toyotarō
Mine are probably:
-Who is Mystery Saiyan?
-Are the rumored names real or fake?
-Does the send-up to Winnie the Pooh end with the character design of that bear or does he talk/act like Pooh or have a penchant for "hunny"?
