Toyotaro does a great job with this manga and it's been my favorite part of the rebirth of Dragonball.
Also I gotta admit I'm a little worried about my man Hit, after, and, as he does sorta look like a purple Piccolo from Evolution, and that may be Toriyama's plan, to have him be a one punch and K.O'd character. Kinda to stick it to Fox (How that would annoy anyone is beyond me other then the fans who like his design).
I hope and doubt this will be the case but then again for some reason, I wouldn't put it past the man.
Now someone slap me and tell me not to be stupid.

DragonHermit wrote:Am I crazy for thinking Toriyama is going to make Gohan the strongest character once more? This pushing around of Gohan isn't done for no reason. Toriyama isn't IGNORING Gohan, he's GOING OUT OF HIS WAY to show his weakness due to lack of training (he did this to some degree after Cell Saga).
Hints:
- Piccolo dies to save him. He regrets not training and feeling completely helpless, and realizes the importance of training.
- In the manga, Vegeta mentions Gohan has biggest hidden potential out of any character, when they're picking characters for the tournament.
- When they're going to the tournament, everyone is there except for Gohan who is in a "conference". EVEN VIDEL was there.
Regardless of how much Toriyama is influencing the story here, the events in the anime and what we've now seen in the manga certainly do allow fans every right to be suspicious. I suppose it might be worth waiting for the anime version of the events you mentioned to see what's added/changed since the manga is jumping around quite a bit.
Frost looks like he's straight up been ripped from Dragon Ball Heroes' Froze

Sounds like little bit of wishful thinking and a whole lot of bluster
He devolved into saying only one word. Time to hit the ol' cosmic trail.
I wonder whats going to happen in the next chapter,do you think they will show who's gonna win in the first fight or the chapter ends with announcing who will fight who and how the tournament works ?

Toriyama also didn't seem to like Chaozu, and quickly got rid of him as he really had no idea what to do with him. When I say he doesn't like Gohan, I mean writing for Gohan. As a character I don't really know. It's clear he doesn't as Gohan isn't around to be developed or having anything important done with him. He's merely around as an established character and that's about it.
I'd say it holds pretty soundly as a writer can very easily get bored of a character they're writing and want to not bother with them any more. He didn't have much interesting things for the humans, so he didn't give them much of anything to do as time went by. He especially was quick to throw away Chaozu. It's perfectly normal for a writer to be disinterested in some of their characters and rather move on to others. Lots of characters stopped developing or doing anything over time as he simply didn't have much to give them, or simply wasn't interested in using said character.
Even so, him not being there for the sake of not bothering with him doesn't make sense. There's definitely something going on. Like other people have said, even Bulma's parents are there and no one thinks they are more relevant than Gohan. They/Toriyama could just have him there and not give him any lines if the intention was for him to not have any role.

Could simply be so Goku can get upset for a quick gag. That sounds perfectly in line with Toriyama. Following current trends and marketing, nothing really suggests this means anything. Unless as I predict, it means he's beaten or killed off screen to set up the next arc. Not to say people can't speculate there's something up, but I highly doubt that.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Doctor. wrote:I've explained before, I'll just paraphrase myself.
Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.
I'm still guessing that the Saiyan on Champa's team is Uni 6 Gohan and he's considered the strongest of all Saiyans in that Uni. I can see Toriyama pulling something like that. Make Gohan seem pathetic early on and in our Universe, only to have Uni6 have some OP Gohan that kicks butt lol.

I sincerely hope that is not true. Have Uni7 Gohan became as lame as possible, only to have a badass Gohan in Uni6 doesn't work for me. Either upgrade our Gohan or don't bother with a counterpart. Same with that Feeza guy. I hope he turns out to be different from all the other of his race, we saw so far.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

With all due respect, but how is Hit "your man"? I mean he only appeared once in the Manga, never said anything anything in the Manga yet, and hasn't appeared in the Anime yet.
Little premature to be calling him your favorite character but all good nonetheless. Again, I meant no disrespect.

I second this. I still want to hope that if Uni 6 does move beyond the tournament and into an actual adventure arc that Gohan will get to be involved/do stuff. I don't want Mystery Saiyan to just be a "cooler" Gohan.
I hope Mystery Saiyan is either his own character or if he has to be someone's counterpart to make him a Uni 6 Vegeta.
Are we too old to enjoy new Dragon Ball movies/series?

Guys, I'm going to be straight with you. If you feel the show has gotten 'silly' ... it hasn't. You're just 'too old for this shit'. Seriously, 95% of the people in those boards do not fit the target demographic of the show, so don't expect the show to be 'everything you hoped for'. I'm referring to the people here who expect Super to be rich with dark moments, serious storytelling, meaningful characters etc etc. It won't. It's a show for kids. A show for kids being kids. Everyone in those boards has a manchild in him/her, clamoring to get out, and that's fine. But having unrealistic expectations (such as believing the show grew up alongside you) is naïve at best. Honestly, do you take seriously a story where the supposed God of Destruction halts his urges to blow up stuff in order to eat ice cream sundae? That's the show's silliness at full force, take it for what it is. The show hasn't matured one bit, so don't expect it too. Again, I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I'm saying *that* is DB and always will be.
No one has talked about it but I was wondering what the relationship between the U6 team members is like. Are they U6 Z Warriors? Are they rivals? Are they strangers? Have they fought previously?

What do you think?
I think they are strongest warriors from universe 6 put together as a team by Champa and Vados.
