Share your thoughts on Super as the year comes to a close.

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. Despite the fact Dragon Ball Super has inflicted some abhorrent animation(episode 5 will never disappear), digital animation, terrible fight choreography, monotonous dialogue and basically wasted the first 2/3 of the new series doing a sub-par retelling of the more superior movies (which when all these factors are considered together is absolutely inexcusable) I am reminded of one simple fact.

My Ladies,
Since July 4th every Sunday for past 5 months I have watched a new episode of Dragon Ball after an 18 year absence. Regardless of all the short sighted mistakes and inexcusable torture I am thankful and grateful for this. Dragon Ball Super is better than no content at all and that alone makes all its inadequacies not so bad.

Besides Super is better than GT.

Memorable.
That amazing princess-catch, the heartbreaking failed hand-hold teleport and Gokû trying not to flip out, Gokû's Kool-aid Man style wall breaking, takoyaki chef Vegeta, all the aprons, Gokû plus cellphone equals?, Beerus' has his own hot springs, Vegeta-senpai, Whis making Gokû and Vegeta room together in a tiny dorm, tractor drama, tractor comedy, Vegeta's Family Vacation, Whis' many reaction faces, it's raining pizza boxes.

Even with the way the animation's been going, I'm still having a lot of fun with the writing in Super.
On hiatus.

For all of Super's bad episodes and bad animation, the series had always managed to put out a fantastic episode to even things out. In that regard, it is doing what every Dragon Ball anime has ever done. It's kinda metaphorical for how the whole series is: when it's bad, it's shit, but when it's good, it's phenomenal.
Retelling the movies? BoG arc was great, FnF not so much. You win some, you lose some. I think what they should have done is have all these episodes dedicated to Freeza actually go to the Champa material in the manga + more details on the Whis training with a flashback from the movie in one of them, but oh well.

There is new Dragon Ball that I can enjoy every week. Why would I compromise my chances to enjoy it by nitpicking everysingle detail/frame/scene? If I did that, nothing would ever come out as being good. I just follow my gut, as a guy who watched Dragon Ball since he was 4, and that gut tells me DBS is good. Is it great? No. But is it trash? Or worse than GT? Not even close.

Super so far for me has been nothing but a crappy retailing of much better products we just got not too long ago. The only thing I seem to enjoy is the slice of life episodes, everything else has been pretty forgettable... I really don't see myself re-watching any of the episodes of Super anytime soon. If I want to watch BoG I'll watch the film because it to me is just all around superior & if for some odd reason I would watch revival of F again I would also watch the film of that because between the two lumps of excrement the film version is "better"...

The way things are now I guess the only thing to look forward to in the U6 arc is a good story...

I give it a 6.5/10 so far.Mainly because its a retelling of previous movies with inferior fighting and animation.

The slice of life episodes are the best part of the series so far. The comedy has been on its A game so far, its as funny as the best Dragonball episodes IMO.

The movie adaption episodes are a definite low point though. I like some additions to the Freeza part like Ginyu, Goten/Trunks, but its not enough.

A very mixed bag in every regard from music, animation and fights. The retelling of Battle Of Gods was good for the most, but there were still some key elements that were not executed as well as the movie. The Resurrection F retelling has been total bullocks. So many missed opportunities in that arc. The slice of life episodes though have been fantastic.

I've been very critical of Super lately which has certainly lowered my expectations of the upcoming arc, but there have been a few episodes that I've thoroughly enjoyed. I've rewatched each week's episode at least 3 times, so I feel pretty content with these few: 2, 4, 11, 13, 16, and 18. That's six episodes out of 25, and many of them are simply because they either improved on, or expanded on their source material. That's not to say that I've actively hated all of the others (though there are a few), but they're not anything I'd choose to watch over their cinematic counterparts. That's pretty much the big criterion to hit, and unfortunately, many of them simply fail to deliver.

As the year comes to a close, I can't help but feel frustrated with the series as a whole. While the argument that long-running shows are often inconsistent is correct, I don't think it really holds water with Super anymore. Its low are embarrassingly low, and its highs are so mediocre and few and far between. It is unbearably poor by weekly standards, and that's really upsetting as someone who cares a heck of a lot about visuals. This wouldn't be quite as painful if the narrative were delivered in a satisfying manner. Unfortunately, poor direction combined with dissatisfying deviations leaves very little to commend.

I'm deeply worried about Universe 6 and Super's future as a whole. This is not what I expected from the revival of my favourite series on the back of two successful films. Toei have a lot to make up for, but I can't help but think little will change. How depressing it is to think that the return of Toriyama and this legendary voice cast will be wasted due to a company's total disregard for adequate planning. I shouldn't feel apathetic about more Dragon Ball.

I was expecting a worse Battle of Gods and a better F, with some very nice, memorable or interesting new scenes in the middle. And, for the most part, that's what I got. I hated some episodes, I loved some episodes. I don't really find it, so far, any different than any of the other anime series in the franchise, but I'm more of a manga person anyway, so I may not notice what's so different about Super that everyone else does. I had my expectations low and Super hasn't managed to surprise me, except for episodes 6 and 11, but it hasn't managed to insult me either. I didn't WANT more Dragon Ball, I wanted it dead, but I'm enjoying the ride while it lasts.

Pros:

- Great funny character moments
- Good to see Dragon Ball return back to funny gags
- We get some character development for other characters
- There are good well animated episodes. Not everything in this show is awful as some people over hype up to be.
- BOG arc did give us some cool fights which something that the movie did lacked
- Cool to see Ginyu come back
- Decent music score
- U6 looks really cool and I have high hopes for it

Cons:

- There is some really bad animation and most episodes can look meh at best. At least Episode 5 was fixed.
- Took way too long for BOG to be done and over with
- The last few episodes since Goku has return have been really boring

Overall Super is a decent show. If you haven't seen the movies then you may enjoy Super. However I do just recommended seeing the slice of life episodes if you seen the movies already. I think Super should have just started in January 2016 and do a 5 minute recap on BOG and ROF to catch up people. I would have Digimon Tri be a TV series taking over Dragon Ball Kai's timeslot until January. I give the show a C for now. This is how I would rated the DB series from A to F.

DB: B+
DBZ: C+
DBS: C
DBGT: D

I love the changes the made to RF's story but other then that it's been a very disappointing show that'll hopefully improve once we move into the U6 arc.

Now that it's been around 6 months and 2015 is over, I wish Super never existed. I'd prefer a Dragon Ball movie every 2/3 year. I will never get used to the artwork and animation of DBS.

The manga is wonderful, and I cannot emphasize that enough.

The Super anime? I am very ambivalent about it. In some moments, namely the original material, it can be a great watch with scenes surpassing what DBZ gave us. That said, all the retellings are barely watchable. I find myself fast-forwarding to the new scenes. So my hopes are high for Champa precisely because original material is what Super does well.

The things I like from Super are the comedy moments and a few good ideas here and there, as well as a some of the music tracks that sound pretty good, especially the opening. The things I don't like are the fact that the series is a poorly done retelling of BoG and RF, the overall below-average animation and some of the music sounding awful and unfitting for the world of Dragon Ball, why isn't Sumitomo using the same musical style of Kikuchi's work on DB&Z and Yamamoto's work on Kai?

The Universe 6 story arc can't come sooner, I can't want to see a story by Toriyama told in a serialised format just like his manga days, also I'm glad that BoG and RF exist and this show isn't the only way to experience their stories, roll on January 24th is all I'm thinking.

For all of it's issues, I'm still completely and utterly amazed that I'm yet again watching a new, a truly new (well, okay, it's still adapting the last two films, but that's still a lot newer than anything Kai gave us) Dragon Ball series in 2015. I haven't posted a lot about my thoughts in the episodic threads since, by the time I get around to seeing the new episodes, most everyone is kind of talked out or just settled into complaining rather than talking about the things they do like about it. By and large though? I'm enjoying it. It will probably be far less enjoyable when marathoned (the Battle of Gods arc really dragged quite a bit when I did a re-watch to get prepared for the current arc), but piecemeal, week by week, it's been fine. The animation could be better, but I've seen worse (at least to me) as well. The only scenes I've seen that really gave me concerns were Vegeta's reaction to Bulma being hit (oh dear lord did they way overplay that in Super) and Kuririn's fear of fighting Freeza's soldiers (I get what they were going for, but went just a tad overboard in expressing it). The show is...fine. It's fine, really.

Now, once we get to the new arc, that's when things are really gonna take off for it I think. I can't wait!

I think it's been a good show but disappointing perhaps too often. The animation is the shows lowest point in my opinion.

I wouldn't say there's been many memorable moments in the show yet. I think this latter half of the RoF saga has been the show at its worst up to yet because of how poor the fighting has been done.

Hopefully next year it picks up now we move into new territory.
