Dragon Ball Headscratchers

With all the debates that rage across the Dragon Ball community, besides the power level ones, I thought it would be neat to make a series where I try to take these points of contention and try to explain them using evidence from the manga to back up my own thoughts.

The latest of these concerns just how does Vegeta manage to learn how to both control and sense battle power seemingly out of nowhere upon arriving to Namek:

Well when one is in a space pod for a couple months, one probably has time to think about how it's done, and try to practice... or at least, practice as much as he could in the mangled state he was in. During the trip to Namek, and possibly even during his rejuvination, he could have tried to utilize it, trying to feel out the ki of Freeza's men.

I'd say Vegeta was trying to learn how to sense ki, as soon as he destroys his scouter.
Saiyans are a fighting race, it does make a bit of sense they are much better at picking up on these things, than other races, if they are just exposed to the concepts a bit.
