DON'T PANIC!
While the new bluray release isnt bad at all I still (as well as others) can't get past some of the cropping and such. I don't mind it for kai but givin the aged feel the original series had it's weird (same with the audio quality on the level sets).
If we're not getting 4x3 Dragon Ball Z on bluray can they at least re-release the orange bricks in vain of the blue and green bricks? I think that would be more than fine and would hold me over until (if) we ever get 4x3 on bluray. Plus it would make the brick sets coherent.
Would you support a fixed orange brick release?

Over here in the UK all we have for our DBZ official release is the orange bricks, at this point they could just put some 4:3 DVDs of DBZ in clear plastic packaging and I would buy it. "Can we at least get the unaltered version of DBZ in any way at all?" is what I say! I don't know what's stopping them from just doing a release with Dragon Box (Level Set if possible) footage, putting that footage onto disks and releasing them in standard, inexpensive packaging. Hell, even easier for them, put it on streaming services. I know Netflix has been letting people stream some anime shows recently, I bet DBZ would do well on there alongside DB, DBGT, even Kai.

There is no really any point since Blu-Ray has been the main video format for home video releases for the last few years now. It's 2016, people should have a blu-ray player by now. I can understand not having one in 2007 and 2008 because they where pretty pricey and HD TV's are still trying to catch on. Since its been a decade now, HD TVs are everywhere and you can find ones cheap too. I buy everything on Blu-Ray unless it's not out on Blu-Ray or the Blu-Ray version sucks (like FLCL on Blu-Ray). Bottom line, there's no point when you have Blu-Rays now.

As much as I would love for them to dump out a 4:3 release of DBZ on DVD, that ship has looooong sailed.
At most, we'd see a "barebones" repackaging of the OB discs hitting stores in the future. Most entertainment companies don't bother re-encoding/re-mastering/re-authoring their DVDs, when it'd be easier to pack their existing discs into more economical packaging. Look at any TV series DVD at a Target or Wal-Mart; almost all of those products are older discs just crammed into a slimmer case or something.
Another Blu-Ray release will be the only way we get a "new" mastering of DBZ, I'll bet you.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

If Toei ever does Blu-Rays of DB, DBZ and DBGT then I can see Funimation releasing those as some type of "Special Edition" similar how the Dragon Boxes where.

As much as I'd like to see that, I feel like "modern" Toei would just have their Blu-Rays of original DB/Z/GT released as blurry upscales. They've been doing that recently for a lot of their classic 80's/90's TV shows on Blu-Ray.
Saint Seiya, Slam Dunk, even their HD broadcast for Sailor Moon are all upscales.
So the difference in quality might not even be worth it for most people.

I would take upscales of the Dragon Boxes over the sets from Funimation.

I'm sure it is as a whole, but hardly anyone I know has a Blu-ray player. You might be surprised at how many people still buy and use DVDs, especially people that aren't very tech-savvy.

DVDs still outsell Blu-rays, last time I checked. Blu-rays are aimed more at collectors than a general audience.
Favorite Movies: Alien, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, The Thing, Evil Dead, The Land Before Time

If you have a PS3, PS4, Xbox One or a normal Blu-Ray player then you should able to play blu-rays. I see no point on using DVD's unless there is no other choice when everything is in HD. I still have anime on DVD because they don't have Blu-Ray releases or the Blu-Ray releases for them are bad (FLCL and DBZ). I also own some really rare stuff on DVD too. Anyways, HD TV's are everywhere. I see them in retirement homes now too. I remember that my teched teacher in 2006 said that HD TVs would be everywhere in a decade from now and he was right. I don't think anyone uses older box-type TVs unless they live in their poor country.

I'm not saying that people shouldn't upgrade to Blu-ray, I'm just saying that many haven't. I know lots of people that have an HDTV but don't have a Blu-ray player.

Even worse is the amount of people I've seen who have HDTVs, and watch TV that's connected through composite, or even coaxial, and think it's HD.

What I'm coming at is that we need a 4x3 release that would be retaliy available. Dragonball and gt are dvd only and making a 4x3 dbz would not only make the whole set coherient but it allow people get all of z in the original aspect ratio straight from funi.

Haha. Even my Dad who hardly understands anything technical could tell his HDTV from a few years ago wasn't outputting HD when he had the composite cables plugged in, and then I got him a cheap HDMI cable and he could tell right away the vast improvement.

It's a little off topic of 'new orange bricks', but on the notion of 'everyone should have a Bluray player/know how to hook up HD', I feel like it's worth pointing out that not everyone is as tech savvy as others. I know how to hook up most things, but I'm having a hell of a time getting a new router hooked up, for example. And even going back to HD, not everyone can really tell that much of a difference. Unless it's just a shitty DVD, I generally can't tell the difference between DVD footage and Bluray footage. I literally cannot. They both look good to me, neither any better than the other.
Not to mention that I get a lot of watching stuff done at work, with my portable DVD player. I've yet to see a portable Bluray player, and if they exist they might be pretty pricey. So I've definitely still got a use for DVD's, and unless there's more extras available on the Bluray version (which is nearly always the case nowadays), I'll opt for the DVD version a lot of the time. Usually, if it's an option, I'll go for the DVD/Bluray combo pack.

I would certainly support a new release of DBZ in 4:3 from Funimation. I have the dragon boxes but I've taken care to not damage them in anyway and they never leave my room. Having a 4:3 re-release of DBZ would be great for traveling or lending them out to people. I have some nights at work that are slow and I enjoy putting on DVDs and just letting it play in the background as I do other things, so a general 4:3 re-release would be fantastic.
However, as others have already said, I don't really see it happening. Regardless of whether or not most people have a blu ray player, Funimation knows that their core DBZ market is interested in having the "highest quality" product available, and right now "highest quality" means blu ray. I doubt they'd see it as a worthwhile endeavor, but I certainly hope I'm wrong.
EDIT: let me also clarify because others haven mentioned it as well that in addition to a 4:3 ratio, I'd also like to have the footage without the "remastering" done to it. So no filters, disappearing lines etc.

I wouldn't be interested in an orange brick repackaging/ rerelease in single format, even in 4:3 because they would still have the same issues with oversaturated colours, loss of grain, etc.
I'd like to see a rerelease of the series with Dragon Box footage in singles format or a Level sets reprinting though.

I'd make Toei drown in my vomit if they'd do that!
