What made Heroes so popular?

Post by ShadowDude112 » Tue Dec 22, 2015 10:42 pm

I'm not sure if this belongs in the main Heroes thread, but I wanted to make a separate topic because it was it's own question that I didn't want buried in the thread.

Heroes is apparently immensely popular in Japan. But, there were other games before it like Dragon Battlers. Those didn't exactly stay for as long as Heroes. Was it the avatars you could play as that caught on?

I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.

People like OC's/self-insert characters is my guess. I'm not one of those people so I don't see the appeal of it, but I know some people do like it. DA is full of fan-art of peoples' OC saiyan characters.

It probably has something to do with all the What If characters.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

It's actually quite fun to play. Whilst there's no such thing as Dragon Ball game that boils your blood at some point (and this being no exception to the rule) - it's actually one of the most fun DBZ games I've played.

That said, I do believe the What-If characters, such as several new Bardocks and Brolys helped majorly.

From what little I know about the the older Data Carddass games, Heroes plays pretty differently. You're more involved, despite it being a card game. This overhaul, as well as the avatar system, seemed to have helped make Heroes a success before the new What-ifs really became too much of a factor. They certainly didn't hurt once they were being introduced though.

Kids love trading cards and they will buy trading cards of the shows that they like the most. Kais watching Kai and Super ask their parents to buy the cards.

Its full of crazy what-if characters and on top combines it with trading cards which kids still fall for hook, line and sinker.

I really don't think it's just that simple. The predecessors had cards and Dragon Battlers had what-ifs the same as Heroes, yet they didn't have the staying power.

Wasn't Dragon Battlers rebranded when Kai was airing on Japan to Dragon Ball Kai Dragon Battlers? I think that may have had a bit of an effect on the longevity of Dragon Battlers considering that any Dragon Ball Kai related merchandise sales were pretty bad in Japan.

Heroes revived the series. We are in a new gen, but kids don't like to watch old cartoons. So it brought back reviving it with some "news". Son Goku is really old and can't have kids anymore (seriously) so bring up some nonsense saiyans, giving birth to oportunity to custom characters nowdays as you can see in games and time travels stuff.

But it's not working. Dragonball is something that exists among kids but most kids don't care about. So they are doing some really boring stuff like disney would comercially do. They just shouldn't aim kids with it, just because it doesn't work. And once they did, kids would come running.
