How do you handle series/franchise burnout?
How do you handle series/franchise burnout?
I know there are gonna be a few people who are gonna answer "I don't go through burnout." and such, that's fine but I'm curious if anyone has interesting stories or ways they've handled burnout with Dragon Ball, I know I have a couple times and I've overall just handled it by taking a break and then sometime down the road rewatching some favorite moments and then I feel that spark reignite my passion. I usually end up just consuming the whole series all over again, maybe playing the budokai series all over again after that.
A lot of this topic came from a friend and I discussing how we handled the loss of interest in some of the franchises we know and love. So it got me thinking, how do others handle it? So I guess from here...share stories or ideas on how to more easily handle that period of "I really don't want dragon ball right now..." and how ya get from there to "YEAH! DRAGON BALL!" again.

Going on hiatus. Too much stuff in RL to deal with for me to keep up with posts here for now. Was fun, hope you all have a nice day and future! Volt signing off.

I just A. Stop watching/reading but still keep in my mind so I don't lose all interest or B. Watch a new T.V (Malcolm in the middle, south park, the first 3 seasons of family guy) for about a month and then I'm back into watching/reading it again.

I do push-ups. Drink some milk. Lift 500 pounds.
Jk.
Take breaks. Watching other genre anime like seinin/shoujo might relief the burnout. That, or stop watchin any DragonBall related shows/games for 3-4 months

Take a break and find other stuff to watch is what I did.
I'm mostly running on Super-power right now. ^^;
Once DB Super ends I'll probably burnout again and return to semi-retirement. I nearly did retire in early 2012 from Dragon Ball, but then BOG was announced (then F, now Super) so here I am for now.

I focus on my other hobbies and interests. Other than Dragon Ball Super or the latest two films I haven't actually watched a full episode or film of any of the older works or even read the original comic in years.

I just move on to something else for a while. I stopped doing any real Dragon Ball related stuff for years after the constant reruns back in the early Toonami days.

Re: How do you handle series/franchise burnout?
I actually took a 10 year break from the franchise from 2005 to 2015. The only things I watched between that span was the 2008 ova with Tarble, the Beerus movie, and the other specials around that time. I got interested in DBZ again in 2015 because of the dual hype of the Freeza movie and Super being announced, and that made me want to go back and revisit the entire series.
Its funny, had Super never been announced and if the Freeza movie never happened, I'm not sure I would have gotten back into the franchise. From about July 2015-December 2015 I marathoned the entire series and watched all of Dragonball, DBZ, all the movies and specials, and select episodes of GT. I basically rewatched almost everything in 6 months.
Taking a 10 year break does wonders. Especially since I was only a young teenager in 2005.

I'm yet to be burnout because i returned to the series after couple of years of not watching, but i would probably take a break and wait till i got the need to come back.

I felt burnout on kai quite a few times, specially because of low budget music. But how I dealt with it?. I just watch other anime, like Jojo, HxH. Those are excellent and have never made me burnout once.

Well, I have so much hobbies, that I simply cycle inbetween my favorite franchises like Batman/DC Comics, Star Wars, Gundam, Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya
and doing music production, drawing and design... So, yeah, no burnout. I am just helluva lot busy.

Other than watching Resurrection F in UK Cinema I haven't really watched or read any Dragonball since. Other hobbies keep me busy but I still keep it in mind (I'm practically surrounded by the stuff lol)

I started watching this series when I was about 6 or 7, and I've stopped following the franchise once or twice... however ever since I got back into the series in about 2010, and began to appreciate the manga more, I hadn't experienced any franchise burnout.
That's started to happen with the new material being published. It's also a first for me to still be following the series/part of the fandom and feel this kind of burnout. So I don't really have a plan to deal with it, I'm just coasting along and seeing where my interest takes me.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Re: How do you handle series/franchise burnout?
I've never fully burnt out. Though what I did the two times I slowed, more or less, was read the color Akira, watch Samurai X, Vampire Hunter D or Evangelion. A lot of Cheers, MASH and Columbo as well. All while in between just continuing to collect rare Dragon Ball items and paying attention to DaizEX (and early on MFG too) then Kanzenshuu so I wouldn't fall off. The second time I forced myself to like Kai (which now I love) and then eventually got back into the forums after reading and listening to the cast for so long. Those two things (and all the video games) were enough to keep me afloat in the (rather minuscule) time between the last US Z releases, the Yo! 2008 Special, US Dragon Boxes and BoG/F and Super.

Well I just do other stuff like going to the gym, reading, working etc etc(basically my regular life stuff), and then I eventually come back like I've always done.

Two Words: One Piece
OP is the other big anime I watch and I love it more than DB to be honest and because of how much I watch of it and how frequent I do watch it, it's actually slowed down watching Super for me.

I do other things. Right now I'm watching Shirobako for a second time, for example. I'm also trying to watch K-On! for the first time, too. I'm also re-reading Eyeshield 21.

Re: How do you handle series/franchise burnout?
I just watch the series and movies once a year but If I happen to ever get burned out in the future, I would never sell my stuff because I know it'd be just a phase and eventually I'd want to watch it again and some of the stuff is just too hard to get back(Dragon-boxes)
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128
