Considering that a soft street date means they can ship stock upon receiving their order, I dunno why they wouldn't.

Sweet. Hopefully you'll get it in time to throw out a review before I get mine and do the same.

I'll be doing the same in a little bit. I just got a $10 "BB-Rewards" certificate in the mail so I'll be saving that instantly if they have it out. :P

If they don't, I can't wait to see the comparisions others are going to (hopefully) be doing.

Oh, I'll be doing a complete comparison regardless of whatever people do beforehand. Technical breakdown, comparison shots, script comparisons, etc.

Should be fun :P

Awesome. If I can fill the gaps in my collection up to the right point between now and when I finish watching my copy, I want to do a comparison between it and the Viz manga.

I think you should IMMEDIATELY post screen shots of the shots in question that have been posted here before (the 4-way shot of Goku/Gohan/Krillin/Vegeta comes to mind) and any others where people have speculated the loss will be the most intruding.

Oh, I will. I plan on watching their remastering featurette and giving my opinion and posting that shot at least. If anything else sticks out, I'll post it as well along with a quick bitrate breakdown.

On a sidenote (via PM if you want), what are your thoughts on the latest with VH?

Seeing as how several people plan to do reviews, I assume a new thread will be started so that we don't have 60+ pages to go through.

Could we perhaps have an official discussion thread to limit the number of simultaneous threads? IE Mike creates the thread, stickies it and people can post their reviews as they get their sets. Perhaps 'MajinVejitaXV' could be the official reviewer as he seems quite eager and knowledgable?

Yea, I was gonna say that. Like a "DBZ Season 1 DVD Landfill" people can just dump there screen shots, reviews, clips, all that crap, in one place.

I plan on making my own thread, I'm not all that large on the group work stuff.

And Funi doesn't do soft street dates, they just haven't taken legal action against anyone who has put out their disks early, so no one pays attention. And yes, there is a difference between the two.

Best Buy used to break street dates all the time! I remember getting a Yu Yu Hakusho disc a moth and a half before the official date once! A few years back, at San Diego Comic-Con, one of the FUNi reps did mention they were getting fed up with Best Buy. And for about a year and a half, I have yet to see BB break a FUNi street date...

So who knows, they might have taken action. Perhaps it's OK to send stock out early so that it arrives round the release date, but it's probably still not OK to stock the store shelves upon receiving the item.

Corey... I eagerly await your review!

"I thought you guys might want to know that I got the DVD set today. I was alright with the video side of things despite the cropping, my problem was with "Uncut English dialogue with Japanese music" audio track. For some reason they replaced "Cha La Head Cha La" with the crappy dub BGM which is stange because they have the ending "Zenkai Power". God I hope they fix this on future sets."

"No they're still missing the next episode previews. Opening is creditless and the ending with English dialoge selected has "Zenkai Power" with English version credits (Why the hell do they never credit the Japanese voice actors and animators)."

This is from an AnimeonDVD poster. To be honest if Cha La Head Cha La isn't on the 5.1 English version I don't especially care. It's obviously going to be on the Japanese side and besides we're lucky we're even getting the Japanese score with English dialogue option at all. (Although it IS odd how Zenkai power is used for the English ending credits). I'm not particularly shocked that there are no next episode previews either, as FUNimation never had them in the first place, and I don't especially care anyway. The main thing is the video *appears* to be OK, this was obviously the major concern, although I would like some more screencaps to judge for myself :x

The only instance that I have experienced a breaking of street release date was surprisingly at Toys R Us many years ago. I bought Pokemon Gold three days before the release date. I was the talk of the town.

So...does anyone actually have the box set in their hands yet? Anyone see it at their local Best Buy? I didn't...and I'll just have to wait until I get it from CD Universe. And, damn it, I'll get the box set early! Early I tells ya!

Places like Best Buy and Walmart are so huge compared to Funi and don't give a damn about what they say. I seem to remember someone working for Best Buy saying Walmart was notorious for breaking street dates. They put it out when they got it. Fact is, Funi needs them more than Walmart/BB needs Funi...

For the Head Cha La problem...

Click the audio button until you get the pure Japanese audio. Listen to Head Cha La. Click audio again to get back to english w/ Japanese BGM. Problem solved.

Not too big a deal. I didn't really expect them to get the next episode previews, and again, not a big deal. Now I want some damn screecaps! Since this guy has the DVD, it means that it is on the streets! Now, come Daizex community, let us storm our nearby Best Buy! 8)

"It's over 9000 aughhh!"-Sabat's over 9000. Finally own it on DVD, very, very soon.

Damn it, FUNi, why promise something if you're not going to deliver 100%? I mean, I know this isn't the end of the world (I'll just do what the above posters said and switch languages for the opening), and I'll still be buying this set (once I see screencaps, of course), but promising the original music and then replacing the opening song, which is the very first thing the viewer hears, seems to be a little on the false-advertizing side of things. Two big thumbs up for keeping "Zenkai Power," though.

So I guess the list of cons can be updated to:

- Widescreen Presentation
- Replacement of "Cha-La-Head-Cha-La" in the Dub
- Credits still don't mention the original staff

Hopefully the rest will be just fine.
