Opinions on Gotenks

Not a fan at all, I could live without him ever showing up again, I'd prefer it actually.

In adult form in particular. Both main-timeline adult Trunks and adult Goten would need as much independent developement as possible, fusion just reduces them to fodder for another character. Goten in particular, Heroes made it even worse recently turning him into fusion fodder for future Trunks this time lol...

I just cringe every time he appears now, but not because of his personality, but I hate him more so because of his writing surrounding it. Apparently he can instantly do anything he wants, any technique he sees, effortlessly master SSJ3, yet never accomplishes anything for his worth. He just makes a bad joke out of everything build up on the themes in the series before hand. His fights just get way too unnecessarily dragged and force too many gags and not real technique and he gets old really quick, he's like an OP Great Saiyaman. I never liked characters that wasted time just to mess around, it only hurts more when they do it while being OP at the same time... *Cough* SSJ4 Gogeta... it turns into those moments where it just feels like power is just handed to an undeserving character. However he had the biggest missed opportunity when he didn't get to fight Kid Buu, a character just like himself. That would have been interesting.

He's the best character if you don't take things too seriously. As an aside, Kid Trunks is great too.

Eh, I think Gotenks is fine. Sure he was goofy, but I think the problems with him are mostly because of Toriyama's lack of focus in the Buu arc, what with introducing so many concepts and ways of beating Buu.

I thought you were asking about Trunks.

Goten is a whiney carbon copy of Goku as a kid, but stronger and a LOT less focus on him.

I absolutely love Gotenks, his entire segment is one of the best things of the Boo arc and he also brings out the best in Piccolo's character at the time.

He's also insanely annoying, so I think Toriyama was pretty careful not to over-do it. Definitely more of a "small doses" character, but he is really great at that.

I think him having a larger appearance is long overdue, though. I'd also like to see old versions of him, and how his personality would change.

To be honest, the biggest thing I feel gets overlooked is how silly the Boo saga really was. I mean in a playful way. Looking at his other works and even just Original DB, it's always about crazy stuff, it's always balls out having fun, it's always about bending reality either for a laugh or a plot device. Really the Boo saga just perpetuates that idea while continuing on with the OP nature of post-Saiya-jin saga DBZ. It was pretty much natural progression for not just DBZ but also just Toriyama's style in general. That being said, Gotenks became the embodiment of both OP DBZ nature and the fun playful/sometimes cocky attitude we see so often in Toriyama's work. He's does feel 65/35 Trunks/Goten, but that's natural as well. Trunks has the dominant personality. I think this character was used well, especially so for the manga.

Classic uber character that play, and which then leaves alive his opponent.
I can not say to love him because, in general, despise this kind of characters (Vegeth is not far behind)

However, it has an excellent design, a varied and original repertoire of techniques, and his clash with Boo was great fun. Has done his part (fortunately not too long)

IDK why people hate him but gotenks is the best character in the buu arc.

His fight vs buu was a classic.
Buutenks was the best looking buu
His attacks were interesting
He deliver a better beatdown (not in power terms) than gohan to buu, who was just attacking him
He is so cocky
