I actually wasn't even able to download the clip(s). I got the codec, but for some reason the site in the first link gives me an error message when I went to it :/

Wow... I've gotta say that I'm pretty disappointed. I mean they didn't even try and move the "camera" to focus on where a particular scene is positioned. Regardless, I'll still keep my pre-order on the set. As for future releases, I think I'll be fine getting FUNi's single discs.
And about those special features: I had a feeling that we'd get that damn tech trailer to try and justify themselves out of it. Ugh...

So, is nobody going to comment on the English dialogue/Japanese music combination?
Terrible cropping issues aside for now, the retention of the Japanese music in the English dub is what I'd like to get some commentary on.

Well here's one lil' bit:
godofchaos wrote:Listening to the dub voices and japanese music is very very odd, I'm not sure I can watch the show like this frankly, I enjoy the dub and the original japanese, with the original japanese beating the dub, but i keep getting pulled out of the show because my ears for some reason cant 'adjust' to hearing stuff from both at the same time.

Thanks for the Caps man. The colors are beautiful & the cleaned it up good. I gotta say as far as colors go, I prefer this to the Dragon Box. As far as cropping goes, it's just as I thought, not so hot. But I'll live.

I actually got that if it makes any difference. 4:3 DBZ is dead.

I was excited about this set, but now I just don't know. The cropping is truely awful.
Dragon Ball Z in widescreen is Hell.
-_-
I gonna have to agree with you here. I didn't think it would be this bad, but like most others, the price for these sets are what really convinced me to purchase otherwise.

I payed $20 for 100% of 3 episodes (9 times no less). Paying $50 (or much less) for 80% of 39 episodes is something I've decided... I'm okay with...

God fucking dammit....
FUNimation is lucky I don't live in Texas, otherwise I would probably be in jail for something stupid right about now.
Thank you guys for the caps and clips and comments.
I'll be looking forward for Corey's review as well btw.
Well... Now, I don't know what to do... This sucks, and it's going to suck for the next 5+ years of FUNimation and "ZOMFG WYDESKREEEN!1 DEE BEE ZEE"...

The previous releases weren't 100% either, while not as much as the season sets' wide-screen effect, the zoom-in effect FUNi applied did in fact crop the top and bottom of the previous releases as well (and also a greater deal of the horizontal area).

Price is what matters to a lot of people obviously...
The price isn't what I'm concerned about; I would have a Dragonbox or two if it weren't for the subtitles thing.
But from the looks of it, is this set a good set, no matter what the price? No...

Well...damn. So the packaging is shoddy, the cropping is horrible, we don't get the previews, and the credits are wrong.
Why am I not surprised? I don't think I'll be picking this up now. At the very least, I wanted the appropriate openings/closings with credits, and with any luck, the previews.

Wow. I am speech less about this. FUNi really screwed us big time! Hopefully, they'll make a Movie Box Set so I can buy that instead of the Season Boxes. I was going to buy the first one, but I'm never buying any of them. The movies would probably be better, as they were ment for widescreen anyway.

I almost wrote "nearly 100%" but didn't think anyone would call me on it.

When it comes down to it, I just wanna watch DBZ! I just want to sit down and watch it and enjoy the story and the characters. Seems like I've been waiting forever (seven years) to be able to just watch it start to finish. I ain't waiting any more! But, I totally understand people being upset.

Wow, the booklet is almost as bad as the cropping....
it has a 2 page feature in it called 'the history of dragonball z in america'
DBZ apparently was on 'wb' in 1996, which it wasn't, it was syndicated, airring on wb in many locations, but just as likely on Fox, UPN, or a local station.
It says in August of 1998 Cartoon Network began showing the final 2 seasons of DBZ.
....but then it says in 1999 that was the year DBZ premiered on Cartoon Network in the USA....
and then in 2001 the booklet starts bragging about chip sales in Australia.
it also mentions that Irwin started making DBZ figures in 1999, but makes no mention of Bandai USA or Jakks.
The booklet just has basic character bios, episode descriptions, the crazy 2 page timeline, and on the BACK cover, over about 1/4th of the page they talk about the 'transfer', but not mentioning widescreen at all.
And widescreen IS mentioned on the box, but just in small letters on the back.
Whoever wrote the booklet HONESTLY needs a swift kick in the ass.

Whaaaaaaat? That's..... special.
I'm still curious to see the scenes where they show the screen split horizontally into four sections.

Keep in mind that these boxsets are going to be the only way to get a hunk of episodes in North America unless you want the edited dub.
If they finished the Ultimate Uncuts, there'd be no problem here. There'd be a clear option.
