How would you write a story about Cell coming back?

Seeing the direction where Super is going... I would say the only way would be for a Cell from a different universe to show up. He would be x50 more powerful than U7 Cell and would have the ability to absorb anyone and not just the androids. Just like he absorbed Goku on GT, he would have no limits to his power.

I see no point in his resurrection and there's probably no one to wish him back, so he should stay dead. A new stories - that's what we need now, not "revenge of cell" aka "revenge of freeza 2.0".

I definitely agree, but Toriyama or Toei ever insist on bringing back some old villain, then I wouldn't mind grown-up present-timeline Cell larva sruviving.

If they really would want to bring back some more old pals from the past, then I want to see Dabura with a great power up from Hell (he was a demon king goddamit). Maybe they will introduce Mira and Towa to the anime so it might be possible (they already wished him back in DB Heroes). It would be way more interesting than bringing back Cell. There's no way that so little larva could survive a powerful ki blasts from both Krillin and Trunks. And I will say even more - it would be stupid.

Since #17 and #18 are still around, part of Gero's programming still exists. They could've had back-up programs installed in them to rebuild the computer or Cell if he doesn't exist by a certain year.

Reincarnation is a thing in Dragon Ball, so I would follow Oob's example and have Cell reborn as a human or an alien with all of his power, and then something jogs his past-life memory.

Just say that one cell remained, after the battle with Gohan, have a villain, who has an obsession over Cell after watching his performance at the Cell Games find it, genetically engineer the remaining cell and reconstruct his full body, and there ya go, Cell's back.

In fanfiction, Cell's revenge stories are usually one of the following:
-Cell somehow escapes from Hell.
-Someone decides to wish him back.
-Gero's computer has yet another backup plan and builds a Cell 2.0. He has DNA from all the warriors Cell did in addition to others who appeared after the Cell saga like Dabura, Cell, and sometimes GT and movie characters.

Some authors try to make it a little different. I've seen one where a Cell Jr somehow survives the Cell Games and vows revenge against Gohan when he grows up. Another one has Cell get reincarnated as a human shortly after the Cell Games so that he's around the same age of Goten. I remember it was an AU with him and Goten growing up as rivals.

In video games, we already have Cell-X and Miira who's technically a demon version of Cell with a very similar backstory. I don't know if I'd like to see an official Cell revenge story unless it had a different premise than most fan fiction. A problem with Dragonball is that there are so many fanfics that they've already exhausted most ideas. It's difficult to come up with anything now that hasn't already appeared somewhere in a video game or fanfic.

Next, proliferate. Form an empire of Cell Jr's with multiple zenkais. Assign them with tasks of 1. Snatch DB's. 2. Kill every goddamn martial artist on Earth

While every guy lose their mind tryin to figure-out which Cell is true, the primordial Cell stays deep buried underground fulfilling late Dr.Gero's wish. Conducting superior experiments to further "perfect" his immortal self (kinda like Father from FMAB)

Now, I really wish Dabura gets a turn. He was such a suave & cool-lookin evil SOB. He had so much untaooed potential to be honest (his backstory, turning his back on Babidi or hell, even joining Z fighters etc)

I would not bring back Cell. The only way that I could think of him coming back if we had a team of 6 vs. 6 for the Champa saga. They end up wishing back Cell to join Goku's team, but I highly doubt Cell would ever team up with Goku.

The fact that Cell regards Goku as the only worthy, competent warrior for his stature is nothin short of respect. At least on platonic level

Not many options though. If we go by minimum-count of separate timelines that have to exist for the Cell saga story to be able to happen (which is 4), we only have 1 Cell left alive, the larva one in alternate version of present-timeline. That timeline had Future Trunks warn Z fighters about Androids but it didn't have Future Cell thus the larva in Gero's lab wasn't killed.

But considering that Future Trunks gave Goku the medicine and the Z-fighters trained and (presumably) killed the Androids, would the completed Cell even be a threat? Even if he could eb, then there's Majin Buu. Without Cell Games, Z-fighters could be weaker anyway and Babidi could've easily succeeded with his plan and Cell larva would've been destroyed before 786 completition anyway.

It's a very interesting timeline, lack of Future Cell's arrival in it could change everything

I wouldn't. It was stupid enough Freeza came back in a worthless pointless arc/movie, and we don't need Cell back either.

But if I had to think of something. I suppose a new Cell is made. He wouldn't be called Cell, but perhaps someone else does what Gero did, and includes the gods and up to date information. Not an earthling, but maybe a highly intelligent civilization that went to earth or sent a drone to earth because it was a once in a lifetime chance to get Beerus' cells (And they couldn't get it from Beerus' home). So Cell comes back in concept, but not actually. Kinda like how Turles is and isn't evil Goku.

If it has to be THE CELL. Then I suppose a tiny atom or so of Cell remained, and a back up plan of Gero had that compiled, and growing for years. Repeat the drones who gather the gods and Golden Freeza cells, and Cell comes back. Or something like that, except he's weaker and a tool to help Gohan stop being a moron if he turns out to have learnt nothing.
