It's pretty incredible that Super is basically the top show among "newer" series (Granted, Dragon Ball isn't exactly a new franchise, even if Super itself is new). The top 6 have been on the air for 15+ years, and have refused to give up their positions (seriously, most of them were beating Dragon Ball back in the 80s and 90s, and are continuing to do so today). The only way Super can get above 7th is if one of those series isn't airing that week. As a fan, though, I can't help but root for it to beat one of those stalwart series just one time. Hopefully the new content will turn out to be incredibly well received, and it'll experience a jump that vaults it into the top 6, even if only temporarily. Watch out, Detective Conan...we're coming for you!

While ratings are amazing, so was Kai, and it sold poorly in Japan, I'm waiting for Champa Box Set sales, as right now, retellings are selling quite poorly

Long running mainstream shows aren't meant to sell discs, and they don't. Naruto, One Piece, Yokai Watch, Conan, Precure, all of them have poor sales. Other shows like Fairy Tail and Pokemon apparently don't even get regular releases in Japan.

Disc sales are only important to late night anime. In fact, none of the top 10 anime have good disc sales, so you're looking at the wrong side of the equation.

Comparing it to Kai's situation doesn't hold up either. As extensively discussed here, merchandise sales are so much higher now, we can't even compare.

Kai's problem was merchandise sales, not DVD. Home video releases for anime in Japan are a complete afterthought, as low-budget anime like Dragon Ball, One Piece, etc. are just meant to be watched week-by-week and that's it. Hence why Dragon Ball/Z/GT didn't get any home releases until 2003.

http://www.tvguide.or.jp/ranking/timerr ... index.html

DVR Rating: 11th of January - 17th of January
1st: Lupin III - 100.0
2nd: Yokai Watch - 87.7
3rd: One Piece - 85.5
4th: Doraemon (Special) - 79.6 (Didn't air last week)
5th: Detective Conan (1 hour Special) - 70.2 (Down 1)
6th: Mobile Suit Gundam - 64.5
7th: Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (New entry) - 62.0
8th: Gintama - 60.5 (Down 3)
9th: Dragon Ball Super (Episode 27) - 58.0 (Down 2)
10th: Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (TV) 2nd Season (New Entry) - 47.2

Super got down to 9th again, even with the highest percentage since episode 14. There was percentage increases across the board, which means Lupin III lost some steam this week.
There's two new entry's, which might be Super rivals this winter season, besides Gintama and Mobile Suit Gundam.
Hoping next episode, with the start of the new arc, we get to the 60's. Bringing us back into the fight for 6th place.

BokuMachi is really good imo. It's a strong thriller all around. (With a fantastic OP). If it's got any distractions it's having a live action actor instead of a voice actor voicing the male lead, but I've gotten used to it.

I hope Super stays in the top 5 now with the new Champa material. Here's hoping that 2016 is the year of Dragon Ball :D

The Noitamina shows tend to start with strong recordings, but then they quickly lose steam - it just happened to Laplace and Perfect Insider. That said, BokuMachi is far superior so far. Having actors voicing the leads is usual for "serious" movies or tv series that are going for a more realistic take. I think it's refreshing, although this one in particular sounded a littie stiff at first.

Its been "the year of Dragon Ball" again since 2012. I still remember when out of nowhere BOG was announced.
Internet just exploded that day.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Yikes. That's quite a tumble from last week. But this is par for the course considering that rating for Super have been bipolar from day 1.

It really is. Toei put so much love into the animation of that episode and it couldn't even crack the top ten. Precure really is Toei's passion project.

Even with a new saga the hearing does not increase, it's sad.

Yeah that's the joint worst ranking it's had at #9. I wonder why that is when One Piece's ratings seem higher than usual too.

Well if the japanese are like me they want to get to the fights, not watch the characters stand around talking, and even though I enjoyed this episode, in the back of my mind I wonder if the fights will even be worth it. They sure weren't worth a darn in the latest freeza arc, and only a little better in the Beerus saga, but nothing compared to really any of the fights in Z, and that's what people have come to expect from DB, and what Super will be compared to.

Bottom line, Previews can hurt a series episodes ratings as much as help them. Especially if the viewer isn't seeing what they want or expect.
