Well considering I only have the ultra-edited Ocean original Vegeta Saga taped from the TV on tapes that are now disintegrating, I can put up with the cropping if it means I can get 39 episodes for £20 with the original uncut Japanese audio with good subtitles. No "the building was empty!" for me now!

Oh, and I see they've gotten rid of the horrible orange for the set and changed it to red... It's better, but I still don't like the generic layout and boxes on the cover.

Don't know how colors are set on your screen, but thats still orange.

godofchaos is the Yajorobie frame in your opinion the worst frame out of all of them? Or are there any comparible to it because I'm on the fence after seeing that shot I have to admit. The whole "FUNimation is destroying Toei's artistic intentions" argument always used to make me laugh, but they've cut out his entire fucking face there.

How odd. It's looks a lot more red than it did previously on my PC monitor. Erm... I don't know! What ever, the cover is still horrible either way...

It always amazes me how funimation manages to get all the sky dark blue in their masters, instead of cyan.

I have to say that on the dbox the cropping of zenkai is different with every episode, and in some you dont see much of his face.

There are some worse examples, but I have mostly layed back and tried watching the episodes, by this point if people are still gonna convince themselves that its fine no screenshots will convince them, so it seems a waste of time to try and explain whats wrong any further.

Anyone who gets the point, gets it, anyone who doesn't, doesn't.

And my opinion of bad isn't the same for other people, I think seeing Krillin's head cut off so you only see 4 of his dots ruins it because they spent the effort to always draw him with 6, and maybe times becuase of the angle of his head, and the crop, you only see one.

As you can see in the shot with gohan, you only really see his mouth, and the rest of his face is hacked off.

Seeing half the text of 'KAME HOUSE' cutoff might not matter to some people, it does to me, not because I'm crazy, or overdemanding, but because IT IS WHAT IS IN THE GODDAMN SHOW, and I don't think it is unreasonable to request we SEE the entire show.

The set isn't uncut, because every goddamn frame has been edited, people can complain about cigarettes being removed, or beer turned to water, but missing a good chunk of the show and 'oh well, nothing can be done about it, or BUT ITS ONLY 20 OR 30 DOLLARS!!!!', and you know what, it may be cheap, and you might buy it, but don't make excuses for them just to make yourself feel better, I was bought set one as a gift, I might buy the rest anyways, but if I do I choose to, and I wont make excuses for what is clearly Funi being cheap lazy fuckers.

When they are talking about integrity on the goddamn bonus features, and then you hear the character in the show talk about seeing the full moon, and a chunk of the moon doesn't show up cause the shot isn't framed correctly because they were to lazy to even CROP the damn thing properly, that is bullshit.

If Funi doesn't wanna spend the money to remove the glue and properly remaster the series, then fine, SCAN THE GODDAMN THING WITH THE GLUE, OR GET BETTER FUCKING MASTERS!, I don't specifically CARE which, I've seen bullshit about them talking about integrity, and having good masters for the future, if that is the truth, and I DOUBT it is at this point, then show some balls and spend the money to do it right, because this set is honestly, so full of bullshit, they couldn't even do a 2 page timeline properly talking about the shows history in the USA, to the extent they go on about AUSTRALIA in the second largest part of the timeline, and the timeline only HAS 18 entries total, someone could make sure they are right.

That's my rant on the set as a whole. If you are gonna buy it, I doubt it'll change your mind, but i felt it necessary to get it off my chest anyways, because some people seem to feel the need to 'convince' themselves to buy it, if you are gonna buy it, you don't need to convince US, if you wanna buy it, buy it, but at the end of the day, this is HONESTLY, the worst DBZ has ever been edited, the audio might be uncut, the storyline might be, but when you loose that much of the video....its just not what they say it is, and it HONESTLY bothers me that from what the bonus feature shows that theres a good chance this is all we will ever have, and I would feel this way about ANY show that is being screwed with as heavily as this is...

I cancelled my pre-order awhile ago, but I was recently pondering whether or not to re-order it. I'm also in the UK and I'm stuck with my VHS tapes recorded from the TV. However, I've decided not to re-order this set. I'll just wait for Toonami to re-run DBZ and get myself a DVD-Recorder.

Also, are those 4:3 screen captures on the back of the DVD case?

Fuck it I've cancelled. You know what I was fine up until I saw that Yajirobe shot, and that's swung everything for me. If you're going to crop the show at least make sure the important stuff is kept in. That was his entire face and it's a complete fucking mess. This set isn't even worth £17 now, and I'm bored of convincing myself otherwise.

Wow, this is a lot worse than I originally thought. I suppose I will by the Vegeta and Namek Saga boxes but no more after that. I will seek out the old DVDs as FUNimation have given me no other choice if I want to own the series properly on DVD.

I think it's pretty tragic that the only way of seeing these episodes unedited, in the correct aspect ratio and with English language subtitles is now a bootleg. Way to go FUNimation...

Well I can honestly say I'm not happy with what I've seen so far but my set has already shipped. I'll probably only buy the second set after this just to get the missing Namek episodes so I'll have every episode availible to watch in Japanese with subs (finally). That's my plan unless the remastering REALLY impresses me.

Same plan for me, I'll buy this set and the next set to complete the collection but thats it. Hopefully the average consumer notices how terrible this is and the backlash causes them to go back and re-do all this in 4:3.

Although I'm sure this set will still sell very well as its the first and it's received a lot of hype, I honestly cannot see FUNimation sustaining these sorts of sales for the rest of the seasons, once people see what a mess it is. But what are they going to do? Cancel after already cancelling the Ultimate Uncut seasons, and saying they'll release all 291 episodes this time? No chance. They really are screwed.
