I've often wondered how the color of the sky could vary THAT much. However, if you look at non-Vegeta episodes from the DragonBox, the colors and sky look just fine (look for some screens from the movies DragonBox set). I'm starting to just think the original really is green-ish and FUNI's master copy is a poor copy in terms of overall color variation for those episodes. FUNI's discs during the Cell Saga are pretty much right on in terms of colors (although, theirs are still darker, but not off by THAT much).

I never got any of the box sets, but I pre-ordered the last 4 discs coming out of the DragonBox singles, so I'm guessing FUNI's colors will be similar to the last episodes of Z, but just slightly darker (but not like they are thru the Vegeta Saga)

Alright, I've got an idea that people might like (that I debated doing before):

I'm gonna do a video review of the new set. It won't be lossless, of course, but you can see some clips in motion and see how the cropping impacts the ability to watch the show. I'll also go thru a basic technical rundown and all that jazz, explaining things from square one. I'm thinking it'll be a 10-15 minute clip that I'll post on YouTube or elsewhere if someone will host it.

Sound good?

Just sent you a PM, but I might be able to help out hosting a video file or two. I've got that FTP server, but I can also just set up a dummy webpage for a temporary amount of time if people are interested.

the remaster just looks weird, the lines look like a posterization filter from photoshop cs 2.

I tried turning the green sky into blue sky with photoshop but it seems rather impossible so I really do wonder how funimation always makes it blue.

Sounds good, just try not to make it sound too bias.

I would like to host it with your permission. I'm making a website to be a resource for people wanting alternatives to FUNi's crap.

Alright, cool. I'll probably have three mirrors from offers that I've gotten, which is cool so nobody is burdened by bandwith consumption.

Good idea! Unfortunately, dbaf.com is taken. I bought dbaf.info though! Seems to fit better anyway, don't you think?

More info later. :)

I'm gonna check the Best Buy by my house, which may have it (probably not though). If they don't have it, best case scenario I'll have it next week and worst case I'll have it the week after that (street date).

I'm still deciding... For the time being I'm leaning towards getting the DragonBox singles... I watched "Talladega Nights" in fullscreen the other day, and it was painful... Seeing cropped DBZ would make that pain ten-fold.

Well, I guess this is what I'm stuck with. I'm sorta broke so I can't get the Dragonbox singles, plus, this is the only way, and probably will be the only way for a long time, to get the whole series with subtitles of any competence. I'll bear with it until something better (hopefully fullscreen) comes out.

Just one question, that probably doesn't have an answer...

What is leading FUNi to believe that this release was actually a good release?

Horrible cropping, off-set color, basically doing nothing to preserve the series as it was intended... It's like they don't think about the property or listen to the people who watch the property.

It's stupid...

Well, I've opened my eyes. I'm probably not going to get this set and I'm going to start importing DragonBox single dvds. I have enough money to get 2 so I think I'll get Vol.16 and Vol.5 because they have some good fights on them. I just hope I won't be too put off by the fact that there's no subtitles.

Well I just got it in the mail yesterday and watched about 9 episodes. I have to say that I enjoyed it and I didnt notice the cropping much at all. I think the colors look great and the frame rate is crisp (compared to the UUE's). I think they did a ok job overall and while the cropping is an issue, it doesnt make it unwatchable. I hope the other seasons come out soon. I just hope they fix some of the problems.
