Heh, the way some of you guys talk about the set makes me wonder if you got it for the episodes, or just for the sake of comparing. I'm pretty sure amazon plays it safe and doesn't ship early, so I won't be getting the set for some time :(. And yeah, I think a new thread should be made for everyone's reviews.

First, we heard about FUNi remastering the series. Then a few months later, we're finally given an actual announcement along with a trailer. And now, we're all sitting on your front porches for the set to arrive. I didn't buy the DragonBox Movies set, so it's pretty interesting for me to have all this build up for so long and actually pre-order the thing to investigate along with the others who've done the same. :D

Wow...English audio with JP music and they can't even get 'Cha La Head Cha La' right? Is not having next episode previews that big of a deal? I could only imagine you'd want them for completeness's sake.

I was watching the last few episodes of GT for the first time and I always skipped over the previews. I don't want to know what happens before I've even seen the episode.

Are the eye catchers present on this new box set? (Damn, I hate eye catchers!)

I don't understand why they didn't include Cha-la in the opening for the new dub track. It can't be about musical rights. I suppose its just Funimation being Funimation. I hope they don't exclude the insert songs like Spirit VS Spirit. :? I somewhat expected they weren't gonna have the next episode previews though.

Well, my local Best Buy didn't have it in and neither did Circuit City... but they've always sucked ass when it comes to anime. Ah well. *Watches AoD thread like a hawk*

EDIT: BTW, fps_anth: I got Pokemon Gold two weeks before its scheduled release. :P

Yea, apparently even FUNimation is confused about this Cha-La mishap...
And I'm just completely baffled about the replacement of the opening song... I'll just press the "audio" button to switch to the Japanese song when I watch the opening, and then switch to the English audio when the opening ends.

I've also been hearing from posts on the AnimeonDVD forum that the episode previews are not included in the episodes. I'm not really depressed about this. That's beyond FUNimation's control, so we can't really blame them for not including something that they never really had.

The opening song's replacement in the dub is unfortunate, though.

I dont think MagicBox is part of FUNi, he's just the forum moderator...

I think FUNimation is going to ignore it lol.

Yup... I agree with Nathan, sadly.

No episode previews? T.T I know it's not really their fault, but they could've tried to get the correct audio from toei. As stuck-up as they may be (or so I've been told.), they probably would fix mistakes like that should FUNi ask.

That sucks major ass.

Nothing at my local Best Buy, I'll have my friend check stock and see if it's at the warehouse or wherever.

The song change sounds like a screw up on FUNi's part. I'll give my full report whenever it pops up locally, probably this weekend or so.

Probably, but thanks to the widescreen you only have to see part of them :P

Besides, who wants eyecatchers when you can see Kuririn summon Porunga twice! In a row! ;)

I'll have my box within the hour, so anyone who has Dragonbox stuff and wants to work out matching screencaps will need to contact me pretty soon, otherwise ill just watch and cap random stuff.

These would be great. Also the now famous 4-way split-screen shot from the end of this episode. (This is all from episode 34, by the way).

Happy day indeed. I should be studying for exams...but this is pretty terrific.

Could you take some pics of the actual box? The separate cases inside the box? The booklet included? I don't really have any requests for screencaps, as long as the 4-way splitscreen is there, and should you encounter some really awkward screens, cap away!

Thanks a lot for this!

I need to start thinking about what I post on that board before I post it.

I'm sorry if my post on the FUNi Forums gave you guys the idea that the company is confused about the music replacement, but I'm just a mod on the forums. I don't represent FUNimation in any way, I don't know any more information than you guys do, and I'm just as mad about the widescreen thing as you are. I'm not entirely sure why the opening song was replaced, but it is wierd.

Haha... I can relate on people think I worked for FUNi when I was a mod. Back when DBZOA was doing their dumbass thing, they actually did an article on me as if I was someone who worked for the company. I think it was called "Why the One Piece community can't trust EvilGamerX." Ah the good ol' days. When people start taking your word as FUNi's word, just ignore them. Or tell the admin to make a sticky saying that mods don't represent FUNi in any way, to prevent confusion.

Wait... I remember you!

The only problem was how dead the Dragonball forum itself became.

Speaking of that, I just did a quick check there and it looks like this guy would be at home here.

As for the box set: I know the quality of the Funi DVDs are supposed to be high, but are they higher than the Dragon Box ones? I think I read a post here saying they are. Which seemed odd to me.

Actually, FUNi's discs across the board are apparently criticized for bad encodes (lots of artifacting). I haven't noticed too much outside of the DragonBall Z discs, but then again I'm no huge owner of FUNi shows.

I can't say until I see them, but from a standpoint of one who typically is good at predicting such things...no. They're nowhere near as high. The DragonBoxes are 6 episodes with one mono track per disc, whereas FUNi is cramming 3 audio tracks with 6-7 episodes a disc. From a technological standpoint, they can't be as good (discounting all the dicking with cropping and color and so on).
