Kienzan question
We know that the kienzan can hurt opponents much stronger than the user due to its cutting nature, but I was wondering, what would happen if someone tried to deflect it by hitting the flat side (top/bottom) of the disk? It's not sharp there, so it should be able to be blocked like a normal ki blast, right?
Cool stuff that I upload here because Youtube will copyright claim it: https://vimeo.com/user60967147

Yes, I think that too.
Not really much of a discussion, I guess..

Wasn't Frieza in RoF throwing out a whole bunch of those things (well, not Kienzans, but his version of them, at least)? And wasn't Goku deflecting them left and right, both in Base and as a SSJGSSJ?

He was deflecting them in SSGSS, he only deflected regular blasts in base form.Tectorman wrote:Wasn't Frieza in RoF throwing out a whole bunch of those things (well, not Kienzans, but his version of them, at least)? And wasn't Goku deflecting them left and right, both in Base and as a SSJGSSJ?
And yeah, always seemed weird that scene in the movie. At first Freeza fires off what appears to his own version of Kienzan and Goku dodges all of them, then Freeza tries again and Goku just deflects them. Although it had the same sound effects were those on the 2nd try really Kienzans? I mean it is the first first time we've seen them blow up in that case, and it seemed more like blasts on the second try, but I haven't seen the movie in a long time, so I can't really recall just how much they looked like Kienzan, if they actually did, that is.

Re: Kienzan question
I don't think they're kienzan type attacks. They don't have the same sound effect or design as when Kuririn uses his earlier in the film, and, other than kind of looking flat at some angles, they don't have any of the techniques other properties either.
Re: Kienzan question
The flat sides of the Kienzan I could see being used for repelling. I can also think of some pretty interesting strategies that might be used involving it.

Re: Kienzan question
you proply need to control the flat side with certain amount of ki or it will tear the holders hand to pieces I guess.
Re: Kienzan question
It's probably densely-focused and "sharp" ki all the way through to the middle, not just the edge... so it'd most likely still cut you if you tried to physically deflect it even from a non-direct angle. You'd have to use a ki blast or nothing, I'd bet.

Re: Kienzan question
It makes sense, it's not the flat side you need to worry about. As a matter of fact, (horrible example I know) in GT Freeza threw Krillin's version of the Kienzan at Goku. Goku proceeded to ride on the flat end like a skateboard. If you can ride the flat end, you can deflect the flat end I suppose.Polyphase Avatron wrote:We know that the kienzan can hurt opponents much stronger than the user due to its cutting nature, but I was wondering, what would happen if someone tried to deflect it by hitting the flat side (top/bottom) of the disk? Re: Kienzan question
I think this already happened in DBZ movie #3, when one of Tullece's henchman stopped the Kienzan by grabbing it in the middle, but I'd need to double-check that.Polyphase Avatron wrote:We know that the kienzan can hurt opponents much stronger than the user due to its cutting nature, but I was wondering, what would happen if someone tried to deflect it by hitting the flat side (top/bottom) of the disk?
