That's not what I heard. From what I've heard they tweaked the color. I've seen a few old shots from some old Fansubs, the colors are far different from the DragonBox.MajinVejitaXV wrote:The DragonBoxes don't have any changes in terms of color or anything else. I imagine that the fansubs would be of a considerably lower quality seeing as they'd be recorded once from the original broadcast (or whatever the source was) then undergone an amateur subtitling process. The only way to get the subtitles in there is to alter the original video; even digitally you have to recompress so an analog signal would probably degrade quite a bit.Lavender Saiyan wrote:That's not what I heard. I'll pick the show up from FUNI, when FUNI starts releasing the show the way it should be, I honestly dont understand why they have to tweak with DBZ?? They dont with any other property they own?? WHY DBZ!
no it wont??? widescreen tv's that are adjusted to the way the source material is orginal presented you dont loose any footage at all and the set isnt on any HD format so why would that have to do with anything??Smooth Criminal wrote:Don't most of you have 16:9 televisions anyways? You can't just "upgrade" something that was produced in the early 90's simply because there's a more popular form of presentation out today. When it comes right down to it, despite how awesome it would be, Dragonball Z is simply not a High-Definition show. The best anyone can do is restore the original, without tampering with it (which Toei has done). FUNimation, for some reason, has decided that discarding parts of the picture that used to be there and trading it out for parts that were never actually intended to be seen is a gain. By buying into that you're proving their notion that fans are too stupid to tell the difference.Smooth Criminal wrote:Don't most of you have 16:9 televisions anyways? How would it "adjust" to the source material without stretching it or chopping it off at the top and bottom? The television is 16:9, the image is 4:3...Berserk wrote: no it wont??? widescreen tv's that are adjusted to the way the source material is orginal presented you dont loose any footage at all and the set isnt on any HD format so why would that have to do with anything??

Do you even have a widescreen television? It's simply an issue of a narrower rectangle being contained inside of a wider rectangle. There are black bars on either side to compensate for the difference. (Unless you stretch it, but that distorts the original aspect ratio.)Smooth Criminal wrote:How would it "adjust" to the source material without stretching it or chopping it off at the top and bottom? I disagree. At first I'll admit it was a little distracting, but I got used to it pretty quickly. I think it's a lot better seeing things the way they're actually supposed to look than bloating everyone up 200 pounds while pixelating things in the process.Smooth Criminal wrote:I do have a widescreen television. But who would want to watch something with black bars on either side? Letterbox is tolerable... But that? Come on. I wouldn't even consider that an option since it looks so awkward.

Dude, you realize you don't have to set your television to 'squish' the image, right? What that does is it fits the entire image, but it has to stretch it and everyone looks fat/disproportionate.Acid_Reign wrote:I disagree. There's a third alternative, which is pretty much the standard mode for widescreen tv's... It' just crops out the top and bottom of the frame, and everything else is perfect. It's pretty much the standard viewing mode, which is why I'm saying since most of us have 16:9 tv's already there's no big deal here... If you don't, then yeah, sucks to be you I guess.

I think you're totally misunderstanding what I'm trying to say. Yes, I have a widescreen TV, and the image, whether it's 4:3 or 16:9, isn't squished in any way; it expands automatically if it's supposed to. The "Zoom" feature that you're talking about is hardly the standard viewing mode, and should really only be used if you've got bars on all four sides due to a letterboxed broadcast. Maybe it doesn't bother you when the weatherman is off-screen and you can only see the top-half the channel logo, but to me it does, and on a set that expensive I'd prefer not to waste any more pixels than I have to.Smooth Criminal wrote:Dude, you realize you don't have to set your television to 'squish' the image, right? Well lets see, I have a widescreen tv when the original aspect ratio is 4:3 on a dvd I watching, say for example Ninja Scroll(the movie) then I switch the screen size on my remote to 4:3 so I'm watching the movie the way it was meant to be seen and because its a 4:3 screen presentation theres going to be black bars on the sides vertically, now even if I was to buy this shotty DBZ sets there would still be black bars on the bottom and top horizontally so there really is no excuse to buy these sets no matter what TV you have, now if they were on a HD format disc MADE for HD tvs then you might be able to get the whole picture on the HD tv with out any piture distoration or cropping or anything but even then I still think its impossible senes the original masters are meant for 4:3 and I believe making the only way currently that you can watch the show without cropping or picture distortion is by(if you have a widescreen tv) switching the picture size to 4:3 which you can do by a remote on most WS tv's now-a-daysSmooth Criminal wrote:Dude, you realize you don't have to set your television to 'squish' the image, right? I just want to clear something up because I probably read it wrong.
Did you basically say that there will be black bars on the top and bottom if you watch these DVDs on a widescreen TV?
It is anamorphic.... so... there will be no black bars if you set it 16:9.
I'm not saying I'm for the widescreen deal... but imagine if the DVDs weren't anamorphic.

No it wont....the only way for the picture to completely cover the HD TV screen is if the disc is a Blu Ray or HD DVD other than your getting black bars on the screen with the picture or you have the picture zoomed in which its not supposed to beSmooth Criminal wrote:No.... There wouldn't. This set isn't letterbox format, it's anamorphic 16:9 widescreen. It will fill your screen completely.Berserk wrote: now even if I was to buy this shotty DBZ sets there would still be black bars on the bottom and top horizontally
