You know, I noticed that this forum is always a lot more pissed than other forums I have visited. The majority of people are always screaming at one another about something.
Just because Berserk is wrong doesn't mean you have to put him down.

You're confusing lines of resolution with actual pixel depth. 1080p, 720p, and WS 480p will all fill up the same amount of space, but the first will be the most-defined, and so on down the line.Berserk wrote:No it wont....the only way for the picture to completely cover the HD TV screen is if the disc is a Blu Ray or HD DVD other than your getting black bars on the screen with the picture or you have the picture zoomed in which its not supposed to beSmooth Criminal wrote:No.... There wouldn't. This set isn't letterbox format, it's anamorphic 16:9 widescreen. It will fill your screen completely.Berserk wrote: now even if I was to buy this shotty DBZ sets there would still be black bars on the bottom and top horizontally

If that's the case, then the coloring is still way off...FUNi liedAcid_Reign wrote:I imagine that the fansubs would be of a considerably lower quality seeing as they'd be recorded once from the original broadcast (or whatever the source was) then undergone an amateur subtitling process. The only way to get the subtitles in there is to alter the original video; even digitally you have to recompress so an analog signal would probably degrade quite a bit.Lavender Saiyan wrote:That's not what I heard. From what I've heard they tweaked the color. I've seen a few old shots from some old Fansubs, the colors are far different from the DragonBox.MajinVejitaXV wrote: The DragonBoxes don't have any changes in terms of color or anything else. They simply repaired the damage to the print after the telecine was completed. They are exactly as they were animated and how they appeared on television.

I'm in a very bad mood for reasons I am not gonna post. Long stories. If I'm in a good mood... I'll be polite... except if the conversation relates to Naruto.BrollysKin wrote:You know, I noticed that this forum is always a lot more pissed than other forums I have visited. Anyways... The picture.

(yea it is OP, I would use DBZ as an example if I had it)
No black bars. The image is fine. The DVD player is normal. I also can assure you that Toei is not giving any HD or Blu-Ray DVDs for OP atm. Also, I don't plan on buying HD or Blue-Ray for a few years (see which wins).

Are they out of their fucking minds? This is revolting, quite frankly. I'm assuming there aren't any next episode previews? No individual credits for each episode? A booklet that chronolizes their biggest property ever and it has errors that glaring? Not even twenty bucks could justify this as a purchase...I'm sorry, but this really upsets me greatly.
For years, I've accepted excuse after excuse that this company has given fans in regards to many things, whether it be next episode previews or terrible DVD authoring at the beginning of their releases. But not anymore. They aren't getting a dime of my money, and as silly as this may sound to some, I'm considering ignoring the company as a whole because of this.
What irks me the most is that no other show they've released has had this kind of shabby treatment (Case Closed comes to mind, but even that they eventually got right). It's almost as if there are two divisions at FUNimation: the anime enthusiast-friendly division, and the DBZ division. While the enthusiast division is listened to and their concerns are addressed, the DBZ division seems to just follow their own twisted logic.
Sorry for the long rant, but honestly, I was on the fence about this release and was ready to give them as much rope as possible. Unfortunately, they hung us all with it and now we're stuck with this shitty excuse of a "remastered, ultimate collection." It looks like I'll be turning to the R2s for any episodes I want on DVD from now on.

So, I've spent most of tonight watching episodes, and I'm up to where Gregory shows up, but something seemed odd(er) with the framing then....normal (loathe to use that word, but I digress).
I went to Funi's 'official' example of just how much 'better' widescreen was, and I realised...THEY LIED TO US AGAIN
screencap from Funi's website- http://www.db-destiny.net/funi-widescreen-website.jpg
screencap from the DVD of the same frame- http://www.db-destiny.net/DVD-widescreen.jpg
edit- went into the gimp and downed the resolution of the dvd cap to match http://www.db-destiny.net/DVD-widescreen-resmatched.jpg
Anybody else notice something?... The 'framing' on the website isn't even what is on the goddamn DVD and that is what they have been using to point out 'overscan' and all that crap.

*raises hand*Smooth Criminal wrote:I do have a widescreen television. But who would want to watch something with black bars on either side?
I watch 4:3 material in that way because it's the only acceptable presentation of 4:3 material on a 16:9 TV. As you say, anything else either stretches it out of proportion or removes part of the image. You get used to the bars on either side.
Thanks for the new screen godofchaos.. so FUNimation lied again? What the hell..
Also someone mentioned earlier about how other forums don't see as angry about this as this one. Well I bought it up at the forum I moderate but they are more interested in arguing endlessly about "X is stronger than Y".

Man those are the worst looking style of subtitles I have ever seen, heck even fansubbers can do a better job on subtitle quality then Funimation ever could.godofchaos wrote:Yeah yeah, that one shot might not be as bad as you thought it might be...

Yes, unfortunately anime forums oftentimes degenerate into havens for the "LOL GOKUH VS SUPERMAN WHO WINSZ?!!1" or the "Ohiyo gozimasu! DESU! ^_^" crowds ;pMika wrote:Thanks for the new screen godofchaos.. so FUNimation lied again? What the hell..

Yeah, FUNimation's subtitles are far too small and pixellated, though I generally have no trouble reading them.Gokuden553 wrote:Man those are the worst looking style of subtitles I have ever seen, heck even fansubbers can do a better job on subtitle quality then Funimation ever could.
The advantage fansubbers have is that (unlike on DVDs) there's no limit on resolution or colour palette, so naturally they can make much smoother looking subtitles. On the other hand, I think fansubbers tend to abuse this by going for "elaborate" (stupid colours, subtitles that move around, fonts that are hard to read) rather than "legible" which is the most important thing when you have lots of text to read. Most R1 DVDs use bigger subtitles than FUNimation's, and while they are still slightly pixellated because of the limitations of the DVD format, I think those are pretty ideal and better than most fansubs. YMMV.

We should just keep quoting Chris Psaros' site... because nothing has changed in the past half decade-- when it comes to Dragonball FUNimation is still most concerned with shuffling the product out the door instead of giving people what they truly want.
What amazes is me is I look at my other FUNimation DVD's, and how better handled they are... it BOGGLES my F$*#ING MIND.
And there's really no reasonable explaination for why FUNimation does this... other than some sort of pact with the devil. That might spell it out.

Yeah but the picture is stretched its not meant to fill the screen. switch the screen size 4:3 and your going to get black bars on the side but at least your viewing it in its original resolutionEvilGamerX wrote:I'm in a very bad mood for reasons I am not gonna post.
