Then, Goku wouldn't be the hero of the Buu Arc.

The real question is how come Gotenks and Gohan didn't help in the Chibi Buu fight. If a dead Vegeta fought, why not characters that are way stronger?

Gotenks probably couldn't fuse again. And Goku learned his lesson about relying on Gohan.

They could've fused too, but they purposely wanted to fight him one on one, man to man. I think Goku wanted to have a good fight.

Well, were Buu's victims ever shown in the otherworld in the manga? If so, which form of Buu? At the very least, Chibi Buu could have been Mazoku like Piccolo Daimao, and his victims could have been sent to limbo. (Vegeta kind of blew himself up... and... ur... doesn't count... yeah...).

The reason they would have remained unconscious outside of Buu would be the same reason that Goten and Trunks fell unconscious when they split... that's something pretty tough for the body to recover from, or at least I'd imagine so. <-- tags as speculation for reference.

At first, that's what Goku thinks Vegeta is getting at with the Dragonballs, but then Vegeta decides the Earth should defend itself instead of having those guys come and make it easy.

So that whole super-epic ending was entirely unnecessary.

It fits the theme of Earth finally standing up for itself and passing the torch on, though. Goku wanted it to be Gohan first, then he thought Goten and Trunks, then Vegeta came around to that thinking too at the end.

Well, they technically wouldn't have even split if it hadn't been for the lack of physical laws governing Buu's body. Besides that, Buu hadn't even gotten control of them yet, while he already had with Goten and Trunks when they were still Gotenks.

On another note, maybe it was an initial "absorption knockout" effect that they avoided by putting up that force-field as Vejito. It might be more likely, though, that everybody Buu absorbed got knocked out/taken control of after they got to Buu's brain cavity and got sucked into those pods (the worms mentioned something about Piccolo flying up in that direction, for instance, if I recall correctly). Goku and Vejita just managed to avoid getting trapped in pods of their own.
