Re: What is your favorite DB series ?
People view the first DB show the best in the series because it has the best writing and characters. The show was a great comedy action adventure series with a lot of good fights, memorable characters and always told a good story to it. It didn't take itself way too seriously until Piccolo Daimao show up.

Re: What is your favorite DB series ?
Better characters? Maybe(Tien and Yamcha), but I don't think it has a better story. I think its writing is WAAAY too juvenile for its own good, and it has its share of shit, with the RRA arc being an example. Of course, you can say "well it's part of it's charm", but still, it may throw some folks off with its dumb comedy. Though I understand where these fans are coming from. I feel the same way with some other series like Naruto, I prefer the first half of it and i thought the second half started to go downhill after Pain.
And I may prefer Z's story, but I sure as hell won't call it perfect(I blame that fat pink blob for ruining the flow!).

Re: What is your favorite DB series ?
I think some people prefer DB because that's long before the characters became meaningless. Everyone was still relevant including Yamcha and even though it was still about fighting, it wasn't the only thing it focused on as it had its fair share of humor as others above me stated. Reading all of these posts in my opinion, it seems that the order that we give our listing seems to be influenced by what time period we grew up in, and which series we seen or grew up with first. The first thing I seen was when Piccolo's beam canon shooting through Raditz and Goku. For someone who's only ever seen Ed, Edd, and Eddy or Courage The Cowardly Dog at the time, you can imagine how that scene caught my attention and interest immediately since I've never seen anyone die, or bleed on a cartoon show.

Given the way the OP worded himself, I'm assuming we're only talking about the animated series. In that case, my favorite is GT because it's the only one that can basically only be enjoyed in that format (redundant Anime Comics excluded). For everything else we have a superior manga (or films for Battle of Gods and Resurrection "F").

Why, you surprised me there. I thought you loved Z and the english dub and so on.EXBadguy wrote:1. DBZ Kai
2. DB (though only the second half starting from Tenshinhan)
3. DBGT
4. Original DBZ (the only reason why I put GT above the original Z cuz I think the Funi dub there is better)
Can't comment on Super since I haven't watched it, and honestly, I don't plan to anytime soon unless I hear something big.
Also I go by
1-Dragon Ball
2-Dragon Ball Z
3-Dragon Ball GT
4-Super
5-Kai.

It censors nudity, extreme gore and middle fingers, enough to be considered censored. There is still blood and cursing. It's not much censored compare to the original DBZ.

Its not childish humour, if you watch the real version, you would see that its actually adult perverted humour. And RRA is a great arc, muuuuuuuuuuuuuch better than Cell and Boo. And it has much more that new strong villain appearing which results in a new Saiyan transformation pulled out of their ass and villains defeat.EXBadguy wrote:Better characters? While I do agree that adults can also enjoy the humor in Dragon Ball, it's not adult humor. In Japan that kind of perverted humor is OK for children. It can be deemed juvenile.Kuririn Fan wrote:Its not childish humour, if you watch the real version, you would see that its actually adult perverted humour. DBZ never had extreme gore and I don't remember a single nudity scene in DBZ while DB had a few.Kuririn Fan wrote:It censors nudity, extreme gore and middle fingers, enough to be considered censored. There is still blood and cursing. It's not much censored compare to the original DBZ.

Well, it's not exactly for kids in our society, that's why script for a lot of those scenes is changed in the dub. While I do agree that adults can also enjoy the humor in Dragon Ball, it's not adult humor. In Japan that kind of perverted humor is OK for children. It can be deemed juvenile.

Re: What is your favorite DB series ?
They had bloody moments, but nothing extreme. When I think of extreme gore, I think of Ninja Scroll, Hellsing or Blood C if you want a newer anime example. Dragon Ball never reach that level of extreme violence. PG-13 violence at best in my opinion.

Well I guess either you haven't been around, or I haven't. I still like the old dub and favor it over the original Japanese, but I always say that the voice acting was cheesy, at least during the earlier sagas. Near the end of the Cell saga and the whole Buu saga, that's where they started to improve IMO.Cure Dragon 255 wrote: Why, you surprised me there. I thought you loved Z and the english dub and so on.

Kai. I think the voice actors put out better performances in the original series, and I prefer Kikuchi's score to Yamamoto's (even though I like the latter's a lot), but the lack of filler and the faster pacing make up for it. Super comes in second.

I like them all, but I am more attached to GT. Mostly because of the soundtrack/BGM Ost. I also noticed that most of the people here put Kai as a different entity aside from DBZ. Why?

Maybe because Kai has less filler, more close to the manga, better pacing.successoroffate wrote:I like them all, but I am more attached to GT. Mostly because of the soundtrack/BGM Ost. I also noticed that most of the people here put Kai as a different entity aside from DBZ. Why?

I like the manga, but it goes too fast a lot of the time. Kai is a happy middle between the manga's pacing and the anime's.

They are different entries in the franchise, and while being the same show they have their major differences also. Filler cuts, music, voice acting, dialog and such.successoroffate wrote:I like them all, but I am more attached to GT. Mostly because of the soundtrack/BGM Ost.
